Flare, if you watched the inside the episode video that plays after the credits, you would have seen that
Arya's 'That not you' line is a throwback to Season 1, where Ned tells her about her future as a highborn lady, and she tells Ned 'That's not me'. Arya's line to Nymeria is basically her saying that Nymeria isn't going to go back to being a domesticated companion after all these years running feral and forming her own pack.

BTW, did any of you fools notice how ALL of those fucking wolves looked EXACTLY like the other Stark kids' direwolves? Nymeria found her a pack of pups to replace to siblings she lost. :'(

Anyways, I cried during all that stuff. AND FUCK. ARYA IS GOING BACK TO WINTERFELL AND JON JUST LEFT!!! WTF!!

And Euron fucking Greyjoy man. Bout damn time they brought out the crazy with this guy. If I'm being completely honest, I kinda like this guy. Everything before this had been kinda meh, except for his introduction at Pyke where he tells Balon 'I am the storm'.

And the set photos about Obara and Nymeria being killed and Ellaria, Tyene, and Yara being taken prisoner were not wrong. :monster:

Back to the beginning of the episode for a second; I am SO fucking glad they had Tyrion mention Myrcella's death by poisoning. Fucking Ellaria. I won't mind when Cersei tortures the hell out of her; her characterization in this show is shite anyway. (I treat the books and the show as separate things, so I'm not trying to be a booksnob here.)

SAM IS GONNA CURE JORAH OF GREYSCALE FUCK YEAH. CAN'T WAIT FOR DANY AND JON TO HEAR ABOUT THAT SHIT.

JON. Will you PLEASE tell your sister your grand plans BEFORE you call a meeting in front of everyone, so you can stop this pointless bickering in front everyone? Serious, from a leadership standpoint, that is a shitty thing to do.

JON AND DANY FINALLY MEET IN THE NEXT FUCKING EPISODE AND HOLY SHIT!!!!

With our luck, it'll probably happen in the last 10 minutes of the fucking episode too. >_>

I don't want that to mean that Nymeria has found her home in the riverlands without Arya ;___; Idk, it's great that she's got a cool normal wolf pack now. But I feel like her and Arya mirrored each other a lot and I don't want to see them part ways like this again. As if they'll never see each other again. I just don't.
Oh, I just watched the inside the episode too. I still don't like it. They're basically confirmed Nymeria is out of the show from now on. Fuck. ;-; Blah.

Sometimes I think I love the direwolves more than the dragons.
Oh and I did notice the pack resembling the original direwolves. That was a nice touch.

Oh, and, about Sansa and Jon, yeah I'm a bit peeved by the announcements being made in front of the lords and shit without them chatting beforehand. Honestly I feel like it doesn't really suit Jon. All it does is make the viewers irritated because it's like the Starks are being kinda pitted against each other. No one wants Stark drama ffs, two have finally been reunited and we don't want to see them undermining each other we just want to see some of the few good guys left actually band together. XD

First I failed to notice that there was already an "inside episode" uploaded for the season starter because the video title was different from the usual. They usually don't involve a recap.

The "inside episode #2" video is uploaded but unlisted. You'll only see it with a link.

- My impression from the season 6 finale, that travel time for characters are now reduced thus allowing for the plot to move along faster, is turning out correct. If this episode had been from the earlier seasons, it would have taken 3 or more episodes just for Jon Snow to receive the letter from Tyrion. I approve of this faster pace.

- My fear was realized when Dany said that she wants Jon Snow to bend the knee. I was naively hoping that she would be better than that. If Jon Snow has to bend the knee to acquire the dragon glass and the aid of her dragons, I'm sure he will. Him bending to a new Targaryen would make him a modern version of Torrhen Stark, who knelt for Aegon the Conqueror, which is sure to weaken Jon's hold over the north.

Hopefully Dany will be convinced enough of the threat of the white walkers that she does not stress that Jon Snow must acknowledge her as the only true monarch.

I suspect Tyrion left out the whole "come down to bend the knee" order/request in his letter to Jon, given Tyrion's worried look when Dany gave the order and because it is never mentioned in the Winterfell scenes.

- Maisie Williams did an excellent job in the close-up shot after Nymeria left. Such grief expressed so subtly yet powerfully. Wonderful.

- I never liked the ladies from Dorne so seeing them killed or captured ranges from "satisfying" to "meh".

