Watched all 13 episodes of Attack on Titan yesterday. I seriously could not stop watching it. Already got the next part on hold from my library. I'm pretty impressed with this story. O_O
Some advice: be sure to avoid Attack on Titan-related sites until you're done with the whole series: it's too easy to get spoilers. And even then: since the manga series goes well beyond the anime episodes (the end of episode 24 in the anime corresponds to volume 8 in manga, there are 16 volumes out in English now), related sites such as wikia are ripe with spoilers. I also found that people able to read Japanese love to spoil it for English readers >_>

I saw that there were a lot of manga volumes out and figured they go beyond the anime, thanks for telling me which manga volume they go up to! Now I can get those and read them to continue the story. ^,^

And yes, there's tons of spoilers out there; the only spoilers I've seen so far are fanart, and they've been pretty mild. I'm avoiding looking up stuff for this series so that I don't get too spoiled. XD
It's pretty rude when people purposely try to spoil it for others. -_-

You may also want to avoid the live action movie, it's kinda meh, :monster:.

Although disturbing at some points, too.

The live action was laughable and not as badass epic as the original mango and animu.

I had no idea there was a live action movie. :awesome: Not as good, eh?

And Yop I think the anime itself is disturbing... surely the live action isn't any worse? :monster:

Oh and by the way, because it's worth a mention,
when Mikasa was on her last legs at the end of the first disc and everything had pretty much slowly gone down to rock bottom, and then she decides to still fight, it really tugged at my heartstrings and I was like "Everyone's going to die" and shit.
And then that second Titan suddenly jumps forward and knocks the shit out of the other one and it was like my eyes got so big and I was stunned, and then suddenly I saw it kill the other one and I was like laughing and so excited and like "OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE THAT?" to like no one in particular because I was watching it by myself.

Like I got so invested into this situation and these characters in such a short time, and when I saw that, saw that there was finally a ray of hope, I felt so happy. An anime that makes me get that emotionally invested is fantastic.

Okay finished part 2 of Attack on Titan. Loved it, again. I prefer the first part's opening and ending theme songs more though. :monster:
Also stoked to hear they're making a second season slated to come out next year in 2016, so awesome, I get something to look forward too!

Some thoughts and spoilers on the anime as a whole:
Firstly, I'm a sucker for those Titan fights with Erin and other Titans. Like I get so excited it's almost scary, I just love them.
This might sound weird to say, but one of the things I love about this anime is how realistic it is, despite such an event happening being of course fantasy. But the characters react realistically with their emotions, people die, people have dreams of grandeur and then die horribly and suddenly, without much warning in this world, which both shows you the terrifying situation humanity is in and also suits it. It would be unrealistic if all the friends and comrades made it out alive and were all badass fighters.
Also realistic in how everything feels for me; since the first episode, when I watched the Colossal Titan break Wall Maria, I felt afraid, as I would if I was there in that place. It really sucked me in; not like I was afraid when I turned the show off, but watching it, I felt the danger and fear and horror. Somehow, this story really puts those feelings in me.
Anyway, I love it when Erin transforms, it's awesome. Not sure what it is about it, I think his Titan form is a cool design, but the sounds they make and how both creepy and awesome he looks definitely contributes.

So was I the only one who suspected that the female Titan was Annie fairly early on? After the first episode you see her in, I thought she looked pretty similar to Annie, and the way she stopped before killing Armen made me think she knew him and didn't want to kill him.
But now she's stuck in some crystal cocoon and the anime ends with a cryptic saying of how they wouldn't find out just what's up with her and how important it is until much later on. :monster:
Oh and that little tiny minuscule itty bitty detail of a Titan's face in the wall. After a bit of stone crumbles away. Like yeah. HOLY SHIT. What does that mean?

Anywayyyyy, thoughts I want answered in the future: Who are the other two Titan's, the Armored one and the Colossal? Are they also characters we know in the anime, or people that have yet to be revealed? Have they been around from the beginning (the characters) or just from the start of the second part?
Where is Erin's dad, is he still alive and out there? What's in that basement?
What's up with Annie?
Will Erin lose it and eat people, like when he starts getting freaky and crazy as a Titan and talks about wanting to eat other Titans?
Where did the Titans even come from?
Why is there a Titan inside the wall? is it made from Titans or something?
Why is Erin's Titan form very much like a normal Titan, with skin and stuff, whereas the other special Titan forms have that bone/muscle showing? What makes them so different in looks and how do they get that power?
Aaand last question, also bit of a theory: Why, if those special Titans are people as well, would they be trying to destroy humanity's last safe haven? Why would they do that? For revenge? Hatred? Something else? Makes me wonder if perhaps there's another human settlement out there that's using the Titans to take out a faction of humanity that they don't want.

