Margaery isn't a virgin in the show. Loras told Renly as much. It'd be difficult to get away with that, since Natalie Dormer is almost twice the age of Margaery in the books.
loras said 'officially, she's a virgin'. which would imply to me she's had sex with other highborn ladies, but she's never had sex with a guy?

Love triangle:

A love triangle is usually a romantic relationship involving three people. While it can refer to two people independently romantically linked with a third, it usually implies that each of the three people has some kind of relationship to the other two. The relationships can be friendships, romantic, familial (often siblings), or even pre-existing hatred between rivals.

It's a love triangle. There's really no two ways about this.

Going by that definition, did you really not see that coming the moment they made Renly and Loras' relationship explicit during the early episodes of the first season? :monster:

No she wasn't, that's kinda the point we're making, :monster:. They turned from an underwhelming, underdeveloped NPC (so to speak) into someone that actually has lines and personality. Which, yes, is a dramatic change, :monster:.

If true, is that a bad change per se? Does it actually detract from the rest of the plot, though?
Thinking about it, the woman no longer being
related to a Lannister
does lose the significance of the character, but at the same time, the show gains a straight third opinion on the Stark-Lannister conflict, which I think is still pretty fresh.

tbh, that was also my impression of Margery in the books; she's just, you know, there, doesn't say much in the books iirc.

Margaery is a much more significant character, though,
being wed to Joffrey and later plotting Cersei's downfall, etc.
I was actually under the impression that she was a little more naive in the books at this point, but oh wells.

the point stands that there is no love triangle. love triangle implies some sort of rivalry or conflict of interest, and there is none.

like, at all.

There is no point. I've already proven why it's a LT.

And besides, you obviously missed Loras & Renly's little lovers' tiff because Renly was more interested in ghey than fulfilling his marital duties.

Anyway...

If there was anything good about the last ep, it would be the scene with Tywin. Charles Dance was absolutely made for that role and steals every scene he's in.

On a sidenote, the guy playing Roose Bolton. He's actually closer to how I imagined Stannis when reading the books.

Did anyone else notice Loras seems to have grown moobs in the second season?

I mean I know he's supposed to look like his sister, but that's taking it a bit too far. He's supposed to be a skilled knight, young and lithe. I was disappointed with the lack of toning on the actor when I saw him the first season, but now he's just starting to get worse.

As far as interpretations of the book characters though, Renly and Loras have been some of the most disappointing, alongside "Yara", who hasn't done much more than standing around slouching and getting doted on by Balon. I effing LOVE Asha.

I can't say I wasn't expecting things to get further and further from the books as the series went on - it's like a domino effect. I mean, they killed off Mago in the first season,
despite GRRM informing them he's going to be important later in the story.

On another note, I totally got my pic taken with Jason Momoa at ECCC. It was awesome. HE'S REALLY TALL.

because marg has to have sex with renly or

its not like she's shunning her brother and being like 'LORAS STOP SUCKING My HUSBAND'S DICK UGH'
but loras did say that 'officially, she's a virgin'. which would either imply that she lost her maidenhead horseback riding or else she lost it with lesbian sex :awesome:

making her not a nonvirgin as you earlier claimed

Wait, are we assuming that Margaery is part-time lesbian now?

TV Tropes, which is probably the authority on all things shipping-related, defines a love triangle as:

A is in love with B, but B is in love with C, resulting in wacky hijinks. Alternatively, A and B are both in love with C, who is torn between the two and must make a choice. In the latter case, A and B tend to be Betty and Veronica; in the former, A will usually be a Romantic False Lead or Hopeless Suitor.
This does not define Margaery's relationship with Renly and Loras. Like, at all.

no she's full-time

I must have missed it in the books. I mean, I knew she had her harem of girls but I was under the impression that she *had* seduced a man or two?

i think the grandaughter of olenna tyrell would know the political value of her own 'purity'/a baby to not risk anything by seducing dudes

i think loras meant official like, she can't come out and say she's had sex but it's more likely she's had sex with her handmaids than anyone else at this point

even dany bangs her handmaids occasionally and marg goes to bed with like three of them every night

maybe her grandmother knows she's a big gay i mean it's awfully convenient she's been married three times and managed to avoid having to have sex and the only arrangement she was ok with was the non threatening gay dude in love with her brother

I never suggested that she was actually stoopid herp
but wasn't she drinking that stuff moon tea (god I'm really bad with names) + already had a broken maidenhead? etc.

the maidenhead thing wasn't much evidence because most highborn girls have theirs broken with horseback riding

i don't quite buy the moon tea explanation only because i refuse to believe marg would be stupid enough to confide something like that to cersei's known lapdog

plus it's still shaky evidence idk -- was it a ruse to make cersei even more nuts (like everything in AFFC?), was it really for marg herself? and ofc if moon tea acts anything like birth control pills there's more than one reason a woman might take it.

If there is more than one effect of moon tea it doesn't seem like anyone knows it. :monster:
That said, it is wierd that Margaery would ask it from Pycelle rather than from her own maester. Still, I never got the impression she was a raging lesbian. and aren't the handmaids she sleeps with her cousins?

Yeah. I'm leaning more on the side that this was part of a set up for Cersei's downfall.

dude

look at the series we're in

(tho i thought she had like, a massive lady entourage and only a few of them were cousins?)

I thought I'd commented on the fact that I got a free copy of episode one but apparently I didn't. Anyways, I do think I shall be picking up a copy of the DVD season one and go with that. I really enjoyed the first episode. Perhaps a little too much reliance on overly-dark themes, but very poignant scenes that keep me wanting more.

Effective advertising, Shaw. :P

Re: other spoiler tags...

Honestly, the placement of Renly's kill was the only thing about last episode that rubbed me the wrong way. The whole scene seemed to be leading up to that, what with the dramatic removal of the gorget etc. It made no sense that the shadow baby took him through the heart instead of his deliciously exposed neck.

Concerning the Tickler: The show has left out so much of Arya's story that I would be surprised if non-readers understood what the hell was happening. I mean, the episode was called "The Ghost of Harrenhal" but ask a show-only fan what that means and they wouldn't be able to answer. At this point, the show has streamlined so much of the book in order to replace it with show-exclusive porny stuff. Arya's story has been watered down to include only it's most basic elements, and it's been reworked to make the bigger characters more important while cutting the other characters out completely (Yoren creates the prayer for Arya. Lommy dies right away.) This Tickler business is no different. I mean, in a perfect world the Tickler would be, you know, just the Tickler and not the Tickler meets Chiswyck with thirty seconds of screentime. In a perfect world, there would have been a scene between Yoren's death and Harrenhal where Arya learns about the Bloody Mummers and we meet important characters like Vargo Hoat, Raff the Sweetling, the Tickler, Polliver, and Zollo. And then when they do plot-central things like oh, say, cut off someone's hand, we know who they are. But I guess we need to make room for tits.

And that's fine. You've got to give the plebes want they want. Tits instead of Raff the Sweetling? I can deal. But you have a scene in which Renly's neck is emphatically exposed, and the story says his throat gets cut, and you're rendering the shadow baby anyway. Changing that is just a waste, a blatant disregard for book-show continuity, pointless and aggrivating.

/my drunk rant

Tyrion gets shit done this season. I like it. He moves with purpose, speed, and clarity that the show needs, especially when most of the other characters are running for their lives. It's nice to have his clear objectives, they give me a sense of the plot driving forward, even amidst all this chaos. I'm glad he isn't "Shae this Shae that" like he was in the books.

Also, all the Qarth stuff is awesome. I hated everything about Qarth in the book, but it seems so painless in the show. I like.
