IMO, news like these are not for fans. They are for investors. Stock exchange. Sending a public message, "We have projects coming up, we are not going bankrupt, you don't have to worry about your investments."

Makes sense :O

Add "Look how pissed the people who would actually pay for this if we would get our thumbs out of our asses get when we do this," and I think you might be on to something.

The investors/ potential investors/ businessthingys don't read Twitter, or Tumblr, or hang out in forums. They look at sales numbers. As long as people buy the stuff once it's out there, that's all that matters.

THAT will more justify the price I assume they're going to charge.

It also might sway me to pick it up. Having just played X I hadn't been planning on it.

Seriously cannot wait for this I have heard rumors that it could be out in June. I hope so but you know Squeenix is all about the false hope :monster:

^Squeenix's life essence comes from the dashed hopes of its fan base.

Aw, I know I come down hard on them a lot, but it is mostly in jest.

Mostly.

Well, that was a given really. I wouldn't want to play a lesser version of X than what was released here in the UK. It's not like they'd re-release the Dark Aeon stuff here and not bother releasing it in America.

BUT does this mean they're releasing the extra X-2 stuff that was released with the re-release in Japan? That weird tower thing with all the extra story content? Because that would be fucking win.

Considering it explains the whole Tidus thing, I'd love to finally be able to play it :monster:

What was the difference between the regular edition of FFX and the international version?

*Runs off to Wikipedia*

The International Version was released on January 31, 2002, in Japan, and later in Europe (the European release was simply titled "Final Fantasy X"). This updated version of the game has different box art for Japan, and new features, such as an Expert Sphere Grid, which allows for accessing abilities more easily, but less overall stat-growth. New abilities were added to both Standard and Expert Grids.

The Dark Aeons and Penance, all powerful superbosses, were added, as well as many minor changes to dialogue, scenes, the Celestial Weapons' key items (Japan only), characters and armor & weapon customizations, such as Ribbon. The release also includes a bonus disc with behind the scenes making-of features of Final Fantasy X, and a special movie prologue to Final Fantasy X-2.

The European release has the the Dark Aeons and Penance, as well as the new equipment abilities, but didn't change the name of the Celestial Sigils and Crests. As with previous PAL conversions of Final Fantasy installments, the game has noticeable black borders and a slower running-speed as a result of poor PAL conversion. The black label version includes a bonus DVD with the title Beyond Final Fantasy, which includes various interviews with the game developers, as well as two of the English voice actors.
So the European version had all the content but was poorly optimized?

I only defeated a few of the easy Dark Aeons, anyone ever take on Penance?

It was as optimised as any other game that came from the US or Japan. i.e. runs at 5/6th the speed and in the case of X, added black borders to the top and bottom because PAL had more lines than NTSC (which is why it had a slower refresh rate, though it was capable of a slightly higher quality). The same is true for VII, VIII and IX.

XII added options for Widescreen and 60Hz refresh rate. I might be making the 60Hz refresh rate thing up, I don't remember all that well. It's been a really long time since I played XII, something I plan to rectify this summer :monster:
