Kitase would consider FFVII-2

I'm really confused. Didn't they before? Wasn't that the compilation?

He seems to be referring to a remake or a proper sequel.

Also, most successful is a subjective classification.

Not when you're referring to sales and popularity.
but Metacritic actually rates IX higher and ties VII with VI and X.

Ugh, Metacritic ratings are never a good measure of how successful or good anything is.

It's like saying Justin Bieber is a fantastic artist because hordes of schoolgirls think his music is godly.
I don't think calling them "smaller successes" quite does them justice.

Can't argue there.

Ok, what I'm saying is:

If continuing the Compiliation would bring Square Enix more money...why aren't they doing it?

Can I put it any simpler?
Can't argue there.

Is that simple enough?

Because they're pussies and think it would be technically infeasible. At least in terms of a remake.

Do you know how tied up with projects SE is at the moment?

And projects they HAVE to suceed in because of they're latest failures.

They have no time or technical staff, or even the money for a proper sequel(continuing Genesis's motives post-DoC; which i really fucking hope has Cloud and not anyone else as a protagonist :/) or remake atm.

Could you elaborate on that? What their current budget is, staff resources, etc. And what projects they're currently working on that would turn a higher profit than the FF7 franchise.

None of them would turn on higher profit than the Compilation that's for sure.

But they have tons of work to currently do.

Include stuff as:

- FFXIII-2

- VsXIII

- FF Type-0

- Fixing FFXIV

- random Kingdom Hearts sidegame on random handheld system

etc...

I doubt they are currently thinking of another compilation entry, however more money It would give(and It would).

They're money plan is just awfull.

Why doesnt Rowling just keep on making more Harry Potter books?

Maybe SE learned its lesson and now knows good things are best left alone.

^ Even if that makes sense, you can't just go and say "I started this and I won't finish it".

I remember hearing already in 1998/1999 that Rowling wanted to write seven books. She wrote seven books and was done with it. Her "grand plan" included writing seven books, so she followed it. It's not that "good things are best left alone"; it's just that that's what she wanted to do. Square wanted to do one game, and then it was so successful that they thought "Hey what if we try to milk it and get a lot of money?", and they did.

Even if I agree that they shouldn't have done all that (as much as I enjoy the Compilation, with its' flaws), the best thing they can do now is FINISH IT. I'm not saying they should do a remake (I'd like that, but hey), but at least make a game that acts as a conclusion, and get over with it.

I don't know why it's so important for them to "finish" it. Is the cliffhanger at the end of DC really *that* intriguing? I mean, despite that little scene DC finished things pretty much. It's not like Assassin's Creed where the games end with no real conclusion and you know they have planned for more games already and one game is just a piece of a bigger puzzle.

As far as the compilation goes, the end of DC doesn't really make me wonder what they have planned for what comes after it - because I knew they just threw that scene in and don't have a plan for a sequel - even now. Hell, it even says "and so the hound weaves the *final chapter* in this tale of life" at the beginning of DC so it almost seems like even with the secret ending they didn't mean to create more shit.

What I'm saying is - it's not like we're really left hanging in the middle of a story arc that desperately needs conclusion.
Only Genesis' story is left open.

The important question you should ask yourself is - do you *really* give a fuck about him?

Still, I want to know what plans Genesis has to "protect" the planet in his own twisted views.

And I don't want it strictly per say because of Genesis, though his arc should be teh catalyst for the story.

I would like to see some post-AC Cloud(since he barely did anything in DoC because It was Vincent's game, couldn't have him stealing the show).

How he and his family evolved, how would he deal with Weiss and Genesis, etc...

And why would all that deserve a game?
A small novel , graphic novel, web comic or even just a 18 page paper back comic will the trick to tell you about whats going on there.

Theres plenty of games in the FF universe that they didnt return to and there still gems, the ones they returned to have absolutely been tainted, why do you even want this terrible company retouching on there decent titles yet again.

If I didn't give a shit about it, I wouldn't be saying "They have to finish it", right?

Besides, I think they fucked up everything enough, so if they finish it, they should try to do it in style, with a good RPG game, and not with some half-assed novel, graphic novel, webcome, anime, manga or whatever thing you want.

And I'll come back to what has been said a thousand times. No matter what they do, the OG is still there, unchanged, for all of us to enjoy.

They can barely build a town, they cant make a good rpg game.

Not mention there novels have been vastly superior to there video game content, they honestly should just look into writing novels from now on. It gives you remaining fans of this failing company what you want alot faster and you wont have the consistent let down of yet another terrible game.

Then again that wouldnt work for the compilation as even the literary content in this garbage heap was pretty much half assed and terrible.

Though, if they're as doomed as you say, what do they have to lose? Those who are of the mind that a poor sequel can ruin the original have already decided that. And those that don't believe that aren't going to be swayed now. So either they redeem themselves or fail a little faster.

(That rationale isn't necessarily why I would like them to finish it, but just a question I pose to Gabe's argument.)

My point really is

Why do they need to make a game to answer the unanswered questions that dont deserve a game?

Genesis Intent after DOC? doesnt need a game.
Seeing more cloud? Thats just fan service, doesnt need a game.
Finding out if cloud and tifa can upkeep there pseudo family? Novel material.

There is nothing left to say about this compilation that really deserves an actual game, you will just be waiting another 5 years to play a game you will be complaining about 1 week down the road.

Anything that maybe worth while to bring up can be done so through any medium that isnt a game. The compilation is dead, it doesnt need to be revived SE already tried and failed horribly.

Those who are of the mind that a poor sequel can ruin the original have already decided that
Im not really a fan of FF7 anyway, you cant ruin a game i didnt find to be all that great in the first place :P

Seeing how a character saves th world in a videogame world, without an actual videogame feel wrong to me.

I don't even know how answer this. We had plenty of cloud fanservice in AC and CC. I think the whole point here is, being able to play as Cloud.

Finding out if cloud and tifa can upkeep there pseudo family? Novel material.

Sure, if it was just that.

For all the Compilation's faults, I still prefer playing it's entries then reading them, or nothing at all.

Funny because the literary entries in the compilation are pretty much the only worth while entries thus far.

Less Cloud, more Tifa plz.

Scrap that.

Just Tifa plz.

LOL No.

Cloud Strife or bust.

You know why Cloud will always be infinately more popular than Tifa?

Tifa only appeals to fanboys with a love of bland characters with average to large sized breasts.

Cloud Strife appeals sexually to both fanboys and fangirls.

Fuck off with this kinda shit.

Tifa is no more bland than any other character in the goddamn game. Oh and I don't think the girls that are her fans give a fuck about her boobs.

Go slander people elsewhere with your bias generalizations and unfounded bullshit.

So you mean to say that girls are unwilling to bang Tifa?

I think you're on the wrong forum, mate.
