Michael Bay's TMNT film...s

Had the second not existed, the series would have only benefitted. The other two at least had a plot that could be followed, and action sequences that weren't like Magic Eye puzzles.

wat

No way, the third movie was atrocious. The overall plot wasn't really that much better than the second movie, but the holes you have to go through for everything else that happens just ruin everything.

By the way, fun random fact: Tenyo is the Japanese company who first published the Magic Eye books. :monster:

Well hardy har har :monster:

I actually kind of like that sketch.

And you know, I'm really not going to be that worried about the new movie. It's not like everything we've ever loved about them before will magically vanish.

@X-SOLDIER: I can't say I paid much attention to that series. Watched some episodes, but that's about it.

How can you be fine with the third TF movie but not the second???? ffs

The second was kind of tolerable, but the third was mostly unforgivable...
This! ;)

But the third was like a kids movie - that and only that. The humor from the two first were gone. Time travel? And turtles on horses?! Noo :(

I prefer the first and second. Mostly the second because I think it was better produced and had a better script. Though the first had a lot of golden comic moments.

Wow this takes me back.

I remember the first movie the best, only because I had it on VHS. Definitely watchable. I recall thinking the second movie was all right, and the third movie sucking tremendous balls.

I actually outlined the progression of the three live-action turtles movies from "pretty awesome" to "wtf is this on my shoe?!" levels by pointing out the way the fighting was handled.

In the first, there was a nice blend of hand-to-hand combat mixed in with the Turtles actually getting to use their weapons. Sure only the blunt ones ever seemed to make contact but you could see Leo swinging his swords in arcs that would behead and bisect people if they didn't duck. There was some slapstick comedy mixed into some of the fights (like Mikey using the cymbals, or the water spitting bit from the fish tank) but it disappeared right off the screen when a fight got serious. Even the Talking Is A Free Action style mid-fight discussions between Donny and Mike would drop off when a really important fight, like the final round against Shredder, came around.

In the second... well Leo's sheathes were pretty much empty the whole movie. He just didn't have his swords with him at all. The Turtles, barring Donatello, just didn't seem to use them, period. The slapstick bits are in every single fight, right up to defeating Shredder (before he transforms into Kevin Nash) with a freakin' keytar note. Still watchable, but inferior to the first in every way (despite Shredder's bitchin' new sawblade helmet).

The third... no. Just no. Its all over the place and doesn't know wtf is going on. The Turtles seem to be trying to slash, stab, and blugeon everyone to death constantly, they use their weapons in nearly every single fight that comes around. Seems like the flick would go darker and edgier than before, maybe even go too far and forget the balance the first flick had. And in some ways it does... but it manages to throw just as much slapstick into the fights as two had only its not nearly as funny (do note that this could be that I was just older). Instead of the nice balance of serious and cartoonish violence the first movie had... it comes off as a wee bit schizophrenic in practice, like it never knows how seriously to take any given moment.

Overall, the plots of the three films match the same analysis I gave their fighting there. The first one balances funny and sad and serious very well, the second puts more emphasis on the funny but doesn't totally lose it, and the third... is a bit schizophrenic and makes very little sense overall (plus too much navel-gazing by Raphael and Michelangelo).

Wait, are you talking about TF or Turtles? Tres and I were talking about the Transformers movies. :P

But that being said, I enjoyed the first two Turtles movies very much. But you guys are right, the third was aweful. I remember seeing it in the theater and feeling really awkward when Raph (was it Raph or Leo?) gave that one kid CPR.

And that was pretty much the whole movie, just me feeling awkward.

And then the final controntation with the villain got weird. Shredder at least was menacing and gave them more of a fight. Even as a kid I loved stuff like that.

Correction, Shredder handed them their hard-shelled asses. They landed exactly one attack the entire fight, and it was a shallow gash on the upper shoulder. The only reason they survived that fight was Splinter showing up to bail them out :monster:

You'll notice in the sequel, they never actually fight Shredder directly. They do stupid shit like blowing him out a window with a keytar in his normal form and go into "run like fuck!" mode for Super Shredder.

I can imagine her playing Shredders daughter, but not April. Though I'd rather see someone Asian like the girl from Kill Bill in that role.

Ok, lemme throw this out there.

I don't necessarily hate Megan Fox, though I don't really like her either. I'm pretty neutral about her in general, actually. I DO rather dislike her & how she's been portrayed in Michael Bay's stuff though. I think that she was a really weak point in Transformers, but not necessarily because of her acting, but because of how her character was made/exploited/etc. I'm thinking that the farther we get away from that, the better off this has of a chance of not being absolute shit - and there is certainly a chance of this movie not being shit - but news like this make me fear for the worst.
