Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

I still gotta play the that Lightning DLC, I have it, just haven't played it yet. Maybe this week. And yeah I like the Enforcer outfit much better :P I'd have liked the Summoner's garb if I were willing to pay money for an outfit. But I'm not.

The Lightning DLC doesn't take too long, if I remember correctly, so you should definitely play it this week if you can get me to turn off ME2 long enough . I liked the way the battle worked in that DLC as well, though I do wonder if they did it that way to
make the DLC a bit longer, so people felt as though they were getting their money's worth? Not that Square really seems to care about that, actually, (see the prices of their mobile games). But in theory, wouldn't Lightning have already known all of the skills/paradigms you unlock?

In regards to the DLCs - everything Splintered said. I started by buying the Omega DLC, then bought the Lightning/Amodar DLC before I had even beaten Omega's, beat Lightning/Amodar easily the first time I tried it, died a lot during Omega's, and once I'd gotten the hang of that fight it still took me a million tries to actually get Omega (still haven't gotten Lightning or Amodar, I don't think), then I bought the Ultros/Typhon DLC. Tried it several times, got nowhere, realized I wasn't having fun with it anymore, and so gave up, and seeing the difficulty progression, didn't bother buying any of the other Colliseum DLCs. I didn't get Snow's or Sazh's because I heard that they were both disappointing, as far as story relevance went.

Great Old One
Sazh: I adore the little chocobos, so even though running after them can be repetitive and boring, I like this part of the DLC. There's also something to learn about Chocolina here. The reason I love this DLC though is because I love Texas Hold'em. If I'm bored of fighting, I go back to the Poker table to earn some Coins. On my last PT I had over 600,000 of them. If you complete the DLC you get Sazh's crystal and he's a great SYN, so I'd recommend getting this one.

Omega: Easy fight, don't bother unless you want to try to get Omega, he's a great COM although there are other COMs I prefer over him because I find him a bit dull to use.

Lightning & Amodar: Mandatory, as you'd definitely want Lightning as a RAV. I got Amodar on my latest PT but I haven't tried using him yet.

Ultros & Typhoon: Fairly easy once you know how to take them down. I haven't tried using any of them in my party - afaik you can recruit them both? I wouldn't spend my cash on this one though if I only could pick a few.

PuPu: I wouldn't really bother. The battle is an annoying Neochu copy. PuPu might be worth recruiting though, I don't know.

Snow: A must. Cute cutscene, the fight itself is all about timing and not messing up, I enjoy it every time I do it. Snow is also a great SEN to recruit, especially if you get him early. I was way underleveled when I got him the first time (the fight took me 34 minutes!) and needless to say he pulled me through a lot of the other DLC fights. He's the best tank you'll ever get.

Nabaat: A fun and challenging fight you need to plan out. One of my favorite fights of the DLC's. I got her crystal during my first PT but I haven't gotten around to infusing and leveling her yet, which I think you'll have to do for her to be any better than Serah at SABing. She was pretty crap when I tried using her without any leveling.

Gilgamesh: If you want to repeatedly feel the urge to throw your controller at the TV, then this is the fight for you. I haven't been able to beat him yet.

Valdofr: lvl 99 Valdofr is supposed to be the toughest boss of them all. I've only beaten him at lvl 1. I guess that makes him good value for money as you get to fight him 5 times or something.

ValkyrieLightning: A great introduction to the "Lightning solo" concept. I found the battles to be interesting enough to keep me entertained. It is Caius vs Lightning after all, and I like both characters. Beating Caius I've found to be all about timing, as you can interrupt him. You need to use the Triangle button a lot to plan out how many ATB units you want to spend. The last few fights can be a challenge but they're doable, and as a reward you get COM!Light which is a really powerful COM and possibly will end up being the only COM you'll ever use.

I guess that's Sazh, Snow, RAVLightning, Nabaat, COMLightning. And Gilgamesh if you're a masochist.

level 99 Valfdor kind of reminds me of Gilgamesh actually, I used a similar strategy against him anyway. That said, he might be a little harder but I think you can use a more flexible strategy against him. Also note that for rewards, you can pick up some of the "one time get" monsters like pichuu/gold and silver chocobos and what have you.

