I personally joined for the lulz of the LTD [the high spirit, snark and all iz awesome; I wish more forum had that freedom of speech XD].
I'm trying to look out for other threads, but as I am not in the FFVII fandom save for the cloti LJ com and this forum, and that I didn't play anything else than FFVII as a game.. I'm feeling kind of lost XD
Now I understand that you'd wish people would look around, and I think that they do when they really want to. But it's not because we're reading posts that we have something to add to the conversation ;/ At least, that's how I feel
Now, if they made a sequel or a remake of the original game, that'd probably change and put life back in the whole forum, as it was for ACC, for example XD
The LTD is just easy to lurk around because we don't have to be serious in it XD And even then, it's often that I lurk there without posting anything XD
Well of course, just look around, is all I'm really saying. It's easy to dick around in a timesink, and sure, you have the right to do so, but is that really...good? Sure it's not HURTING anyone, but (and this is coming from the biggest timewaster around; me), if there's a better use of your time and your time to the fandom than wasting it, why not consider redirecting it?

How is it wasting time, being involved in something we clearly enjoy? Why spread out our focus onto topics of the game that don't interest us? Why bother to 'fan' something if you can't just enjoy it? There is no obligation to redirect energies away from something that YOU consider a waste of time or beneath fandom expectations simply because you don't like it. The LTD gets so much attention because it's fun. It really is that simple.

Like eight people said 'because it wastes time' in this topic alone. I wouldn't even have said it if others didn't say it first.
Just give it a try, if you haven't already. I could easily use your logic of 'WHY DO ANYTHING ELSE THIS IS SO MUCH FUN I'LL DO IT FOREVER AND NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE' to to justify not trying new foods, not talking to people I'm not familiar with, not trying new hobbies, etc etc. Step out of your comfort zone and see what's out there.

I know personally I care more about the LTD because (as someone else mentioned) it's one of the last things we can speculate about.
Advent Children (and the entire Compilation, really) took away a lot of what we used to speculate about. I thought the world ended after the game. I would have loved to discuss this possibility, I would have loved to discuss what happened to Sephiroth and Aerith in the lifestream, hell I would have loved to discuss what the lifestream was even like.
But we can't because we already know. And while I do like that Square is fleshing out the world, I feel saddened because I can't really speculate anymore. Evangelion forums are full of tons of different threads that expand beyond just "DID SHINJI LIEK ASUKA OR REI" because GAINAX leaves a lot more to the imagination. Speculation is only fun when you don't know the answers already.
However, SE is so secretive about the LTD and makes it so subtle that it's something that draws my interest. Besides, I'm a shipper at heart anyways.

The newb here has actually cut straight to the heart of the problem as I see it by suggesting things we can direct our attention towards that actually add more content to the site and forums, rather than just stagnate them and pool the activity of members who are too used to their comfort zone to try to contribute anywhere else.

Ahh I see your point, and I agree it'd be nice if everyone who's local to the LTD thread also ventured out and posted elsewhere. Hell, that's what I do all the time.

It's just how it is. It's the reality of the fandom and its influence on its fans. It can't be stopped now that its already begun. There's only acceptance, or futilely trying to change their minds.

This sounds like a brilliant idea. Feel free to reopen the LTD when some new evidence emerges, but since everything has been discussed to death close it down.
