Is there a rule that only one expedition can leave per day? I mean let's say that the returners (or at least the ones who can be trusted 
) wanted to form a party on their own then couldn't we dig on the same day as the other party? Flint said that at least three people would have to wait an extra day but there's no mention on the rules that only one group of miners can leave on each day.

Yes, you were only incapacitated for one day.
I didn't explicitly mention it in the rules, but it was my intention that everybody who wants to form a party on a particular day will enter the mines together. Things might get too complicated otherwise. Imagine if we've got players A, B, C and D, and they say the following things:Is there a rule that only one expedition can leave per day? A: I want to go with B and C
B: I want to go with C and D
C: I want to go with B
D: I don't care
Who do I put together? There aren't enough people to form two parties, so it would be unfair to leave anyone behind, but nobody has actually said they want to go with A, and only one player has said they want to go with D.
So, just to confirm, if you want to be in a specific party, you will need to arrange for everyone to enter the mines at the same time on a separate day. You can PM them, of course, and you can PM me your decision if you don't want everyone else to know what you're planning.

Thanks. What's King of the Hill? Is it that game where four people stand at the side of the road drinking beer?
King of the hill is one of those games they list off when telling you what you can't do in the schoolyard. The point is to stay on the hill as long as you can while keeping everyone else from taking your place. I think Halo had a multiplayer mode where your score was based on how long you can remain in the designated zone without dying. As a forum game, it basically amounted to coming up with various ways to claim the hill from whoever last had it.

Doran Martell suggested calling it "The Returners" again, and nobody objected, even though the party composition has changed.

No, every expedition is in its own mine shaft, so those four shards your party left behind will be claimed by whomever escapes the mine first, and the shards dropped by previous parties getting knocked out are lost forever. You might want to have another look at the rules in my opening post.

DAY 9
Bulletin board: Starling didn't indicate an action today. Unlike when this happened before with The Engineer (see here), I cannot assume Starling would want to dig today, since there are unclaimed shards available to an escaping player. I sent her a private message half an hour ago asking if she wanted to dig and she did not respond, despite being on TLS and viewing this thread, so I'm forced to evacuate her from the mines. She gets to keep the three shards she found yesterday.
I also noticed that I made a slight mistake yesterday. The Returners' party size was 7, but I thought it was 6 and calculated their shard haul correspondingly. This means they missed out on either one or two shards. Random.org told me to add two , bringing their total up from 22 to 24. That means everyone got three shards and three were left over. With Starling leaving the party, however, its size has gone back to six today.
The Engineer, JasonTandro and Octo re-entered the mines as Avalanche - unless you want a new name?

Further to my previous post, it turns out that Starling had posted a picture of a Pokémon Stadium digging minigame, which I hadn't realised. I offered to put her back in The Returners but she said she's fine with how it turned out.
