BTW, the Japanese quote in that was: &#19990;&#30028;&#12364;&#32066;&#12431;&#12427;, which means, "the world ends" or "the end of the world" (the verb isn't conjugated which makes the direct translation a little ambiguous, but I think it still gets the point across either way).

Whoah now that brings a new dimension to my adoration of Godzilla. Eat those Cloverfield knock offs, cos in the sequel, we battle King Ghidora.

Even though the Legendary design of Godzilla isn't my favorite Godzilla look, I would be very interested in seeing Legendary design their versions of the Toho kaiju/monsters.

But seriously this movie looks fantastic.
But I don't want to see in 3D. I saw the 2nd Hobbit film in 3d and it seemed murky/unfocused, I imagine that Godzilla will be the same for some reason.

As a counter-point, I've seen The Hobbit: DoS in both 2D 24FPS & 3D 48FPS, and the 3D is VASTLY superior in clarity and every other quality, and the 2D version looked really blurry and unfocused by comparison. I think it really just comes down to the theater itself for a lot of that and how nice their 3D equipment is. That being said - go for whatever format has the best viewing quality for you. (We have IMAX & XD theaters all over, and they're absolutely gorgeous in both 2D & 3D films, but I always choose 3D if there's the option, because they look fantastic).

I think it really just comes down to the theater itself for a lot of that and how nice their 3D equipment is.

^ Methinks this is the culprit.
Beorn's bees/hornets looked fantastic in 3D, I felt the need to swat them away, but I didn't really notice any beautiful use's of 3D later on in the film.


Back to Godzilla: I just saw an encouraging quote from the director:

Edwards stated that he wanted Godzilla to work as a standalone film with a definitive ending, and he opposed suggestions that the ending should leave the film open for a sequel. While Edwards is not against the possibility of future sequels, his main concern was delivering a satisfying experience with the current film: "I want a story that begins and ends, and you leave on a high. That's all we cared about when we were making this; just this film. If this film is good, the others can come, but let's just pay attention to this and not get sidetracked by other things."[49]

In an age of franchise's and crappy sequels it's good to hear directors focusing on just one film.
