As for why some information on reports is released, sometimes, Staff needs to reveal certain details of reports in order to determine how widespread an issue is, especially when we are told that more people beyond the person who reported a particular post also had their issues with it but would not come forward and no names were revealed.

I'm confused, Zee. Do you want things kept private, in which case a specific and thus smaller group of people would be preferred when inquiries into a report and how widespread feelings become necessary? Or do you prefer the "handy dandy" feedback section (which didn't exist until very recently, or am I mistaken) be used and thus give the whole forum a shot at guessing what the mod is talking about?

Sorry for the confusion, but putting that last post together with others that have been made in this thread, they look rather contradictory.

having a staff feedback section viewable to only members makes sense since that stuff only applies to members

the option for private threads seems kinda pointless since it takes around the same amount of time for mods to respond either way but hey w/e

however what the fuck is the point of saying you need to reveal details about a report beyond the specific person who had the grievance to see if the issue is widespread yet refusing to utilize the public option we have to see if that's the case

Alright. First, I'd like to issue a repeat of what I said before a few pages ago. A LOT has been said between now and then, so I'd like to reiterate;

I'm one of the biggest guys on transparency, but I'm not sure if 100% transparency is a good idea. Keep in mind that not everyone who views/vists here are devoted do gooder longtime members such as yourselves. There were a ton of situations in the past that required 'patient privacy' and a subtle hand that wouldn't be possible if every dickwad was able to see it, for example, the guy back in the day who kept posting private pictures of another member.

Also, when I was on Staff, I used the staff section to fine tune ideas and projects into a finished form before I went public with them. Like a cloistered artist, I hate the idea of letting anyone in on an idea of mine that isn't perfect.

Pretty much any organization with people in charge has some hidden section where conflicts can be handled privately and the gears of the machine can be oiled. While I'm big on transparency, the idea that any secrecy of any kind is The Man trying to get you is a little paranoid!

As for the idea proposed; it's fucking unneccessary, but not for the reasons some of you may think. Honestly, it's not unnecessary because of the issue of secrecy (which I'll address in a bit), but its more because of its applying one of those Looney Toons contraptions to do something as simple as fix a light switch; this is the only community I've ever been to where solving a problem is any more complicated than "Report post/mod post". The issue here is having a dedicated, present, competent Staff. We have competent individuals, but as a team we suck.

Issue two, as I said before, it's not because of secrecy. Like I've said, I've been a part of Staff since like day one, bros (actually, literally day one) and it's never been a secret society ever. Like ever. That's why I could never agree with that complaint, because the Staff forum and all that jazz has usually been a very boring place. Like, CSPAN boring. Any exceptions to that have been isolated at best. The issue of the Staff forum being invisible is a necessity, to put together projects, to resolve sensitive, confedential issues, and generally as a safeguard against assholes who don't want the best for the community, and yes, that's happpened before.

Like I said before, the issue isn't secrecy, but incompetence and presence.

If you disagree, say why. If you agree, don't just thank it, say why and chime in as well. I'm at sea and TECHNICALLY at work so I mean I kinda put a lot of effort in writing this up!

I usually find drunk posts funny but there is a time and a place for everything, and a serious thread discussing serious issues isn't the place for this. Any hope that folks can maybe wait to post in here until they're sober? I dunno about everyone else but I at least would appreciate it, the thread will be here tomorrow.

Now, Mog: You make an excellent point. My only experience with forum moderating was on a play by post RPG forum, so I don't pretend to know exactly how things work for you guys. But I do know that a private place for the mods to discuss whatever they need to do (be it a sensitive situation or just a project that you're not ready to reveal yet) is useful enough to be called essential.

I feel like 90% of this thread is revolving around some bad history between Zee(+some other members) and Ryu(+some mods). And that nothing is going to be resolved until this problem is addressed and resolved itself.

It's uncomfortable to watch as an outsider because its like I'm in the middle of a fight I don't understand. Half of the requests are being ignored and half of the decent suggestions to the forums are being attacked just because of who posted it.

I don't want this devolve into drama, but it's really frustrating to watch this discussion run around in circles, with occasional fire fights, and all the good posts just die. I'm selfish and unconfrontational: I don't want to take sides on this issue because I really like Zee and looney is one of my favorite people on this forum- and I do have respect for Ryu for being one of the hardest workers on side projects.

I don't know if you got to take this to msn, or the pm's, or have a thread titled LETS FIX THIS RYU-ZEE THING, but it needs to be solved because this forum has split itself on this issue and is making everything a thousand times harder.

Also everything Mog said is gold.

1) wow because a jokes shared by two close friends is the same as a mod making a rape joke to someone he barely knows and was called out before on making female members uncomfortable??????? ok

2) staff response mocking someone for airing a grievance like this when several forum members feel similarly doesn't exactly inspire confidence in their methods which is a prime concern for forum members

I think if a user gets a warning that they disagree with, and they want to take it up with staff, having a private chat with that member is a great idea... in fact I like it a lot... OR if staff wants to talk to a certain member about their behavior or something... awesome... I Love it..

Is it because it's part of the forum and not PMs?... well threads can be a bit easier to sort through when having a conversation with several people. Is there like a private thread mod you can install or something? That might be useful

Sorry I'm typing on my phone at 7am here. In this instance it's legit that staff see the pm in question, if you say x member is harassing me then they have a duty to look at the evidence no? Including private interaction between said members, otherwise people could just make shit up. Not like there doing it for the fun of it.

Honestly... no... if someone says "So and so is bothering me though PM" they should be asked to forward the PMe, if they deleted them you say, "Too bad" then...

It's going through the whole PM database that I have a problem with... that doesn't seem right but maybe it's just me. The whole issue with Kobato was a nasty one anyway
