Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier

You see, all of the competitors are actually the President's illegitimate children. This is secretly his way of disposing of them. Rufus was the ultimate victor (despite being an infant) and thus became the "true heir" to the Shinra company. That's why he's so adept at gun combat, and why Mrs. Shinra doesn't seem to exist.
Now I'm imagining President Shinra Sr. going to one of those Eyes Wide Shut sex parties while wearing an Al Bhed mask as his "disguise". His Kavorka man status has to be explained somehow.

Don’t tell me some of you are actually getting hung up over whether or not a BR mobile game fits into the narrative of FF7 lol

Yes it is. Who the heck is it then??

That's why I specified "English version." They called the play troupe leader the "president" in the translation which has led to the common misconception that that was President Shinra.

What???

Regardless of gameplay, both the trailer and the Famitsu interview article establish this as an official part of the timeline (even if it the plot ends up thin as a nano-film). Plus the plan is for The First SOLDIER to be adapted into the Ever Crisis chapters, so it'd be a great plus if FF7:FS can at least maintain a decent narrative.

――『FFVII THE FIRST SOLDIER』の戦いの舞台がミッドガルになっていますが、物語的には『FFVII』の歴史上のどこに位置付けられる作品なのでしょう?

--The battle in "FFVII THE FIRST SOLDIER" takes place in Midgar, but where in the history of "FFVII" does the story take place?

Nomura: This is the earliest time in the history of "FFVII" where there is no SOLDIER, and we are involved in the establishment of the SOLDIER as a Soldier Candidate. The narrative is not very intense due to the nature of the game, but the backbone and setting are there.

The gameplay will be divided into chapters to make it easier to play, and will cover the entire "FFVII" series, including the original, previous compilations, and the newly announced "FFVII FS". In other words, the aforementioned story based on the setting of "FFVII FS" can be enjoyed as a new work here. Since the story takes place before the establishment of Soldier, it will naturally include the young days of the legendary hero. The story is the main feature of the game, and the scenario has been written by Nojima-san, so please look forward to it.

In the English version of the OG script, the guys in the roleplay room say:

First Speaker
Psst...... (Hey, shouldn't we stop him soon?)

Second Speaker
...whisper... whisper... (We have a luncheon with President Shinra...)

and

First Speaker
Psst...... (It's like this every time we have a business trip to Midgar.)

......One with Blue Eyes...

First Speaker
(We come all the way to Midgar, just for this...)

and

Psst...... (I know, I know... but it's all part of the job.)
Psst...... (Oh yeah, did you hear? The President's wife found out about this little hobby of his.)

So I'm a bit surprised anyone ever thought it was President Shinra. He wouldn't have a luncheon appointment with himself, he wouldn't need to make a business trip to Midgar, since he lives there, and his wife is dead.

The first time through you might not realize things like the president's wife being dead, and "Luncheon with President Shinra" might be taken as "these guys are the president's entourage to his luncheon." The fact they also refer to the guy they're with as "the president" doesn't help. The biggest head scratcher is them "visiting Midgar" which doesn't make sense. The translation just had to leave out where they came from, to make it more confusing.

Hmmmmmmmmm, so that's how you'll fool them.

I always forget about this error, but it might be the strangest one. I'm surprised we've never tried to arrange an interview with the OG translator or anything.

When I was younger I was convinced that I was missing some clever joke with that exchange. In fact, I'm pretty sure I made a thread asking about it...

Yep, here it is. Damn, right at the beginning of TLS. :monster:

Should the Shinra Builing even have a 70th floor at this point?
While Midgar does look way too complete, I honestly think the President isn't all that high up.

Notice how even when zoomed back, the reactor body easily shows up on the horizon. Clearly this floor isn't higher up than the actual reactors.

Meanwhile, if we roam floors 59 and above in FFVIIR we are decidedly above the maximum height of the reactors.

If The First SOLDIER becomes another FFVII title that spans several years in the timeline, it's still possible that the FMV of President Shinra takes place at a time when it makes more sense for Midgar to have been built up to this degree. Though most likely the standard of old FFVII canon will be followed and the people in this world are just really, REALLY great at building cities fast.

Hold up... didn't Reeve design the mako reactors? He'd be five years old in FS. Then again, mako had been around even before that so maybe I'm misunderstanding something about who designed the reactors.
