KupoCon: Pomtroplis (Vancouver April 21st,2018)

Alex (the lead organiser) already seemed to know I was going to all of them so far (guess he'll know about Pomathon now, too ) and a lot of other people I met at the last one asked me a lot about KC in general since it was their first and saw I'd been to MTP (I was proudly wearing my t-shirt).

Honestly, I'd be surprised if no one knew I was going to them all.

As much as I would loo0o0o0ooove to share accom, I'm driving with Mr Channy from 8 hours away (opposite Seattle).. we both have family there to stay with to make our trip cheap thankfully but the night of the con will be spent at the hotel. So with Pomathon tickets available and I just recently got my Pomingham Palace accommodation sorted with some other TLSers, I was wondering what people were thinking about accommodation for Pomtropolis? When accommodation for PMP was discussed on Discord a few weeks ago, there was a brief mention of Seattle before getting the train to Vancouver (4 hours, I believe?).

Is anyone interested in shared accommodation? I want to look at Air BnB to see what the prices are like compared to the hotel. I also need to start planning the journey and book the flights, plus it's only four months away.

So the idea is to spend 2 or 3 days in Seattle, depending if people arrive on Sunday or Monday. Then taking Amtrak to Vancouver and then heading back down the Monday after KupoCon to Seattle on a bus.

The problem that has been noticed with Air BnB is that you have to put a deposit up front and that's probably going to be difficult for most of us. There have been a couple of nice apartments showing up on expedia when I've checked hotels. We need to know for sure who's going to Seattle to decide if it's better to do a hotel or an apartment.

As for accommodations in Vancouver I think it would be better if we stay at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront where the event is being held.

I love the idea of hitting up Seattle and Vancouver both. I think there was an idea of people arriving in Seattle and being there a few days before KupoCon, and then taking the Amtrak train to Vancouver the day before, and chilling there for a bit as well?

I know I'll for sure want to room with someone (or more!) to save on costs! And after London some of us won't be strangers anymore so maybe it'll be extra cozy
Staying at the venue hotel is fine by me, makes things easy and it looks quite nice. I'm not opposed to staying somewhere close by though if we found a better and cheaper option.

Idk about Seattle but since it'd take me an hour to drive down there everyday, it'd probably be best if I stayed in a hotel with people while you're all down there.

Also iirc Mog expressed interest in meeting us if we hang out in Seattle So that's a good reason to swing by right?

Regarding the event hotel, I don't mind rooming with someone. I've been comparing rooms and it's obviously cheaper that way. I've just had Toronto and as amazing as it was, it was on the expensive side since I was rooming alone (though I still have half my spending money after getting home, so not all bad!). So yes please, if anyone doesn't mind rooming with a hyper Brit, that'd be cool.

The same also applies to Seattle. I'm very keen on going to Seattle just so I can say I've been to America to see the sights and spend time with people before KupoCon.

I wanted to get this discussion going as it was mentioned on Discord (I believe it was Carlie that briefly hijacked the PMP discussion? ) and we should try get the ball rolling as soon as possible. Depending on when people get there, I'm cool with getting there Sunday/Monday or even a day or two later. The flight is probably going to be the most expensive thing for me (the prices keep going up and down) and I want to see if I can get this booked after Christmas at the latest.

Yes it was me, I like to have trips planned months before it and the closer we get to the date accommodations get harder and more expensive to find.

My hubby and I will be there. Still finalizing details on when we'll be arriving and for how long we will stay. I don't think the rooming thing will work for us, though, sorry. Our plans will probably involve being in Vancouver for almost a week and I know a lot of you are coming for only a few days, so that won't work.

The event is going to be at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront, you need to buy your ticket in advance. Leviathan and Odin include the pass for the evening event which are super fun.

So I have a guest room with a very comfy pull-out couch that I once lived on for months and can vouch for its decency. I also have an actual couch in the living room that can fit another and some say its even comfier than the pull-out. I've offered these to a couple of TLSers in an attempt to persuade them to come to Pomtropolis, but alas it wasn't enough.

Anyway, it looks like I'll be able to accommodate one, or perhaps two, of you. My fiance Sarah and I are great hosts and pretty chill. Is anyone interested?

I live just outside of the downtown core, it takes just as long to walk to the venue as it would to bus.

Sarah and I can host for up to a week. If this is the deciding factor for anyone on the fence, I urge you to come! It&#8217;s gonna be an awesome time.
