I thought GTAV's graphics were pretty awesome when it came out on the PS3. I'd never seen such draw distance. The character models were the only slightly unimpressive thing. By the way, Lex, the way they move in GTA is pretty standard for Rockstar games - at least, it felt the same for me in LA Noire and Red Dead Redemption - so don't expect that to change, especially not a couple of years after the game's release.
I know the movement thing is a Rockstar games staple, and it's nowhere near as clunky and bad as GTAIV, but it was so bad in GTAIV that I was put off getting even halfway through the game, which is unusual for me (as you know).
I'm surprised you don't think much of the graphics as it blew me away on the PS4.
Definitely agree about the characters though - their personalities and story scenarios only get better the deeper you enter the game. Without a doubt it was one of my highlights of V, and one aspect I thought they really nailed this time around.
It's not that the graphics aren't great, it's just they've been treated like the second coming of Jesus or something and I've been horrendously spoiled by things like Dragon Age: Inquisition which just look ridiculously good in comparison. Don't get me wrong, considering this is essentially a last-gen title I am impressed - roads and buildings in particular look quite good (and this matters because you spend more time looking at them than you do at characters).
But the character movement thing really bothers me. Not just in terms of you controlling them, but I get frustrated looking at their arms because none of the models move properly. Everything is stiff and awkward, and you'd think they'd have sorted this out by now after so many games. I'll say they've improved it a lot though.
It's still great, none of this detracts from the experience really (because I've been playing GTA since I was a young child and I'm used to the shitty movement XD). It's just a personal annoyance.
Part of the thing I really love about it is the atmosphere of this game. It has a similar feel when you're running around doing stuff as Vice City, which was one of my favourites. Except this is much more atmospheric, I like that the characters comment and react to a lot more of what's happening.
Btw is there like a recommended mission order or anything? The ability to switch is making me paranoid that I'm going to miss some missions if I go too far with one character and not the others XD.
Also where are the male hookers rockstar I want to be as horribly seedy as all the men in the world XD
