I find it very ironic that without his mask, Kakashi looks like your average good looking shounen hero... which is say that he wouldn't stand out without it. With it though, he's very iconic, which is probably the point.

Viz is officially going to be releasing the Guidebook and all of the Gaiden books in English.

Super pleased about this.

Also, handy event timeline for said Gaiden books:

• Naruto Manga Chapter 699.
• Kakashi’s Story takes place a few months after 699. It focuses on an incident in the Land of Waves.
• Sasuke leaves the Hidden Leaf Village shortly after Kakashi’s Story.
• Shikamaru’s Story takes place two years after 699. It focuses on his battle with a genjutsu user.
• The Last Naruto the Movie takes place around the same time as Shikamaru’s Story, two years after 699.

New chapter. I'm really intrigued to see where all of this goes. It isn't at all taking the sort of direction that I'd've guessed, but it does look to be working to definitively tie up all of the little loose ends that didn't get smoothly wrapped up in the finale of the main manga, while building up the new generation's characters at the same time.

The fact that Naruto rushed off and didn't take a second to meet up with Bolt is interesting and makes me wonder about why he wouldn't've just used a jutsu to show up or leave behind a clone to grab the lunch and then leave afterwards, unless it's a) just a character development plot device or b) if he really thinks that he'll need all the chakra energy that he has while still needing to maintain his existing clones doing their duties within the city as-is, because of the threat that he's going out to deal with.

Either way, as Hokage it's interesting to see him passively track people with Sage Mode, and moreso that he's already aware of who the Sharingan user is, and due to that, he'll likely be our method of quickly delivering the complexities of the plot as well as explaining Sasuke's continued absence from the village over the next little bit. One of the things I really like is how Kishimoto has avoided having everyone's kids be good friends with each other. 'Cause I really didn't see Sadara being good friends with Chouji's daughter as opposed to Naruto's...

I love seeing Naruto as Hokage and how differently mature but ridiculous and similar he still is. I also like that Kurama's dialogue insinuates that he hasn't really done any fighting probably since The Last or at least in quite some time. Also him using "seventh" which is "Nana" as a nickname is adorable.

I was not expecting that sudden development at the end to take the turn that it did. Oh man. I can't even imagine how this'll end up, but I hope that the next chapter doesn't have it go too dark for her sake. (Although the fact that the Boruto movie centers around him wanting to surpass his father by making Sasuke be his mentor means that I think things'll work out, since this Gaiden is setting up bits for that film: http://godlyhades.tumblr.com/post/119426764774/sasuke-boruto-full-translation ). Also, the fact that she activated her Sharingan out of love for her dad is quite poignant.

Also, the little blob with the Space-time Ninjutsu really does reinforce my confidence about my earlier theory about Obito's Sharing an collection falling into Obito's hands. I am curious about Shin's Mangekyo though. That makes things immediately more dangerous.

I like that he's out in the wilderness trying to protect everyone and probably paying penance for how he was previously, and you can tell that Naruto just gets mission-type communications from him, and he assumes that he talks to his own family regularly, but he just doesn't. (Not that I have any idea about why, but still). His reaction is pretty on-point for what he'd be expecting, but it is just a gigantic mess. I really hope he makes up for it.

So, I'm liking this a lot more than I thought I would. The plot seems to be clipping along at a good pace, and I'm genuinely interested in how things will play out.

I think that it gives a lot more interesting things to look at developmentally. I am curious about the possibility of Naruto & Hinata having a Byakugan user child though, but that's more from a lore-interested standpoint. I do think that Sarada is absolutely the best character as an intro-point for the newer generation, and linking in to all the loose threads left by the main series.

Linking in some threads that're timeline related that I hadn't thought about. It looks like a proper Team 7 reunion will be happening soon.

Also, it's awesome watching them protect the new generation with relative ease because of how powerful they are. This is especially true with their little Kage summit and trying to keep peace and calm I'm the post-war environment.

I wouldn't call an existential revelation like that being dramatic by any measure. That being said, I knew this reveal was coming from panel 1. Sakura talking about being a parent being more than just genes was the key. Sarada is just as much Sakura's daughter as she is Karin's genetic offspring. It's also cool 'cause she's an Uchiha/Uzumaki.

But yeah. Nice to see Orochimaru & Taka's threads being wrapped up as well as seeing Yamato. I expect to see Kabuto before this is over, what with him coming from an orphanage and all and having his story unconcluded, it's only natural.
