Okay so I was looking at the statements Tres posted and running them through various translators because I like to do that. And, I don't even really know how I did this but I thought it was pretty funny.

Looks like the Cleriths were right all along.

Ah, but you see, in the script written by the Cleriths, Cloud left the family to be with Aerith. And while leaving his family to romance a dead woman like that would normally be the act of a despicable asshole, we must remember that it is still an act of true love. And Aerith, knowing this, will take him anyway. She truly loves him in return, so much so that she's perfectly willing to accept him and his asshole ways. Unlike Tifa who, in trying to get Cloud to act like a decent, responsible and courageous adult, just wants to turn Cloud away from his true nature.

My cat just jumped onto the desk/my lap when I was reading that so I believe he's saying hello to you too.

I can hardly make this post for dog in lap. My little bros's dog still thinks she is a lapdog. And she's not. She's loving, but she heavy.

Also, I agree, Cloud did leave, because he gave up, in one sense, but not in his family or anything else, only in himself. And I bet even if Cloud believed -and he probably did- that they'd accept him even with the stigma, that they didn't need to deal with that, and he wasn't worth it anyways.

Cloud's failing here is endemic of wanting to do the right thing, but totally not thinking it through- it's an emotional but not rational response.

As I have said before. Cloud was unable to protect his friends, much like he was unable to protect Tifa as a child. On top of this, Cloud failed to qualify for SOLDIER which again reinforced his belief that he is a failure. Although he came over a massive mountain and defeated Sephiroth he is still dealing with his own self doubt...I kinda think this sentence from CoS sums it up nicely in terms of Cloud and his psychological state. Add on to that he has this worthlessness construct so he feels a burden to the family.

Whenever the disease's symptoms grew worse, I found they were all troubled and were ready to accept their deaths - You know that yourself don't you, Mr. President?"

Also, he's dealing with trauma, a lot of trauma, which can have a delayed on set as he may have been running on autopilot to save the planet. However, now that the dust has settled and life is returning to some level of normalcy he has to deal with all the feelings he put aside...causing a meltdown..

I understand why Cloud left but... I just can't figure out how Tifa just dealt with it.

I'm not entirely sure how she dealt with her home town being burnt down, seeing her father murdered with a sword through his torso, being nearly sliced in half and then finding herself in the middle of a huge city with nothing and no one for the next 4 years. But she dealt with it.

Tifa's one of those tough-as-nails women with a kind heart.

If my roommate abruptly left, I'd act more like Tifa did in AC/CoT.

I don't know, I wouldn't be as hurt as she was. A little annoyed they didn't say anything and I was now paying the bills on my own perhaps but that'd be it for a room mate... unless I thought he was a little more than just a friend.

Tifa didn't sit around crying a river when her entire village was burnt and her life turned upside down. When her mother died, she fucking went up in the mountains, a place all kids were fraid of. She isn't some weak woman who will lie down out in the forest, hugging herself and crying herself to sleep when she's got two children to take care of, one of whom is dying.

When has SE shown her as what you describe?

Tifa's not Bella, kiddo. Never has been. Her pain is great, but she hides it for the sake of the kids. You can see it in the church while talking to Marlene. Tifa's strong. She's a warrior. That doesn't mean she doesn't feel, it just means she ain't got time to bleed.

I was simply combating your statement. You’ve forgotten that you were arguing that there was a ‘four year gap’ between VII and CoD during which Denzel and Marlene were living with Cloud and Tifa.