It would be unrealistic if all the friends and comrades made it out alive and were all badass fighters.

And yet, they don't really come across as professional soldiers either - actually, this is worse in the movie, the anime at least presents them as an army with formal training and shit. The movie just has a bunch of kids / random people flail around. No discipline in the guards at the wall, either - and why are the cannons pointed inland anyway? argh!

From the five minutes I've seen of the movie there's no way I'd go anywhere near it. AoT is not a series built for live action and even so the movie still does a terrible job.

The numerous changes made was very appalling, they should have remained faithful to the source at some capacity, that is not turning Mikasa into a damsel but the badass she was meant to be.

I'll just stick to the anime and manga. I'm getting the next few volumes from my library that take place right after the first season of the anime ends so I can continue with the story. :monster:
By the way, forgot to mention, but the soundtrack to the anime is amazing. I checked it out on iTunes because there was a couple songs I like, and ended up finding out that I pretty much like all the songs. The dude who composed it did a seriously brilliant job.

I've been on a bit of an anime rampage lately but two of note were Clannad (as well as its sequel, After Story) and Angel Beats!. Both are chuck full of funny moments but just as many feels. My tiny little heart couldn't take it back-to-back so I'm watching strictly comedy for a little while :monster:

Anyway, what I meant to say was Angel Beats! has a ton of great music in it with a variety of tones. I've been listening to the OST while I fall asleep lately.

^ Glad you enjoyed AoT :)
A bunch of your questions are already answered in the mangas which have been already published in English. And on a number of occasions, one answer brings forth even more questions!
I too really liked how they managed to make you feel for the characters - I think the episodes where the protagonists all go through their military training (prior to the breach in Trost) really do a good job to bond with them, and the death of some characters indicate that there shall be no "Plot armor".
By the way, if you like the soundtrack of AoT, there's a whole genre of symphonic metal with a very similar vibe, as can be illustrated by good ol' Rhapsody. I pretty much fell into that 18 years ago, so I know a little :P

So I started watching Attack on Titan, currently on episode 11.

I think it's fantastic, but only if you completely ignore the existence of the main character. He is the whiniest, most annoying character I've ever encountered in anime. I absolutely can't stand him. I was literally fist pumping
when he got eaten, and I started rocking back and forward in my chair basically praying at the screen that he wouldn't reappear, but kind of expecting that he would
, and here we are, sigh.

I'm still going to watch it, but it's in spite of him. Every second he's on the screen detracts from what I think is a phenomenal show.

Btw I finished Attack on Titan and I do not get the hype. I've seen quite a few anime shows at this point and it does not rank even in the top 5. It's good, not denying that. I have no idea why people are so obsessed with it.

Out of interest, what are your top 5 ranked shows? I definitely wouldn't put AoT in my top 5 either, though I definitely enjoyed it.

The anime's good. The OST is great (or so I think, anyway) and the manga goes on in a very interesting direction... Not that I defend obsession, of course. But I do find it very good. :)

I don't really have a set top 5 (I should start using that site you use to rank and track anime), it's just that I can think of at least 5 anime shows I'd rather watch (and it becomes awkward because it's for set blocks of some shows and not the rest). Among them Twelve Kingdoms, Tokyo Ghoul (S1), SAO (S1), FMA Brotherhood, Digimon 01, Psycho-Pass, Steins Gate (and I've still only seen the first 10 episodes) are all shows I'd rather watch than AoT. SAO is objectively worse IMO, but if you were to ask me to watch season one of either show right now I'd say I'd rather watch SAO. It just entertained me more.

This is the problem with unfinished anime though, it's almost impossible to form a proper opinion until it's all out there.

I finished One Punch Man and I'm glad he has become popular. I read him in 2013-14 then stopped to let the manga build up but catching up on the alien saga on the anime is good. It's a shame they made 12 when 16 or 23 could have been possible.

I actually think that 12 works better because it makes for a more logical arc, because Boros is really the end of the Saitama 1ups powerful beings with raw strength, before the series moves to build outwards and change its format a little in interesting new ways.

I'm glad that they did what they did with it, and I'm hoping that Yusuke Murata can stay on track, and Madhouse should have enough material for a second season by the end of 2016 if it all keeps up.

Besides, we've got the OVAs to keep things going for a bit still.

Rurouni Kenshin is the all time greatest manga/anime ever because I say so :monster:

That being said, I finally got around to watching all of Inuyasha + The Final Act, and I loved it. Never got to watch that when I was a kid.

I used to be a big fan of Dragon Ball, and, even now, I'm involved in the fan community, but it's just not, well, good enough anymore. The flaws that I would have just glanced over as a kid are too glaring for me to ignore nowadays.