Someone should verify this. But, the White Walkers might just walk around the wall for the lulz. It looks like we have a GOT Maginot Line. :monster:

That wasn't very smart thinking :monster:

Although I gathered the ice itself wasn't actually the thing stopping whatever aevil lurks Beyond, there was magicks and shit in there too. And the odd prisoner.

- Metaphysical Littlefinger made me laugh. His character is so pathetic at this point. He's clinging onto the story for dear life and it's showing. Remember when Littlefinger was a badass threat? Those were the days.

- Thanks to Lith's cries I was nervously waiting to see a death that tugged at my heart strings. To my fortune, I did not get it. The final moments of Olenna Tyrell was great. I can't mourn the loss of the character. She was badass and knew how to cast shade but it really felt like it was her time to go.

I wonder if Jaime will actually share with Cersei who actually killed Joffrey. From the first episode it seems that Cersei will not speak to Jaime about their dead children. Maybe that will be a reason for Jaime not to bring this new reveal to Cersei. Even if he told her, it's far from certain that Cersei would let go of her conviction that it was Tyrion who killed Joffrey.

- Bran must be losing his touch with humanity. Why else would he remind Sansa of her wedding to Ramsay Bolton? Bran is becoming a god. The way he speaks is distant and far-off as well. He is losing the sensitivity of a person bound to the ground.

- For most of the time, we have loved the ego of Daenerys Targaryen because of the foul people she has gone up against. Now when she meets Jon Snow, I actually dislike her because of her queenly act. Her reactions are natural, yes, but as the audience I felt like I was given a choice: Who do I like most, Daenerys or Jon Snow? In a heartbeat I choose Jon Snow.

That said, I thank the show for instantly starting the episode with their meeting. I was expecting them to postpone it to the end of this episode or wait until episode 4. Thankfully this was not so. The show makers knew what we wanted and delivered.

- I expected that the taking of Casterly Rock would be an empty victory, though I did not at all anticipate the manner in which it would happen. Clever strategies at play.

- HURRAY! The return of Mycroft Holmes! :D Definitely a highlight of the episode for me, if only because I think he fits so perfectly as a leading employee of the Iron Bank.

This episode was three years in the making for more than one reason. Definitely my favourite so far this season!

Both Jon and Daenerys value human life, which is more than can be said for a lot of leaders in this show, but only one of them has a lust for power and a desire to rule over the seven kingdoms. The other serves reluctantly and understands the true nature of the threat they face. These respective traits have been evident for a long time; their meeting played out exactly how I expected it to. There was no need for me to choose one or the other because I chose Jon a long time ago.

I feel like if Dany were a man no one would give a shit about her
high and mighty attitude at this point. :monster:

Imagine growing up being told that something was your birthright; I'm sure I'd be the same way. Keep in mind that she also wants to appear that way in front of the lords and ladies of kingdoms she's never met so that they know she's not to be taken lightly, or advantage of. She has the circumstance of being a woman in a country where women are barely taken seriously.

You can TELL that she's slowly letting her guard down around Jon. And giving him to opportunity to mine the dragonglass is probably the best decision she's made all season. Give her a chance. I guarantee you by the end of the season we'll see a different side to the character.

Also, a little tidbit about Bran for those who who may be confused about his attitude; someone on the internet pointed out that he might be suffering from sensory overload because of his visions of the past, present, and future, and that might possibly put him on some level of the autistic spectrum, making him seem distant. I feel like I'm the only person who didn't get upset during his scene with Sansa in the Godswood; he wasn't trying to be insensitive, he was convincing her of his powers the only way he knows how. I don't believe Bran actually stood there in the past and watched her be raped. As he said himself, it's all in bits and pieces; he probably saw flashes of the wedding, and flashes of the consequences after. The kid's not a sicko--he's suffering from this enormous weight on his shoulders.

When Dany was in Essos, her attitude felt more righteous because she was always trying to end slavery. She represented a move forward, a progression towards a more modern, humane society. Now when she's nearing her ultimate goal, where the framing is on her wanting her perceived birthright (with little to no framing on freeing slaves), my like of the character plummets. I knew this would happen of course but it is still a stinging wake-up call.

In my case, I will 100% deny that her gender has anything to do with it. Can't account for anyone else, naturally. My money though is on character perceptions being more of a factor rather than gender expectations.

Give her a chance. I guarantee you by the end of the season we'll see a different side to the character.
I agree.

I don't believe Bran actually stood there in the past and watched her be raped.
Oh dear goodness no. XD That interpretation did not even occur in my head.

You'd be surprised how many fans think that Shad. Nobody can use their brain anymore. They just take it at face value.

