So like I made an account on TeePublic.

idk how any of this really works yet, so. Advice pls?! Anyone else have an account there? Any tips in general for tee-shirt designs? Would anyone be interested in wearing my artsy shit on a shirt? :wacky:

o.o I want a Tee shirt with the design I commissioned you for! <3 It'd be so meta to wear myself!

But no, I have no idea how that stuff works. But I'd totally buy a few of your works regardless!

I have a redbubble account but I haven't done anything with it yet. It seems you've got to promote the shit out of your stuff on twitter or wherever. Cos there are so many people doing it it's really easy to sink to the bottom and not get noticed.

Oh and make sure you tag everything, tag the shit out of it.

The important thing is also to make designs that will appeal to people; try and think of some stuff that you think may look good on a shirt, or something that you think people will want, instead of just doing some speedpaints and chucking them up there and hoping for the best.

I'm not the best at promoting things. :closedmonster: But I could use Twitter to my advantage possibly...? tbh I've had more random people like my stuff on Twitter than I've ever had on Facebook. And Deviant Art gives me faves but, that's it. No one ever actually commissions me from there. :monster:

I know of Redbubble too; I guess I should look into which site is more popular. I have no clue about tee shirt sites. Maybe ope does a better job or something, idk. Tee Public seems really... simple?

Yeah see, I've never made shirt designs so :monster: I'm really hoping for help on what to design and what I can possibly edit/modify that I've already created, so that I can put it on a shirt. :wacky: Seriously, if someone helps me out here and it works, I'll give them a kiss :awesome: that's actually worthless, but maybe someone will fall for it...

So I'm looking for advice. Might ask in Chit Chat thread too so others can see it or something.
Is there any advice you can give me on drawing up a design for a shirt?

Is there anything I've already drawn and shown on TLS that anyone thinks is shirt-worthy or has potential to be?

And is anyone here even interested besides Chip? :wacky: Might as well ask you guys for honest answers.

I think your FF logo designs would be popular. Those glowy glowy brushes you use are awesome.

I'm not the best with this kind of advice, but I'm sure there's a way to draw up designs so that there's no background behind it--like it won't be a black square with a design on it on a light-colored shirt.

Instagram? Pinterest?

It's all so time-consuming. There's a reason social media marketing is a full-blown career and full-time job these days.

Good luck Flare!

These days, with a global market of like... 7 billion people... you could probably sell any kind of design, not matter how loopy and ugly some may see it, given the broad variety of tastes. It is just a matter of finding the people willing to buy it.

Finding and interacting with said market is important. Just look at Youtube stars and such. They use tactics to try and develop what feels like a personal relationship with their viewers (eg: "please share your thoughts in the comments below!" and in a later episode they'll reference some comments, etc. This would just happen by chance, a lot of them would have researched marketing, etc). Interactions between those that comment then lead to a sense of community within your potential clientele, which work in your favour. These are all evil corporate tricks :awesome:.

Outside final fantasy forums, or elsewhere (because you probably ain't going to earn a living off just us folks :P), your best bet is probably trying your luck at selling stuff at appropriate conventions, where your market is most probably going to be located in concentration (eg: not gardening conventions :P). If there are any large "sunday market" places where you live, you could attempt to try setting up a stall there.

There's also the whole using of social media sites like instagram or whatever (I dunno how good etsy and such is, etc, do your research :P). Be sure to tag your images appropriately, if you don't do so already (eg: #finalfantasy, #ffvii, etc). People looking at those tags would then find you and might then check out the rest of your stuff, and subscribe to you. You can then post ads seeking interest in your shirt idea with your captured audience.

I dunno about professional visual artists, but professional musicians don't play music at just any random place. These days you can get analytics and shit which tells you where your music is being bought the most. Sometimes it ain't even capital cities, but obscure country towns :awesome:, and that is where the musicians will tour. I'm not sure how visual artists could use such a system (I'm sure there are sites where you can track purchases), but that's probably more down the track for you anyways.

Uh... I got a bit carried away there. Hope some of that helped out. I'm not interested in T-shirt designs, but am all for secret society badges :awesome:. We need a secret handshake.

What about selling your art to one of those limited-supply T-shirt shops like Quer-tee? Thats where I got my Cloud shirt. They've gotta be getting the art from somewhere. You may not get as much, since there's a middle man (But then, every process has one) but it might free you from a lot of the marketing and licensing hassle.

Yeah, but TeePublic still gives most of the profit to the artist while taking care of printing and shipping. And the art is still listed under the artist.

I think Flare's best bet would be research designs for the fandoms she likes and figure out what she can do make it better.

