There is a dog in the scene, but I think you might be conflating it with the scene with the dog right before she finds Cloud in Mideel.

I have what is probably a disconcertingly accurate memory when it comes to FF7, so if you need to find another scene, well, you know who to ask lol.
Cloud's reunion with Tifa here is what completes his "SOLDIER" persona. Her memories of him and the Nibelhiem incident are transfered to his subconscious because of the Jenova cells. She quite literally completes him, in that sense. I wonder if the remake will lean in harder on how off and sickly he was acting when he first meets Tifa; I always thought she was so watchful of him in part because his behavior was worrying her.

Jenova and by extension Sephiroth, can read a person's minds, memories and emotions to fool them, trick them and pour on the mental sadism.

Cloud drags himself from Zack's final resting place to Midgar and rides a train to Sector Seven station. Blind luck or Deus Ex Jenova?
Would be interesting if alive!Zack gets involved in that part going forward. I could see Zack trying to get to Aerith with Cloud in tow, but they get separated on the train or something. Make him get painfully closer to reuniting with Aerith, but it doesn't happen to twist the knife a bit.

I always just figured it had more to do with having parasitic access to the memories in The Lifestream, and more hivemind-like stuff that comes with the cloning process.
