And even more amazing, they toned down all the superfluous stuff on his outfit in the DC ending. That must have killed Nomura, but he looked better for it.

I preferred his DC look tbh.

In CC he just looks like a fruity Sephiroth.

I don't hate Genesis, I actually like him a little. I just think that the story would have been better if he dies pathetically at the end of CC.

Apparently he sees himself as some sort of protector after Crisis Core, going underground until he deems the planet needs him.

I don't see a need for him honestly and hate how they retconned him in to the Nibelheim incident. They've also framed his future strangely. He doesn't get involved in the Meteor Crisis, Sephiroth's Advent, or the Omega Crisis, but whatever work or threat after DoC is deemed important enough to get his attention.

I think this is spot on. I never liked him either. He was a real douche and didnt fit in to the story line well. Very lazily done.

I was willing to overlook the Gackt publicity stunt and give him half a chance. A forgotten experiment from Shinra's past? Hey, it could work. I was quite intrigued by what the nature of his origin would be. I liked the idea that Sephiroth & Genesis were a dichotomy of the SOLDIER project, insofar that while Sephiroth was derived from Jenova and inherited her traits, Genesis was a Mako-based experiment. With that in mind, Genesis could have been a powerful magic-caster, able to fully harness his spirit energy or the energy around him. Something like that? Instead, "Project G" was just a knock-off of the Jenova project and wasn't even coined after Genesis in the first place but some random bitch no one cares about.

Heaven forbid they actually try to do something original with his character...

Oh wait... Loveless.... Dumbapples...

Lol seriously, I wouldn't have a problem with Genesis' character if it weren't for the annoying Loveless-reciting and fruity appearance for a first class warrior (Sephiroth and his long and shiny mane can at least inspire fear or awe, Genesis just looks ultra gaaaay to me). I have no problem about Gackt's look, he's a popstar FFS, but that stuff needs to stay away from the Compilation-- it just makes the character look goofy imho. I can accept the metrosexual look as long as it borders on Cloud's/ Zack's or even Sephiroth's only.

I wouldn't mind him reappearing in the next entry for the Compilation, though. At least SE can finally make a continuation conclusion of his story-- and that's much more bearable than randomly throwing in uninteresting new characters.

well... i don't hate him....
i hate LOVELESS... but i don't hate him..
he's just the same thing he is in and out compilation, a 'failed' Sephiroth.( maybe this explain better what i mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM1gmDMQ1YY )
in CC he 'pretend' to be like Sephiroth(look the coat for exemple), but he is more a 'negative' than a copy. he has what Sephiroth doesn't have (some stupid and worthless hobbies, a human past..)and he doesn't have what Sephy has (a truth, strong hate against everithing, a 'dark' past...).
but i still don't hate him.

and, some speculation: i'm the only one who think that he's Pr.Gast's secret son?
in Project J we have two triangle, the first is the Gast-Hojo-Hollander triangle, the second in the Genesis-Sephiroth-Angeal triangle. now, we know that Hojo&Sephiroth and Hollander&Angeal have both a father-son relationship, so we can hypothesize the same relationship between the two remanents character. :geek:
(and that surely will make Sephy really angry)

No they don't. Sephiroth was completely unaware that Hojo was his father, while Hojo largely didn't seem to care despite knowing (as usual he prattles about seeing his research through, not about being Sephy's daddy). If Sephiroth had/wanted a father/son relationship with anyone, going off his dialogue it'd be Gast.

Which is ironic as hell given what he did to Gast's daughter.

I think Genesis had an interesting story and personality, but it bogged down in all this extreme poetry and angst. He could have been meancing and destructive but he just feels like a wangsty teenager. If they do bring him back I just hope they do what I imagined his character and him a serious threat. That would make him exciting to watch, rather than wonder if he would be shitting poetry until he'd died.

There's nothing wrong with Angst so long as it's "stylish angst".

Any fans of Visual Kei and Gothic Lolita can attest to this.

Even if you enjoy angst, which I sometimes do if its handled well, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. And with Genesis, it wasn't even handled well from my perspective. Still, I suppose I'm glad to see not everyone hated him. He exists within the story now, no changing that, so as long as he does someone ought to enjoy said existence.

I can't imagine angst is good for any reason except for when a character has a legit reason for being angsty. And IIRC angsty is being depressed and sad and shit for little or no reason. I can't say Genesis was that all the time, but he came off petulant and way too obsessed with that Loveless play. I like that he had an interest in it, but found that this overshadowed his personality. It just wasn't to my tastes.

Still, again, I wouldn't mind seeing him again, just less angst and more badass, is all.

I like Genesis. I think he is an interesting character. I would hope we'd get to know more of his history. Thing is, I wish he was not an afterthought. I wish SE knew of Genesis and Angeal when they created VII, and didn't introduce them and try to make them a part of the main storyline like they did in Crisis Core. That's my biggest gripe, because it contradicts some stuff, and confuses the story. Also, the Dracula-like English voice over at the end of DoC... I do not want to hear that if and when a sequel to DoC comes around.

maybe you have misunderstanding what i mean. i know that Sephiroth doesn't know that hojo is his father but ,aware or unaware, they are father and son.
and the same with Angeal and Hollander.
the mean i gave at the word 'relationship' is ' biologic bond' not 'affetive relationship' (maybe i've chosen the wrong word)

I think this is a Japanese thing. Citing poetry is common in anime and as far as I know in other types of media/story telling as well. Instead of talking about himself and his interests directly, he does it through a play.

This is party of why I prefer subs instead of dubs. Hearing/ watching the cutscenes in an English dub (which sort of makes me think of the scens in an 'English context') will often confuse me more than enlighten me. When I saw the subbed version of the BC cutscenes I had a lot of eureka moments - as I often do when watching subbed originals after watching the English dubs at first.

When doing subs you have a lot more freedom in the translation as you don't have to match the lip synch. Also, the VA's work won't be interpreted through a translator AND a director - you will have the original cast, who understands the meaning of the original script, as it's all in Japanese, to give you the proper tone of voice. As good as the VA's are in BC (because they don't suck!) I will always prefer the original 'dub'.

I think these two versions of the same scene are quite different. Watch the sub first.

And then the dub.

I have to say again, that the dub is very good. But there are small differences - put in for cultural differences, I'm sure. Like Aerith seems to be teasing him more in the original version. Or is it just me?

(Sorry I couldn't come up with an example that portraits Geneses, lazy)
