I suppose FFXIII had better graphics :monster:.
On the technical side, yes XIII is better graphics-wise. But between a wonderfully lifeless corridor, or a less good looking expansive world, with towns and ... gasp!... NPCs to talk to, I'd take the second any time.

>implying XIII's battle system wasn't a vast improvement from XII's

:awesome:

It wasn't.

It's just different. Whether or not you deem it as a vast improvement is purely opinion.

OH WOW, I just noticed this was posted a while ago

XII was better than XIII in every way imaginable. Every way imaginable!

Sorry!...but I really can't see this statement true in my way of vision. I kind of liked the system FFXII had, still is not been my favorite. Also, yeah it had Balthier :awesome:, such a good leading man. But I don't know. I liked the story of Gabranth and Basch (Forgot his name for a while there), I think it was quite interesting the betrayal and stuff (Still there was something I didn't quite understood...can't remember what). If it wasn't for Balthier and Ashe...well this game wouldn't have been really good for me. I just found it I don't know...senseless in some ways.

But then again that's just me and yeah...my mind is kind of fuzzy with this thing.

That's pretty much how I feel about the entirety of both games. At times, Final Fantasy XII was a huge free-for-all of running every which way with no clear direction, while Final Fantasy XIII's plot and gameplay was (yawnithasbeensaidsomanytimesbutthere'sactuallyapointthistime) linear.

Along the same line, everything in XII was customizable, including whether or not your characters could wear hats, but no matter how you messed with XIII's upgrades, you basically arrived at the same place (except for maybe in post game).

Final Fantasy XII's story was really a plot-based political drama, while Final Fantasy XIII focused more on the relationships between characters and internal development. Both these games didn't really hit the mark for me in this area, but saying one is better than the other, story-wise, doesn't make sense when they had extremely different goals.

In this way, it almost seems like Final Fantasy XIII may have been a response to some of the criticisms one could potentially make against XII. An over-reacting response. If you like one better than the other, it's likely down to the style of the game.

This post is almost irrelevant. I don't have anything to add to this thread besides XIII doesn't belong at all.

Okay so when I posted in the "The good and bad of Final Fantasy XII" I was actually looking for a thread like this but didn't find it. Perhaps no wonder when the title is "FF12" and I tried "Final Fantasy 12", "XII", "FFXII" and "Final Fantasy XII". Fail.

I enjoyed reading it but sadly a lot of the posters don't frequent this board anymore so I don't feel like quoting and stuff. But I'm gonna post here to add it to my "threads of interest" list.

An FFXII thread eh? Alright I'm game. :D

Right now, you can play any mainline Final Fantasy game on a modern system—PS3, Vita, iOS, etc.—except for two: Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII. Both PlayStation 2 entries have never made it to other platforms, and anyone who's tried to play PS2 games on a high-definition television might understand why people are begging for remakes.

Later this year, two will narrow down to one: Square Enix is giving FFX a new coat of paint on PS3 and Vita. That leaves Final Fantasy XII as the odd moogle out—the only game you can't play today without digging out an old console. But! Square Enix is cognizant of that, and if the FFX remakes live up to expectations, FFXII could come next.

"If they do well, I think this will pave the way for more of the previous games to remade in an HD sort of quality," Final Fantasy leading man Yoshinori Kitase told the folks at RPGSite.

"I mean, if we had to single out one of the vast number of Final Fantasy titles which we could make in HD, it would have to be Final Fantasy XII," he said. "I was not involved in the project, though, so we can't really comment on that."
If FFX does well we might get a HD FFXII. :monster:

Also I found these plushies from the old AC Forums in my old photobucket account... Feel free to use them. ;)

As I said in the other thread, I would love to see how much the Zodiac Job System (which is the version they would presumably use in said rerelease) improves the license board.

Does the ZJS make it so you can see the tiles before unlocking adjacent ones? I'd love that as keeping the LB hidden was easily the dumbest design decision in that game. (Which is simply remedied by printing off the .pdf of the thing, but still.)

It was always kind of a strange character render. She's pigeon-toed in it as well, of course. It just never seemed to match her character.

This review is a nice little jerkoff for those of us who love this game :joy:

Love his comment at 1:06, I feel the same way

I have to revive this thread. I need FFXII to be playable on my PS3. I played it on my old PS3 several years ago without any problems; it was the 60 gig console that I bought when first released. Our old PS3 YLOD'd and we got a new one off of Craigslist that is not compatible with PS2 games. My SO transferred all of the save data to the new console, so I can see my 9753945 hour save files, but the stupid console won't read the disc!

I took my PS2 out so I can get started on a new game, but...I was sooo many hours into my last game...:(

I don't want to start and then have the game released again with the Zodiac system. I guess I'll wait...

It'll take time for the HD Remaster to be done (whenif they decide to do it etc). I'll probably have eight more playthroughs on file before that time comes :P

^i did the same thing with FFX

Now its 2 and a half years later and I still haven't replayed it since then. "Its coming soon" i would tell myself. "Its only a re-release, it won't take long".

Don't make the same mistake I did. Pick up and play the damn game guys.
