I think that my current goal is to finish up my Bestiary before Comrades some out. :awesomonster:

Also, has anyone done enough of the Timed Hunts to get the Afrojack sword, or any of the other singularly available reward items? I totally forgot about that, and feel like I might wanna dive back into some of the timed hunts again.

Yeah, I very much doubt that you'll be seeing a GotY-with-all-the-stuff version of XV for a significant period of time, still. Especially with the PC release being the standard game, anything like this is still a ways off.

The new FFXV September update is LIVE!!!! Update is 4.3GB and a new event has been added to Chapter 12 that details the War of the Astrals.

EDIT:

Also, 2 additional fish and the Moogle Chocobo Carnival has been removed. If you haven't gotten the dream egg from it to get the Master Assassin outfit down download the patch!

Streamed the update for Tres. Went slowly and some pauses, so that I could have my lady figure out how to mute my chat, so it wouldn't be popping up notifications during the important bits. The new stuff is at 45:00.

A lot of this is based on player feedback though, and it's hard to know exactly what of everything to include, especially when the game has been in varying stages of development for a decade.

I'd much rather that it exists as a living title that gets updates that the fans are interested in, and a little extra than getting kicked around trying g to be perfected for too long without external feedback, but that's also probably because I work in QA so I enjoy incremental iterative development cycles.

It does make me wonder how long I should wait before replaying it though. Because it makes the most sense to just do it once everything is finally in there. But will that ever be the case?

Yeah. What he said. :monster:

Thirded. :monster:

Also, big time thank you for uploading that, X. That definitely improves not only that scene, but the whole game.

As far as implications for the lore goes,
this does confirm several things for us:

- Shiva and Ifrit were lovers (previously mentioned in Shiva's bestiary entry in German, but not in English or in Japanese)

- Ifrit did, indeed, gift humans with fire (there has been a bit of debate about this, as Ifrit's English bestiary entry said literally that he "bestowed the gift of fire upon man," but the Japanese version said he bestowed them with "the flame of wisdom" and the German version said he "fanned the flames of their knowledge")

- Seemingly tells us that Solheim was destroyed in the gods' crossfire rather than because of the Starscourge, so it's still unclear whether the parasite had arrived on Eos by this point

- Ardyn turned Ifrit into a daemon -- rather than "the Pyreburner is sought by a man who draws him away from the Light," the Japanese script literally says "someone turned Ifrit into a daemon": イフリートは何者かによりシガイにされてしまった. This was also apparently in the recent past rather than ancient times (approximately 11 years ago), so his actions during the war of the gods were his own

Worth mentioning:

- The English script here reiterates what Ifrit's German bestiary entry said about the people of Solheim rebelling against all the gods rather than just Ifrit (neither the Japanese nor English entries said this; the Japanese version, in fact, didn't even mention rebellion at all). However, the Japanese version of this newest material makes it sound as though they rejected just Ifrit, saying だが 人の文明 ソルハイムは高みに達し驕った人は 神を排斥しようとした ("However, the people of the Solheim civilization reached great heights, and the haughty humans tried to cast out the god"), using "kami"/神 (singular) rather than "kamigami"/神々 (plural), even though the script doesn't hesitate to use the plural form on several other occasions

- Shiva saying "the mortals created in [the gods'] image" isn't in the Japanese script

- That "High Messenger" title isn't mentioned; Gentiana/Shiva just refers to herself with "watashi" (i.e. "I")

- This new stuff sadly still doesn't blatantly answer (or even allude to) where the Starscourge came from, nor does it recount the Meteor's arrival

-This still leaves open the question of to what extent Gentiana and Shiva are separate beings. They certainly were at one time, as Gentiana began living with the Fleuret family while Shiva was still sleeping in the Ghorovas Rift. However, Gentiana's voice comes out of Shiva here (in the English and Japanese versions) -- and in Japanese, she's referring to herself as "watashi"/"I" while referring to things both Gentiana and Shiva did

- In Japanese, Shiva's past contempt for humanity comes across way more strongly:

かつて私は——数多の生命の中で『人』は星に心要無きものと考えていた
儚く 脆く それ故可能性や希望といった曖昧なものを信じる人が星にとって有要だとは思えなかった

"Once upon a time, I thought ... the many 'human' lives were unnecessary for the planet.

They are fleeting. They are fragile. Therefore, I couldn't believe that the humans who believed in such ambiguous things as possibility and hope were necessary for the planet."

I'll look at this some more later and see what else I can dig out of it. :monster:

It really does do a LOT for the game.

Seemingly tells us that Solheim was destroyed in the gods' crossfire rather than because of the Starscourge, so it's still unclear whether the parasite had arrived on Eos by this point.

The way this is phrased is really interesting, since it seems like the Starscourge may have occurred DURING the conflict in some way.

It is not long, however, before some among those men ascend to new heights of hubris. The people of Solheim spurn the gods who blessed them – the gods they once worshipped.

The ungrateful mortals incur the wrath of the Pyreburner. He seeks to raze the very civilization his flames once helped build.

But the Six are sworn to defend this star and all her inhabitants from harm – and, at times, from one another.

