This year's 19th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine will reveal more information on Monday about the upcoming Boruto -Naruto the Movie- film.

The film will open in Japan on August 7. Orignal Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto is credited with the original work, script, character design, and as the chief production supervisor for the film. Hiroyuki Yamashita (Naruto Shippūden episode director, Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie animation director) will direct the film and Ukyō Kodachi (Chaos Dragon, Neppu Kairiku Bushi Road) is collaborating with Kishimoto on the script.

The 20th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump will reveal the voice cast for Boruto (Bolt) and Sarada (Salad) when it ships on April 13.

The 19th issue will also feature a special illustrated poster Kishimoto drew for the film. The tagline on the poster says "Watch me crappy old man!"

The description for Bolt states, "from his facial expression you can tell that he has a mischievous and cheeky personality. He has two whisker lines on each cheek."

The description for Salad states, "Her cold eyes are her special feature. She wears clothes with the Uchiha family crest."

Kishimoto will launch Naruto Gaiden: Nanadaime Hokage to Akairo no Hanatsuzuki (Naruto Spinoff: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring Month), the Naruto spinoff manga mini-series, on April 27 in the combined 22nd/23rd issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.

Boruto -Naruto the Movie-, the upcoming film sequel to the Naruto manga and The Last -Naruto the Movie-, will tell the story of Boruto (Bolt), Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyūga's son who appeared in the 700th and final chapter of the manga. Kishimoto noted, "I conceived a story in which Boruto and [Sasuke's daughter] Sarada appears. Sasuke and Sakura also appear." He also conceived of Boruto's special fighting move.

The main Naruto manga by Masashi Kishimoto ended in Weekly Shonen Jump on November 10 after 15 years of serialization. However, the magazine had revealed then that "a newly budding Konoha story" would begin this spring. An art exhibition and a stage play are also debuting this spring.

I was still anime watching at the start of the exams, so my experience rereading them was always after knowing how it goes down, so I don't know your pain.

Additionally, here's the first movie teaser:

The manga starts next week!

What the actual ****. I participated in arguments about sasuke salad when 700 came out. Never thought Kishimoto would actually go there. Sakura crapped on so much.

I have a doubt. Can Boruto use Byakugan? Or he's capped at a normal ninja without any of his parent's powers?

I'd been wondering if Sadara was Karin's daughter ever since we saw she had glasses... Sasuke leaving has got to be hard on Sakura, although that doesn't excuse her for cracking in front of Sadara.

Love how the fact that Naruto uses his clones to play with his son actually means something to Boruto, as does that fact that his dad don't "cheat" by using his sennin powers.

But yey! it's back! It's back, it's back it's back!!! :joy:

hahaha the pairing wars are having a meltdown, and all I can do is laugh.

I said it before somewhere else, but as a Sakura fan, the idea that she's actually raising Karin's kid and is raising it as a single mom is actually interesting than what I thought he gave us in 700. It's probably not going to be Karin's, but still, the fact that he acknowledged it gives all the SasuKarin griefers a lot of ammunition either way.

He was interviewed about it, and he literally said he didn't give then the byakugan because he forgot. He said he might give them another kid that has one later on.

Do you have a link ta that interview by chance?

Also, I'm hoping that this little arc will give up some of the follow-up post-700 that we didn't get with groups like Taka.

I'm not doubting anyone but I find it hard to believe Kishi would "forget" about it... The man who plans stuff hundreds of chapters ahead forgot about it? Yeah right...

He has ideas that he takes hundreds of chapters before finally getting around to implementing. There's a difference.

I've hunted around the internets for the last half hour, and this is all I've found insofar as a source is concerned, and it looks like it's just tacked on at the end of a HUGE list of translations about all of the anti-The Last nonsense that the shipping folks were throwing around in lack of any real information: http://unburntmhysa.tumblr.com/post/104518460857/naruto-the-last-japanese-fans-reactions

Unlike the rest of the information in this clusterfuck of a post, that has a bunch of C&P'd interview images and links, the bit about Kishimoto forgetting Byakugan mentions that it's from "the Greeting" but for the life of me, I can't find what greeting they're referring to so that I can double check it myself.

Sooooo....?

Thank you!!!

So the relevant bit is Kishimoto's quote here:
「やろうと思ってたけど、忘れてました(笑)。(子どもが)3人になれば…。でも、そうなるといろいろ複雑になりそうで…」と苦笑していた。

To which the translator's notes:

The tone of Kishimoto laughing here is more on the side of joking about correcting his oversight of how Boruto and Himawari didn't have the byakugan on accident. (And implies that they'd need a new kid for that :P) I think the "it's complicated" part of his answer refers more likely to how the bloodline limit (/genetics work) for why the first two kids didn't win the genetic lottery of the byakugan... but how this hypothetical third child will. He would need to explain it~

That all seems like an accurate assessment of his quote, so yeah. :monster:

Still funny, but not as silly as Naruto knowing Kage Bushin as a child in The Last, or Raikage having his arm back (which was apparently fixed in the volume release but there's a lot of art errors in towards the end iirc), or why his kids have whiskers even though Kishimoto once said it was because of the Kyuubi chakra in the womb or something.

Actually, I can see them having left over kyuubi chakra. If nothing else, Baruto's a brat I'd like to see less of but I'd wouldn't mind Himawari going Kyuubi.

That said, I choose to believe he did forget because it makes me laugh, and he'll probably retcon something anyway.

Art errors like that happen a lot more than people know with the deadlines and things that the manga artists work under.

I think that the fact that Boruto & Himawari only have two whiskers are a mark that that aspect of Kurama's chakra being infused with Naruto's still transferred to his kids, but less completely since they're primarily gestating in a non-9-Tails-infused womb, but they're still carrying some aspect of his chakra.

That being said, it seems like the tradition of Hyuga's bloodline traditions with the branch clans being subordinate and marked aren't being continued. Aside from that bit of knowledge about their clan, we actually know very little about how that trait is passed from one generation to the next - other than the fact that it had been incredibly strictly managed. Even The Last doesn't really provide a huge amount of insight about that (and it's a whole movie about the Byakugan). We don't know anything about Hiashi or Hizashi's wives, or how frequently the kids obtain the trait. I'm sure that there's real complicated background to it that can be used to explain it even if it was just a factor that was overlooked when designing them.

Am I the only one not terribly excited about the new manga?

Also, has Kishimoto said whether he intends it to run indefinitely or if he has a shorter plan in place this time?

It's a mini series, iirc. And I'm not huge in it, but Naruto lost me at the end of the Pein invasion arc.

The anime might go on since it's a cash cow, who knows. But I feel like Kishimoto has been wanting to start a new series for awhile, he has a couple of one shots under him.
