The site's name will be the same, just they are using different peeps for service, that's all.

Yeah, if everything's right, nothing will change on your side of the internets. The only thing I worry about is that we might get errors from the server (i.e. exceeding CPU usage on the server) when the site gets more busy. But we'll see what happens.

I'll properly set up a donation system once the move is done, fgj.

In regards to the stuff you took down that sucked up too much bandwidth before, do you still have them saved somewhere on your computer Cthulhu? Because some of the scans that were up I didn't have saved on mine. It'd be a shame to lose them.

Yup, I have 'em all and if I'm right they're already uploaded to the new server.

For great justice, of course, else there'd be no point in doing it.

it has to be transferred from some German organization to Bluehost's own registrar), which can take up to seven days (from last week, so it'll probably happen somewhere this week).
Wow I've never heard of domains taking that long to transfer. I thought they usually did it within a couple days.

Also be careful with Bluehost as they have a very low CPU quota. At least a lot of sites I visit on bluehost every so often get a message that says their CPU quota was used up. It probably shouldn't be a problem here though unless the forums start to get super busy.

So will the change happen sometime now and 7days?

I think we should rent an internet turtle and allow it to pull the info coming into the site by rope and wagon. That would be amazing.

And reliable, :monster:.

The change will probably happen between now and this Saturday, which will be seven days after the move was set into motion, I think.

As for Bluehost's CPU quota, I've heard of that too, and I fear it greatly :/. I hope we'll be able to manage for a while though.

The forum software probably won't help, I'm seeing that it takes 21 queries just to display a forum thread, which is a lot considering it could, theoretically, be done in one.

For the record, the domain's already updated for me, at least for the foramz - haven't checked the main site yet.

o rly? That's interesting, :monster:.

I've did some more research on the matter, and our current approach would work, but it could result in long transfer times for some people (i.e. person A getting the new site right away, person B having to wait a few days). It would've been possible to keep the domain at the old registrar and just have it point to the new host, or to change the nameservers and only then initiate the domain move, which in both cases would result in less confusion / downtime, but it's a tad too late for that. Oh well, guess that's something to remember.

Just for curiosity though, how is it you can poast here then now? Using the IP address or something?

Awesome, the move is done, ^_^. As can be read on the frontpage, there was a bit of a problem with the forums (as in, there was just a big white screen after re-uploading the database), but after a reinstall of the forums (and the addons), that was fixxed as well.

If there's any other problems, let me know. If all goes well, you wouldn't even have to re-login again. I didn't, :monster:.

On another note, the frontpage software has been updated to Wordpress 2.7, most changes seem to be in the admin / post window thingy. It'll take some getting used to, that's for sure :monster:.

I'm experiencing some weirdness. Either I receive email updates to threads but can't see the posts in the actual thread, or I can see new posts but I'm not getting notifications.

I had a post deleted, my avatar reset, and an alert to an old PM. Other than that, I think everything's okay.

lolz, I had everything set up yesterday afternoon, and when I came back, everything was back to the way it was before the move. Probably some DNS weirdness (which probably also explains Isabella's problem), where the domain temporarily referred back to the old host.

But that's sorted or should sort itself out as the domain change propagates through the DNS servers. I see there's already two pages of new posts again, so I guess it's all well for most peoples now.

Anyone get any errors (i.e. excess CPU usage) yet? Please let me know as soon as that happens, 'cause then we'll have to do some optimizations in the frontpage / forum software.

I should have posted this earlier :monster:

The other day I got a BlueHost message about CPU over-usage? or something about the CPU. The site was down for several minutes, but after that it worked fine.

It was ealier this week, about Monday? I don't remember how many users were online, but it wasn't the highest it's ever been or anything. Around 10-15, I think.
