I don't mind the dialogue being used that way; it's pretty much standard for all types of trailers nowadays to have voice dialogue to mislead viewers about the plot. The two trailers for the 6th season of GoT come to mind.
I should probably mention I've disliked that style of trailers (you know, the simplifying or simply changing the plot, revealing almost every important plot twist in the trailer, that horrible narrator voice) since they became a thing in the 80's and 90's. I especially disliked them when they're applied to something that isn't NA in origin - take some of the original trailers for VII. Cringeworthy.
They're making these trailers for a new audience as well, not just us old fans. I understand the desire to keep them guessing and/or mislead them about the plot.
Which is what I meant by
but at least this trailer is cut in a way that makes sense to a new audience
As in, I'm not expecting them to be able to express the duality in Gran Kilita's words in a 3 minute trailer. I understand and see why they built up this trailer the way they did, in the light of what a trailer for a game is meant to do (peak interest and make people invest their cash.)
meant something to personally
Yep, key point. Because to me, seeing the wonderful subtle grey area dialogue in the game being used in a way that makes them paint black and white sounding, making the game sound like a good vs evil story when it's not at all, makes me go all STOP DOING THIS TO MY BABY JUST TO MAKE MONEY
I mean why sell something as something it's not? XII was always about a complex grey area driven story that could easily be told from either side, it was never a 'Ashe saves the world' story (although one could easily argue a lot of players saw it that way). Anyway trying to portray a game as something it's really not could argue they're setting new players up for disappointment (again?)
Anyway all this is waaaay too deep for discussing a simple trailer. I meant to say, besides a bit of nitpicking, that I approve of this trailer.