Story-wise you can think that since Lightning and Caius' battles in Valhalla run in a loop, Lightning learned more skills across the battles she fought in. To be honest I think they just did it to make the DLC longer, but you can think of it that way.

As for me, I'm lucky enough that the normal brand new copy of XIII-2 in my area is the Nordic Edition by default, so I got Noel's Battle Attire and Muramasa, Serah's Summoner Garb, and the Omega Coliseum DLC contents for free. Additionally I downloaded the Style and Steel outfit and bought the White Mage outfit (best one tbh) for Serah, the N7 Armour for Noel because he looks damn sexy in it, and the RotG DLC, which I find to be the only story DLC worth getting.

Oh, and I also have the Snow and Valfodr DLC, which I can't for the life of me remember how and why I got it in the first place.

Translations of XIII-2 Fragments After novel have emerged, and I just want to say that if LR gets this same treatment of having important content cut out in the game I will rage. I mean, this is the concluding title that is meant to tie all fricking loose ends. They can't do that again. I'm almost certain they will anyways. I really hope not.

Speaking as someone who did that DLC first thing...

Yes, Com!Lightning IS the only COM you'll ever use.

I agree, I feel like perhaps certain details ended up on the cutting room floor and their solution was to release these novels.

So me and Leaferian were discussing some stuff again and came up with a few theories.

I'm sure some of you guys are also bothered that there are residents in Nova Chrysalia when Hope stated himself that he has evacuated at least everyone in Academia to Bhunivelze at the ending of XIII-2. Academia is the only known settlement of humanity, and it would be odd if there would be any other settlements further away than its location and Bhunivelze's because of the long-term evacuation plan and other survival reasons. It would be odd to think as well that some people may have left Bhunivelze after the ending of XIII-2. I can't think of any valid reason on why they would, and it seems to be safer to stay inside Bhunivelze because of the Chaos outside.

So... we know that Nova Chrysalia is the result of the Visible world and Valhalla merging. Where are the dead souls resting inside Valhalla? We thought that what if the only people alive are indeed living inside Bhunivelze and the dead souls are actually the residents of Nova Chrysalia? Of course, the fact that murders and such can happen contradicts this theory but still. It's not far fetched, right?

We also talked a bit about Lumina, and Leafe came up with the theory that she might be Serah and all of the Yeuls. In the RotG DLC the Chaos Yeul had Serah's spirit in captive and claimed that she will always be with the Yeuls until the world ends and she will "end" with them. Lumina also looks to be Yeul's age as well.

It isn't farfetched at all. I think that, since there seems to be some notion of destruction for a soul beyond simple death, that may explain the fact that murders are still occurring among the residents of Nova Chrysalia.

We also talked a bit about Lumina, and Leafe came up with the theory that she might be Serah and all of the Yeuls. I would not be at all surprised if this is what happens. Good thinking, you two.

Pretty sure Square has said that it will in fact be a very short game, but that it will lend itself to multiple playthroughs. CBA to find it in the thread at the moment though...(on my phone)

What would be the point without the interchangeable tattoos. Lightning's Odin tramp stamp is obviously the most important part of the outfit.

Also some fan decided they wanted to rework Lightnings outfit just to see what it looked like

IMO it looks MUCH better. Taking away the half skirts and giving her pants makes it look a lot less busy and weird.

Nicely done, but tbh I think it's a bit too westernized to be FF.

Like most of FFVII and FFVIII? :awesome:

@concept, it looks a bit less silly than the original design imho, but also more conservative / less daring. Also, lacks flaps for showing off the physics engine in-game, :monster:

I like to think in more positive terms, such as "daring", "avant-garde", "progressive", :monster:.

I'm pretty sure you'll see this outfit as tame and bland compared to the stuff they'll come up with in 5 years' time, :monster:

"With the fate of humanity on Lightning’s shoulders, this responsibility will reveal a more emotive site to her typically po-faced exterior. If that wasn’t enough, the very people she’s saving believe she’s actually the harbinger of the apocalypse, due to facts that have become long-muddied in legend."

“The role of the Liberator is to cleanse people’s souls and lead them to a peaceful existence in a new world,” Toriyama continued. “However, some people think that this act is very much like killing them and view the Liberator as a cursed and sinister being."

- VG247 preview.

Excited again. How Lightning will convince people that she is a true savior? That could be really interesting to see.
