- Shitton of battle damage & environmental effects.
- Mokap isn't a character in MKX.
- End of Story Mode unlocks a character.
- Story will be comparable to the length of the one in MK9.

Additional note: In his possessed costume, Sub-Zero's mask looks a lot more like the one that Bi-Han / Noob Saibot use, and doesn't look like the one that Kuan Liang / Cyber-Sub Zero had. Still kinda hopeful that we get some things with the original Sub-Zero this time around.

Ermac's Second Fatality.

Warning:

Holy shit. This is INSANELY gory.

Seriously.

It tops Scorpion's face-slicing Fatality by… a LOT.

I like both. Wouldn't say it's any crazier than Scorption's though :monster:

I don't really get the issue with the gore in this series. Sure, everyone is different, and finds different things revolting, but to me it is so fake looking. Doesn't even approach uncanny valley. When it becomes like an irl execution video, then I will probably look the other way :P. Then again, I don't think the Mortal Kombat developers would attempt to do something like that, even if they could. I think there are pivotal comedic and cartoonish elements to all the fatalities that if removed would then raise questions about the developers mental states :P.

I get squeamish only when things are bending the way they're not supposed to be, even in animation, it just always seems to look real. My favourite example is when Bart falls down the stairs and breaks his arm in an old Simpson's episode. That's far more graphic than anything I've seen in Mortal Kombat :P.

Is this one of those add-on things you got to pay for? People should not buy things that should be a part of the game itself. It just encourages businesses to do these kinds of money-grabbing things, and in 10 years time, it is just going to be more ridiculous than it already is.

Yes, it's an add-on. The Kombat Pack is one of those - sign up for it and get everything that comes out for it type of deal that a lot of games do to help mitigate against used games not contributing to the developers at all. This is one of the things that they're making as extras and wasn't ever designed to be a part of the main game. The game releases in 25 days, and none of those characters are on disk, or are even completed yet (they specifically mentioned that Jason's character is still in the early stages of being made in the last Kombat Kast). There's no reason to delay release for the development of extra characters like this, and of all of the types of DLC-type mechanics, this is one that I most approve of. Shadow of Mordor had one, but as I was only interested in getting one piece of their DLC, I just got that, and didn't bother with the rest. MKX is one of those games where it'll probably just be worth getting everything that ever comes out for it, so I'll probably go for this.

Gotta love that day 1 on disc dlc that is paygated or pre-order gated in a age where Pre-orders are like 99% unnecessary outside of obscure import games.

Its a bunch of shit and blows my mind that people buy into it and have no issue at all what so ever.

edit: Ninja'd

I can believe Jason and the Predator etc. are late additions and definitely not on disc. I won't believe NRS for a second if they say Goro hasn't been completed long before the game hit the disc print stage lol. It's scummy that they put one of the most iconic villains of all time behind a pre-order or dlc gate. Lets be honest he's not gonna be free to people who don't go for an unnecessary pre-order.

sign up for it and get everything that comes out for it type of deal that a lot of games do to help mitigate against used games not contributing to the developers at all.

Pre-order crap is more for the stores like Gamestop etc. more than it is for the developers tbh.

edit:

Not everything I said here is 100% aimed at NRS or MKX btw more just an annoyed rant at the state of pre-order and cash grab DLC culture in the game industry currently and how lame it is that NRS is accommodating it to a certain degree.

Day 1 DLC is a conundrum because it usually comes about as content that can't be certified before the full retail version is done. I don't like on-disk DLC, but most cases of actual on-disk DLC are only files that form part of the actual DLC as a whole, and are indicative of that conundrum.
That said, there are obviously the egregious cases that are completely loaded on-disk, which is bullshit.

Personally, I don't mind pre-order DLC as a method of incentivising pre-orders. It rewards fans who are really into what they see. That said, I'm not entirely okay with fighting games releasing their meta piecemeal (though I think Killer Instinct does this really well, so there are ways in which that business model can work).
At the end of the day, as long as the preorder bonuses are available as content later for those who didn't preorder, I think it's alright. But occasionally that doesn't happen, which is nonsense.

Honestly, I think I actually enjoy the Brutalities more than the regular Fatalities (amongst many, many other improvements in presentation since the previous game). In terms of design, a Fatality is gory, bloody and expectedly outlandish execution. The players sit through it at the end of the match after "Finish Him", and go, "yeah that was pretty crazy awesome with all his shit flying apart".

Brutalities just *happen* upon landing a finishing special and doesn't even disturb the pace of the match. The payoff is immediate and sometimes, even unexpected. Much better shock value in that regard, I think.

Still on the fense for X. I really like to watch the FGC and how the pros take a game to its mechanical and skill ceiling.. And honestly 9 and Injustice have been by far the most boring fighting games to see and play at the high end of competitive play in recent years.

This one doesn't look like it's going to change that and honestly it's going to be a real shame to see another NRS game take up an EVO slot or worse a broadcasted EVO slot. Hopefully I'm wrong this time..

edit:

Thats not to say I don't think this wont be a fun game to pick up and play casually with friends though.

Also just realized I made almost this exact same post almost a year ago lol

This is why I was SO glad that the Brutalities aren't just another combo-enter at the end of combat. The fatalities are great, and classic Mortal Kombat and I love them, but the Brutalities add in the more competitive "achieve X during combat" or "end with X move" that the audience won't always see coming and, since it doesn't end with the FINISH HIM!!! announcement that you're so used to hearing as the "it's over" indicator that they're just spectacular and surprising.

(Was a part of the stream, but that standalone wasn't, so thanks)

I can't speak to the competitive gameplay, as I don't know much about it, and I've never really been into the competitive fighting game scene, so.... :awesome:

Really I just like the general style and gameplay, in addition to the fact that they do a damn good storymode, and I think that this one'll be even better.

I think the presentation, so far, is far better than previous Netherrealm games. The actions and animations are simply snappier and have better pacing, and a (relatively) tight roster with great variations in movesets means that there's a lot of potential there.

Of course, it's a good idea to keep a finger on the FGC pulse on release, to see which movesets for which characters become dominant, but there's already a great deal of variety so it's a lot more promising than previous titles.

the tower system seems really neat. Especially since it can let you try out dlc characters without having bought the dlc.
