Like Lex said, there's pretty much never not going to be a Day 1 Patch anymore. What Tabata said can still be true, though, in that the extra time allowed them to get more onto the final disc before it went gold -- i.e. before the retail-ready game was established.

Once an edition of the game has gone gold, the development team isn't going to send it back to be rated again if they add additional content. They're just going to include that additional content in the Day 1 (or later) Patch, so as not to delay release further.

What probably happened here is that the release was pushed back a bit so that the most could be gotten onto the disc before a particular deadline to submit the game. Anything they intended to add after that would be relegated to patches.

I don't know if I'm reading this all wrong, but the delay was to ensure that all bug fixes and optimizations were on the final disc that goes gold because of the vast difference in people's internet connections.

According to Tabata, one of the big reasons for this delay, however, is that not everyone who is going to play FFXV has their console connected to the internet. They may have a console, they may have the internet, but the two are apparently not connected. (Data Tabata sourced said that number is over twenty percent of Japanese gamers!) Thus, there actually might be players who do not download a day-one patch. The delay is to get the game in good shape for all players at release.

This wasn't about additional content. This was about there not being a mandatory day one patch for all. Which hasn't happened. The delay was specifically to ensure that doesn't happen.

Okay I mentioned this on Flint's FF Marathon thread, and forgive my relative absence from this thread in general but I was wondering since it is finally happening if you all wanted to maybe have a TLS Night where we as a group watch Kingsglaive, Brotherhood and play Premium Demo?

Or smth like that is whatevs. :monster:

By "additional content" I simply meant "content that was otherwise not on the disc at the time the game went gold." And in this case, that could also mean "content that was otherwise not going to be on the disc at the time the delay was announced."

And to be even more clear, by "content" I just mean "stuff that's there in the code on the disc" -- not necessarily additional gameplay features.

And I'm sure that Tabata and co. wanted to get everything on the disc, but that's simply not the way of the industry. Instead, they would have done their best to "get the game in good shape for all players at release."

At a certain point, though, they were going to hit the deadline for submission to get the game approved, and beyond that point, any remaining additional content (going with what I meant by this above) would not go on the disc, but would go in the patch instead.

This is what is quite annoying though. I know this. You know this. But for some reason, Tabata thought he could do differently ... and in just a few weeks?

At the end of the day, we were forced through another delay. Yes, we might now have a more stable game on the actual disc, but this is still backed up by a massive patch. The question is, was (yet) another delay worth it?

The final reviews on the bug fixes, frame rates and stability is going to be a very interesting read.

The reason of the delay was to make the disc version of XV stable and in acceptable conditions so that downloading a patch wouldn't be necesary to reach said condition.

Well here's a post that seems to indicate the delay was of benefit:

I the biggest thing for me is, the guy was playing without any patches - right off the disc, and the difference between that vs. the gamescom master footage is...

Well, it's kind of insane, really.

Insane in a good way. That additional work in the two month delay probably involved black magic of some kind.

(That's a post from NeoGAF talking about a stream of the game from last night)

To be honest, I respect the decision to get the game as polished as possible. I hate the trend of "fix it in post" and even day 1 patches.

...that being said, I bet my ass there's still totally gonna be a day one patch :wackymonster:

Just wanna quote myself from August :P

The intent wasn't so there wouldn't be a day one patch at all, they just wanted the initial Sep. 30 Day 1 patch to be part of the game proper because apparently the unpatched Master version was actually still rough.

As has been said, work these days is never done after the game goes gold. There'll be a day 1 patch. There are also gonna be patches weeks after.

At the very least previews indicate that there has been quite an improvement since the Gamescom master version so I reckon the current release version will still feel polished without the current day 1 patch whereas that wouldn't have been the case for the Sep 30 release.

Also, interesting observation I made while watching the Judgement trailer again.

Luna's trident is one of the weapons that forms around Noctis's ring at the end.

Sorry for the crappy image quality.

Also guys, I'd start staying away from the trailers now, as tempting as it may be to watch them repeatedly to keep hype levels steady. I think I came across a plot spoiler. >_>

I appreciate the dude on the beach's dedication, standing throughout the night and starting the day with a few squats.

I totally have to nitpick that .gif, since I grew up on the beach.

Apparently on Eos, the concepts of high and low tides are not a thing. :monster:

Lulcielid, I think your link is a little busted. Is it that legacy video they just released? I just got the email.

Anyone know if they've released a track listing for the game's OST yet?

Maybe their moon is made of polystyrene.

You can't expect everything to be 'real' it is a FANTASY after all. :awesome:

Also I think Tides would effect distance model rendering calculation.

In fact I can't really think of any videogame that actually simulated Tides properly, especially regarding Moon placement.
