Man of Steel / Justice League / DC films

Just got back. Meh. It was ok. So many logic leaps. And as suspected, Lex was fucking annoying.

I thought it was good.

Starts off quite slow, but I can understand that as they're introducing the new Bruce Wayne/Batman into the mix as well as Lex. There was so much going on and I was honestly confused sometimes. But when we got to the main part, it got interesting.

I'd heard Wonder Woman was a bright spot and I quite liked her appearance, so looking forward to her film next year.

I liked that Lois had a lot more to do and we all know Supes/Clark isn't dead. :awesome:

It sets up the premise of the Justice League quite well.

I'd have given it an 8 because I enjoyed it, particularly the action scenes. However, I give it 7.5 because of the slow start and that Jesse Eisenberg was trying too hard to be Lex Luthor that he looked like a Joker wannabe for me.

BvS was just straight up boring to me. Completely dull and dreary. Only some of Batman beating up people was somewhat salvageable to me. :wacky:

I dunno, scenes just kinda "happened", it felt like there was no proper flow in the narrative. Really weird pacing and editing.

I felt the Justice League setup was a bit too "in your face". Wonder Woman literally going through video files all neatly labelled with stylish logos.
Aquaman just coming out of a hole underwater staring into the camera just long enough to make it awkward for everyone involved :monster:

That Doomsday thing looked like a generic cave troll from LotR. Superman's death seems like something that would've been better reserved for a movie that wasn't only his second outing in this universe. Feels completely unearned at this point.

Then Bruce's weird dream sequence...what the fuck was that? And then a dude coming through a portal warning him and shit. Apparently that was the Flash travelling back in time?
Buuuuut...then Bruce woke up. Did Barry Allen time travel into his fucking dream? What was going on? D:

With Zack Snyder basically at the helm of the DCEU, I don't think I'll care about Justice League.
Affleck and Irons are solid casting choices for a Batman movie though, hopefully someone makes a decent one.

Well this is a movie where no one's motivation is explained even slightly. Feels like many scenes were cut out, hoping we get an extended/directors cut that will fix this. Then again, that might not help.

Saw this earlier today.

The Director's Cut apparently has an extra 30 minutes of footage and it's been rated R. I don't really buy many films for DVD/Bluray as it is, so when it's released later this year, I'll be looking for those deleted scenes online. If anyone manages to dig them up before I find them and puts them on here, that'd be much appreciated <3

Afleck was the best part of the movie tbh.

Id love to see how shitty the script was before the rewrites. The writing isnt bad at all, but the scenario has no subtlety at all.

I'd also like to see how much influence John Peters had on the film. Seeing some of the stupid shit they were forced to put into Burton's batman, like the scene were Bruce Wayne acts crazy, I would imagine his bullshit was to blame for some of Luthor's characterisation.

Omg I'll probably like this then <3

I tend to dislike superhero movies. They're full of references I don't get because I don't believe in comic books (that aren't a continuation of the buffyverse). So if everyone hates this I'll probably love it :monster:

I enjoyed this well enough. Some of it feels a little cut up, so I'm waiting to see what the longer version comes across like.

If I had any complaint to make, it's that the movie feels like it's attempting to establish itself as a universe at a breakneck pace, and all the characters are there, but not allowed to gradually develop the way that the MCU has. Honestly, I'd've preferred to see this as two films.
Batman Vs Superman with Lex's scheme would've worked brilliantly on its own. That would've done fine to set up Lex as a villain worth his weight (and while he doesn't feel quite like typical Lex Luthor, he does a good job with the role in how it's designed). The "Dawn of Justice" bit and the conflict against Doomsday felt like it could've been held off and developed more as a standalone film built upon Lex's frustration with the former conflict not working the way he wanted. The whole legal and ethical tension works really well, but it seems like they just caved to the fear that no one would care if they didn't 1-up their "Gods fighting Gods" combat from Man of Steel (even though the nightmare sequences worked just fine for that).

tl;dr I'm curious if the longer version will make it a better single film, or if I still would've preferred BvS & DoJ to be individual pieces.

Back.

A mixed bag. Started Well, blatant product placement here and there. The pre movie ads were all about razors for some weird reason. This was basically an impossible task to live up to the hype, but they did a decent but not brilliant job.

Some very clever setup, insofar as Kryptonite is from the destroyed World Engine, which makes perfect sense. A few too many dream sequences.

Superman killing Zod? Ok. Random terrorist with a gun? Less agreeable (and he is dead, he got thrown at superspeed through a stone wall.)

Needlessly naked Lois Lane was a bit hard to take seriously.

Liked Lex Luther, an interesting take on the character.

WW also introduced well. They set her up as Catwoman and then switch rails in a way that makes sense. And the cameos from the rest of the league were nice and felt reasonable.

Ben Affleck never deserved all the hate, but I kind of did feel his Batman lacked something. Hard to describe.

Upthread I mentioned I would not be happy about the Bat killing people. That's a core tenet of the character, even moreso than Supes. If you are going to change that, don't make it casual and pointless like that car chase where he blows up, what, six, seven people without batting an eye. Especially as he'd already put a tracker on the truck, making it all pointless and unnecessary.
There are entire story arcs built around trying to make him cross that line, if you're going to do that, that should be as big as killing Zod in MoS. I think we know who the writer likes more.

Superman's Death was the only way they could have done it without making people go ballistic, for the rest of the movie I was thinking 'please don't ressurect him'. There was enough Jesus parallels already.

Engagement ring was laying it on a bit thick.

There seems to a Zack Snyder quotes floating around about how he made the characters 'grow up'. If true, I would argue 'killing more people' is not the same thing.

One thing that minor but bothered me: Bruce Wayne drives Minis. Why would a billionaire do that? I know it is a nitpick.

I made a video talking about the bigger flaws in this movie, wasn't sure if it was alright to post a link in this thread or not... could I get some feedback on that?

Saw the film last night.

Few things that bothered me.

1. Batman killing people

A reason for him to be doing this is never explained and or hinted at. At least the "batman" in Flashpoint Paradox had a reason to do so.

2. The cameo's could've been left out.

They were a waste of screen time and added nothing.

3. Ms Lane somehow knew to go and retrieve the kryptonite spear.

4. Doomsday's intelligence.

From what I've seen of Doomsday(Justice Animated series and a lil bit of the Superman: Doomsday film) he had the ability to speak and think and was only defeated by Justice Lord Superman due to lobotomy.

I keep coming across weird quotes from Zack Snyder that I think can't be real, but..

This is just weird. First, good luck finding a judge that considers blowing up moving vehicles manslaughter.

Second, that's a very inaccurate reading of the Dark Knight Returns. The relevant page is posted in the comments, it's unclear if that's a killshot or not, and it's definitely not 'between the eyes' because the sunglasses aren't broken. And he doesn't kill people all the time in it either.

Third, shooting the tank is actually worse than a clean headshot anyway, because that's going to kill even more people.

It's not like I hate the film, but if you're going to make such a big deal about killing Zod in MoS, don't ignore Batman's similar (even more strict) policy.

That's actually pretty rad, and I know exactly where it'd fit in. It gives me higher hopes for the special edition cut.

I have a laundry list of things in this movie that don't make sense, aren't explained, or are just stupid, but I wanna bring up one.

Did they even mention Diana's name? Whether Wonder Woman or Diana? Did I just miss it? Cause she's sprinkled throughout the movie, and is one of the 3 fighting the final fight of the movie. Hell, she does 10x more than Batman does in that fight. And seeing her name on an email doesn't count, if they even showed that.