T-shirt brainstorming is a bit on hold while I do other life stuff like look for a job. :monster: I'm planning on entering that KupoCon shirt design contest though, hopefully I remember :closedmonster:

Anyhow have some RiME fanart. It's some kind of puzzle game or something but I just love the art style of the game, so, speedpaint of the cover art <3

Aww thankee Fancy, you are a darling <3 :awesome: I think my speedpaints have a ways to go before it's what I want them to be, but I'm getting there. Just have to keep doing them; better than I was a year ago! :D

You know that moment when a character you like has hardly any fanart, so you decide to help amend that... and make it NSFW fanart? Yeah me neither, until I did it a couple weeks ago. :monster:

So, Leysritt Einzbern from the Fate/Stay series, though this design of her is from the Fate/Kaleid Liner 10-year-old les porn Prisma Illya (WHY ARE THE TITLES SO LONG) anime. She's such a great side character in it. <3

I don't draw this stuff very often but, it was fun :awesome: I really just wanted to see if I could draw something sexy. And she really does need more fanart.

So I did a thing last night after momentarily misreading a sentence on the Cerberus Discord. One of the peeps there said galaxy chocolate, I at first read it as 'galaxy chocobo'. And then though, "Well hey that sounds like it'd be a cool chocobo.... :awesome:" And then THIS WAS BORN :monster:

ffxiv_galaxy_chocobo_by_bahamutdeusmodus-dbnngcz.jpg

CHOCOBO....IN....SPACE! with nebula and star colors and patterns :awesome:

I think imma tidy up the lineart a bit and maybe...idk....advertise chocobo sketches using that lineart as a base and just change the colors for potentially quick and cheap commissions :closedmonster:

So for those of you not on my Facebook liiiiiist...... I DID A THING earlier this year and it relates to TLS because one of my lovely friends here commissioned me for a very special thing. :joy:

Took me forever to post it on FB and even longer to post it here. :wacky: But I hope you guys like it. ^_^

The pictures don't really have the best of background, for a couple reasons; I really worked on this thing right up until the deadline basically and had to ship it to her in time for her wedding. So I think I finished everything and it was the evening and so the lighting outside wasn't the best, and I was gonna ship it the next day. ;-;
And then it was also kinda wet outside and sprinkling at times. :wacky: Hence the paper towel under everything ;__; And me having to take pictures in the archway in front of the door...

So the background isn't the best but I hope the actual cake topper has all the details being shown. <3 And I'm really happy and grateful to Channy for commissioning this from me, it was a huge project and lots of new stuff for me but it turned out in the end and she took a chance with me so ;_______; <3 I love you Channyyyyyy <3 Thank you love!

Ah! And a little bit about the design!
The bride is Channy of course, with a representation of her actual wedding dress, with her holding a yellow lily to represent Aerith, and the nerdy touch of the Pikachu ears and tail :awesome: Groom is Mr. Channy with a Totoro suit on, + a bow tie and top hat. XD
They were both made with a wooden figure base.

The cat holding the 'Just Married' sign is her older cat, Ren <3 All made out of clay, including the little sign!

The Las Vegas sign was made mostly out of wood; she requested this because their wedding was down in Vegas! The only clay bits were the red star and the flat circles that made up the 'welcome' bit.

The base was made out of clay and aluminum foil for the bulking out; this thing took some practice :wacky: I sanded a fair bit of it after baking to make all the pieces fit into it. Worked out great! :reptar:

Lots of time and love went into this ^_^

Oh hey I just realized something else I could post :D I did two designs for a KupoCon t-shirt contest earlier this year (was it in summer? I forget now!)
Neither were picked, not really a surprise to me tbh, I've never had luck with art contests of any sort, but I still liked my designs and I feel safe to post them here now since the contest is long over! :reptar: I've even considered using them, modified a bit, as my own fanart shirt design :wacky:

Anyways HERE \o/

KupoCon_t-shirt_design_1_png_transparent.png

So I have some nitpicks with this one, I wasn't a fan of the words but it was also a bit of a rush at the end. :wacky:
But I did like the cosplaying moogles; my idea behind it was to make it fit KupoCon, thus the moogle family, since the event welcomes families and anyone of any age. :D And I wanted them cosplaying job classes instead of characters, so that 'anyone' could wear them (not everyone likes a specific character, as we all know :awesome:). And in my further attempt at making it fit anyone, I used what I considered the 3 main job classes. Warrior, Black Mage, and White Mage. Which could conveniently be the Tank, DPS, and Healer, if you play XIV.

So that was my thought process behind this design :reptar:

KupoCon_t-shirt_design_2_png_transparent.png

This one is my favorite of the two overall, because I felt that it just 'fit' so much better as a shirt design. :D
Obviously got moogles spelling out KupoCon! And there's a bunch of moogles to represent all the people that attend the event! Not as much 'thinking' was put into this one but I think it still works better compared to the first one.

Edit: right click 'view image' on this second one to get the details of the moogle expressions :D

Anywhoooo, that's all :reptar:

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh ;-; everytime you keep bringing this up to show it off it still brings all the warm fuzzies of our chats hashing it out.

Flare was an amazing person to deal with. I came to her with an idea I saw, and right away she knew she could do it. No doubt whatsoever and on the ball, asking what I felt about things, making suggestions, proposing changes, taking demands {why would our cat be there in Vegas with us?? :monster: )

I wanted something that we could take away from our wedding and hold onto forever - couple always save their wedding toppers but they're not usually so personal. And to have one of my bff's make it herself. I feel and see the love in it every day when I pass by it on my shelf. <3 <3 <3
