^^^ Thank you.
Okay guys, I'm really excited to share this with ye' fellow arteests! I was able to successful make sort-of-alcohol-ink with 91 proof rubbing alcohol and sharpie markers.
Basically, I just popped open a few sharpie markers, took out the little foam ink cartridge, and soaked them in alcohol for, oh...a month:
The result is just what I wanted:
This is exciting because ink is so expensive. Reasonably priced pigment inks are $4-5 per ounce and alcohol inks are about $5-6 per ounce. You could easily make an eight ounce jar with just a few sharpie markers and a bottle of alcohol.
Note, however that these can't be used on canvas. It will basically just eat through any sizing that's on your canvas, destroy your paper, etc.. I 'm using it on Yupo (synthetic) paper, which is sort of like painting on a sheet of plastic. It works well on glass too.
They are transparent but can be built up semi-opaque, and because it's made with alcohol, they dry VERY fast.
Even if you don't consider yourself to be an artist, painting with is like free therapy.
