It's excellent, don't believe the nonsense :monster:

I've played for 3 hours and 30 mins (single player) and I'm loving it so far. It has some typical Bioware jank (awkward scene transitions and shit) but really we're at a point where if you want a polished game you should avoid both Bethesda and Bioware. But even having said that, there's less of that than in Inquisition. It's true that some of the animations are a little awkward but I honestly haven't seen anything too distracting yet (though I may be numb to it, having watched previews).

Also worth noting is this article from Forbes, who stress the following about the previews:

Do you remember playing the first few hours of the original Mass Effect? Combat was clunky, there was a ridiculous amount of talking and half your playtime was driving around barren planets or wandering around an empty ship. But obviously things picked up from there and it turned into a great game and a great series. That very well may not happen here, but regardless, that's the type of game this is.

This was the wrong tactic for a rollout, both in terms of press previews, but also, EA Access, if I had to guess how players will react to the game’s intro. This is one case where an early preview may backfire pretty badly with judgement being rendered too quickly.

My advice?

- Take first impressions pieces with a grain of salt, my own included.

- Remember how slow the first few hours of many huge RPGs are.

- If you play the Early Access preview, do not judge the entire game based on Eos.

- Wait for full reviews to get the best sense of the game. Mine may be late as it is mandatory for me to do all sidequests and talk to all the people.

So don't let the gun-jumpers get you down folks. What I've seen so far is a real evolution of the Mass Effect series, and I can't wait to dig in some more tomorrow. Friday hype!

The stuff that I've seen on the internet is straight fucking garbage. Even compared to previous BioWare games I've never looked at a conversation and thought, "man, this is really stilted" the way I'm seeing the stuff in Andromeda. The basic animation transitions are occasionally non-existent and their definition of emotions seems to be "character raises eyebrows and change shape of mouth". Hell, they managed to do perfectly fine with Inquisition so unless they had a completely different C-team (from what I'm reading may be the case), it can't even be their experience with Frostbite.

It doesn't help that the human character models look super flat. It was the same in Inquisition except Inquisition had vastly better lighting and didn't zoom up on people's faces a whole ton.
The first 20 minutes just kind of boggles my mind, really. Gamble says it gets heaps better after the opening, but even down to the narrative, the basic animations and the character quality, why would they make that part shoddy, especially in light of them having an Early Access program and basing everyone's first impressions on it?

Also, the line "my face is tired from dealing with everything" has to be some sort of ultra-meta inside joke :monster:

Had a fantastic time with Joe in the multiplayer last night. I'll probably finish my 10-hour trial today so I'll have a big write up for then based on my experiences. I'm torn between playing more of the SP or the Multi.

We had private matches where all 4 players were based in the UK and the issues I was experiencing initially (lag, rubberbanding) lessened after a few matches. This is massively concerning though because I tend to play with people much further away (i.e. Carlie) and I suspect the issues will be much worse under those circumstances. They were bad enough with 4 UK players, but it's still amazing fun to play.

Might be they only have a data center in the US for the beta, load testing before the real thing? Or is it p2p?

Hey that's a good shout. Like ME3 it's player-based hosting though, so I'm not sure how it works re: servers. Do they have servers/ data centres when one player is the host?

So will ask to those that have played it... How much did the bugs impact your first time playing the game?

I had issues with the game launching when I was trying to play at 42% (where it says you can start playing), but it was fine when fully downloaded.

Haven't experienced any actual bugs beyond that, but I know plenty have. So my answer is none. Carlie is dealing with a bug right now where she can't progress because she can't interact with something she should be able to.

In my 7 hours of playing strictly the multiplayer I haven't encountered any bugs or issues. The interface is shoddy but it works. The gameplay is stellar.