The flames of war surge as Solheim fends off the Pyreburner’s fire. The gods’ please for peace fall on deaf ears, and the battle rages on.

When the smoke clears, the world of man is in ruins, their star left scarred for time eternal. Wearied from war, the Six seek solace in slumber.

It makes me wonder if Ifrit was responsible for it, or it was also just a cooincidental occurrence. It definitely seems to imply that it was Ifrit's doing (what with Titan stuck holding it up, and we know that the shards are incredible heat sources used in Lestallum).

Super happy about this update, and I can't wait to see if the little Rayvus stuff ties into Ignis in some way.

Looks like the end of next year is the correct time to do the NG+ at this point tbh

i remember the many jokes about people being geriatric when they finally get to play versus xii because it was taking so long, and now it looks like that will actually be the case for playing the complete version of ffxv (if you can call it truly 'complete' because of time-limited events)

i just want to buy the game without having to keep buying more bits and pieces to it every few months to get the full experience. i thought maybe releasing the windows version with previous dlc would mean that time had finally arrived, but hashimoto laughs in my face once more

As a counterpoint, I've actually appreciated XV dragging me back into it every so often, and motivating me to just enjoy the little miscellaneous things in the game again because I really do enjoy the time that I spend playing it.

Aside from Overwatch (which I play a lot mainly because I'm playing with other people), I don't spend a lot of times going back into older games very often, so things like this give me reasons and make me actually like it more than just the once-and-done approach, because it gives a bit of a relationship between the audience and the game. Do the additions to the story make it annoying to feel like you need to replay the game for the REAL TRUE 100% FRD experience? Probably. I also REALLY liked the original Chapter 13, unlike apparently 95% of everyone else, so I'm glad I got to play it prior to the changes that got though.

Is this all greatly affected because I really liked the game, and WANT a reason to keep playing it?

Yes. Undoubtedly and absolutely. :awesomonster:

I'm happy to see this thread so active. :monster:

Same! :monster:

OH! – Something interesting to note: When you Jump directly into Chapter 15, a lot of the time the Chocobros get frontloaded with a bunch of inter-character dialogue, so that's another fun reason that the sort of soft-New-Game-Plus of Chapter skipping is a bunch of fun. They're all really chatty, they point out little things everywhere, I wandered into an item shop and looked at all the descriptions just to make them chat about whatever again, and it was just excellent.

I think that the relationship between the 4 main characters and the way that it's delivered in the incidental dialogue in the game is one of my absolute favourite things in the game, and it was pulled off utterly spectacularly (aside from the occasional interrupting shout about Imperials overhead). :P

So Shiva kissing Ifrit actually has meaning beyond "half-naked sexy woman doing sexy seductive things just because".

Cool :monster:

Wonder how the German localization had that info though when it wasn't even in the Japanese?

Evidently this update also fixed some glitches in the Assassin's festival, including the invisible wall, Holly's interaction, and other bugs.

Thought you guys might like a more direct translation of the new exposition recounting the Astral War:

We Six Gods exist to protect the planet—
Each of us working to fulfill that mission in our own way.
Once upon a time, I thought ... the many "human" lives were unnecessary for the planet.
They are fleeting. They are fragile. Therefore, I couldn't believe that the humans who believed in such ambiguous things as possibility and hope were necessary for the planet.
Ifrit was different from me.
Believing in the potential of humans, he chose to gift them with fire and prosper with them.
This drew me to him, and we came to love one another.
And I ... decided to believe in the humans as he believed in them.
However, the people of the Solheim civilization reached great heights, and the haughty humans tried to cast out their god.
This action by the humans, who had forgotten his blessings, incited Ifrit's wrath, and he tried to raze the world along with the humans.
I had to fight him.
To protect the planet and the "humans" he had believed in.
The battle between god and man was extremely violent, the efforts of the Six Gods to mediate were fruitless, and the scale of the conflict grew.
This battle that came to be called the Astral War destroyed Solheim, injured the planet, and left the utterly exhausted gods to sleep for an eternity.
This story of the planet is entrusted to the Chosen King.
And ... so is my story.
---

During the gods' eternal sleep after the Astral War—
Ifrit was turned into a daemon by someone.
I awoke from my sleep and tried to free him, but I was destroyed by the empire and lost power.
Now that the empire and daemons are together, the Six Gods and the world are about to be swallowed in darkness.
No longer can we save Ifrit and save the planet.
He can at least be at peace in death ...
---

I think I like this a lot better. This may be a case where the detached, non-personable speech mannerisms of the divine characters in the English script kind of takes away some of the impact and our ability to feel for them.

Like the FFVII translation stuff Kotaku's been putting out lately, there're a lot of nuances from alternate translations that change tons and reveal little nuances that others miss. It reminds me why when Naruto was still weekly, I used to read 3 different translations to see how they handled the dialogue in any given chapter, because there were ALWAYS 1-2 lines where I preferred one of the others.

Thanks a ton for those, Tres. It definitely feels different to the way that information is conveyed in the English. I also haven't really thought about how well this will also tie into the room before meeting Ardyn with all of the paintings, and make it feel like you understand the meaning behind them being in the Royal lobby, rather than them being mysterious mythology that's still obscure.
