It is already bad the moment they said 'PG-13' instead of 'R' like it should be. If they can't even keep it to the demographic the original source material was intended for, then they have already made a failed film my friend.
That's like saying Evangelion live action can be made with a 'G'- rating and hoping for a high universal acclaim. xD
I watched 'From Hell' and thought it was an average film. Haven't watched 'Book of Eli' so I can't say anything about it.
In your own words, why wouldn't a G rated Evangelion work (not saying it's a decision I'd make, mind you)?
They toned down Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the dark and gritty comic books they were to the Saturday morning kids show and audiences didn't mind (as far as I'm aware). Same goes with all the DC and Marvel cartoons you get.
Seems a majority of you guys bear a lot of resentment against Hollywood, which I don't blame. I admit, they have brought out some terrible films, but that's not to say they haven't brought out some brilliant ones as well, past or present.
I take a neutral stand with Hollywood. I neither praise them nor do I condemn them. I have mixed feelings, all in all.
As for Akira, say what you wish about this new 'adaptation'. For me, I'm fine whether it's set in Japan, America, China, Mars...anywhere. I hold my reservations for this film for now, even as an individual who enjoyed watching the original Akira. I'm very open to changes, whether they're made or not. And when it's released, I'll go see it with neutral expectations.
Consider what Armake21 (a man who lives to rip everything to shreds, especially bad video games) said about Dragon Ball Evolution. He went in to watch the movie with no expectation and he enjoyed the film as it stood alone. I think it's best to watch these kind of films WITHOUT any expectation and just accept it as it is.
Or...you can just have fun bashing the film and nit-picking it to death. That's up to you.
Of course, feel free to disagree with anything I've said if you want. Just sharing my thoughts here.