But no, I've been seeing a lot of Dany hate on the interwebz since the start of the season. Many of it from females. It's hard to believe that there are women out there that are misogynistic towards strong, female characters, but this fandom proves that with every new episode that hits the air. I understand that some feel Dany has gotten too big for her britches--that was the impression I was getting around Season 5, but every time something happens to knock her off that high horse, so just wait.

Btw, photos from next Sunday's episode, The Spoils of War. Nothing crazy spoilerish; most of it we've already seen in the preview for the episode already.

Can I just say that the actor of Grey Worm just blew me away in this episode. I mean he's always been good but this. That scene between him and Missandei - awkward as the gratuitous generic sex stuff towards the end that always is in this show (also if you're going to explain how heterosexual sex isn't just in-and-out, why do the regular she's on her back thing? or maybe that's why they did it), throughout it he portrayed a vulnerability and presence you rarely see on screen. Lumps in my throat. I could read every emotion on his face. That was magnificent.

I'm not saying Missandei was bad in any way, he was just incredibly good.

Also some newspaper just pointed out to me that
mother Lannister was rumoured to be The Mad King's mistress. And so basically not only is Jon Snow and Daenerys (half) siblings, but Tyrion as well. That really does make sense.

Also I do wonder how they're gonna play out the Jon Snow/ Arya romance that Mr. Writer himself was hinting about or what it was I read somewhere, back in the day when people didn't know they weren't biological siblings (just cousins... lol) and people were freaking out about more incest... we probably won't see it on the show because it'll be awkward? idk. They haven't seen each other for years, so... hm. It would take two good actors. I'm not saying Kit and whatshername are bad, but they're by far the best actors on the show.

Also... "newspaper", next gen "floppy disc save icon"... not for long now they'll be explaining to kids why it's called newsPAPER

I've always preferred the fan theory that it's actually the Lannister twins who are The Mad King's children. There's a nice irony to it if Tyrion turns out to be Tywin's only child. Plus the whole one side equals greatness, one side madness Targaryen thing that you can see with Jaime and Cersei. Cersei's fascination with Wildfire/watching things burn, and if the theory turned out to be true then Jaime would also be guilty of killing his father etc. I find it to be a more satisfying fan theory overall. Although Tyrion getting a dragon of his own would be nice to see too. But if there's one thing I learnt from my ASOIAF forum days it is that there's bound to be a fan theory for just about anyone being a secret Targaryen :monster:

Nowhere is it stated that Joanna was the Mad King's mistress,
but it is known that he lusted after her and supposedly during her wedding night with Tywin, he 'took liberties' which we don't know what those were.
The theory for Tyrion makes more sense in the books because of his appearance, but no matter what medium it's shown on I feel like it just cheapens the relationship that Tyrion and Tywin had. Tywin hated Tyrion not only because of his dwarfism and killing Joanna during childbirth, but because he was everything Tywin despised in his own father, a drunkard and whoremonger.

The Jaime and Cersei parentage could also make sense, but again, I feel as if it cheapens the relationships Tywin had with those two. The fact that they turned out to be incestuous just makes it ironic because Aerys and Tywin hated each other, and here are Tywin's children doing things that he despised others for.

Cersei's fascination with wildfire to me doesn't remind me of the Mad King's tendencies, it shows me that she's going down the same dark path, and that Jaime may have to kill her as he did with Aerys, which I think is the little brother that the Valonqar prophecy talks about.

Here's a good video that talks about Tyrion possibly being the son of the Mad King.

I really enjoyed last week's, but this took it to a whole new level. The Cersei bits were a bit meh and probably the most forgettable part imho, though.

It was really great to see Arya home and reunited with Sansa and Bran. Her swordfight with Brienne was a surprisingly good scene and I couldn't really tell whether it was an actual fight or just practicing.

While it's nice to still see Jon and Dany having scenes together, the absolute highlight has to be the Dothraki/Dany and her dragon vs. the Lannister army. I'm glad Bronn's ok, I was quite worried for him during the battle. But then I just wanted to loathe him for trying to kill the dragon.

Very nice cliffhanger there, wonder how Jaime's going to come back up from sinking. I wonder if a certain Gendry bastard will row upon him sometime soon? :awesome:

And finally, HILARIOUS moment between Dany and Missandei. You just knew Missy had that look in her eye and Dany was like, "Yeah gurl, I know about those things you did with Grey Worm..."

Great episode overall, definitely my favourite of the season so far!
