As in, there's nothing that is pro-Tifa, and the default game script takes you down the Aerith date path; there's also Gongaga, which is a big Aerith-y deal.

Doesn't the script that was listed in some official book go down the Tifa "path" with things leaning towards her and her date, not the Aerith one?

If you mean the Memorial Album, yes, tis very pro Cloti. It shows her date first and only features the High Affection version of the Highwind scene. And it was supervised by Nomura... but they spelled a ton of things wrong in English. Earith, Lifestreem, Nibelherm.... so some people might not think it's reliable. Also a lot of optional scenes weren't included like Lucrecia's Cave... so I take the low affection version not being in their with a grain of salt.

What I mean is that unless you put in the effort, the game sort of sticks you with Aerith on the date, you know?

... no?

I didn't put effort into it the first time and I got Tifa's date O_o

That was kind of a Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith deal. <XD I wouldn't say that part of the game is focused on Aerith, especially since you don't have to have her in your party at that point. And you don't have to have Tifa either. I guess it's not really a Cloud thing since he doesn't remember shit about that at that point.

So assuming you use Tifa and Aerith at that point, it's central focus is probably... Zack more than anything, lol.

This I disagree with too. I saw lots of 'pro Tifa' parts but I'm not sure when exactly you're talking about... when Aerith ran off, and leading up to finding her or just the first disc in general. XD As for the date, I always saw that as making sense plot wise.

Also, this:

Actually this video is kind of accurate. That is ALL that happens. They don't explode but... :awesome: I also find it interesting that in Aerith's date scene you do have negative/mean options, however in Tifa's you get no such options.

@Quex:
Yeah when I first played I got the Tifa date and was like... I thought I was supposed to take Aerith on a date? IN YOUR FACE AERITH  /I didn't like her back then. xD/

In fact in all the times I've played the game, I've never gotten Aerith's date XD

If you treat them both equally, you typically end up with Aerith on the date, no?

It wasn't until I joined my first forum (LOL FFW) that I learned you could take Tifa, and how to do so. If the best word to describe your relationship with both of them is "tepid" (as in, you're not particularly rude or nice to either of them), you usually get Aerith.

Seriously. Like I said, I always liked Tifa better and was always like HNNNGH HOW YOU DOIN' BABE and took Aerith =/

But I guess playing the first disc of the game about eleven times doesn't count for much anymore. :sigh:

Ed: In the now ~15 times I've played the game, I've gotten Tifa's date and Barret's once each, and Aerith's every single other time. =/

The game IS geared for the Aerith date to be easiest to get. Aerith's affection tends to get more "points" than Tifa's for similar actions. However, it's still pretty easy to end up with Tifa if you ALWAYS have her in your party and NEVER use Aerith. Still though, given her death, going on the date with her is more "dramatic" and she is given an "advantage" in that whole affection points thing. (My very first playthrough I got Aerith, in every one since then, even when not making a concerted effort, I've gotten Tifa except for the one I'm going through right now)

Though I've heard that it is possible to go on the date with Aerith AND have the high affection Highwind scene. If this is true, I would say that option makes the most canonical sense.

I have NEVER seen the Don choose Aerith. I imagined it happens if you get SOME of the optional accouterments, but I have begun to wonder if its even possible.

He does find Zack's name familiar, but that's only if you don't have Tifa or Aerith in the party, iirc. I guess their reactions distract him otherwise. So...yeah, since it can change so much, seems like it's more in there for highlighting Zack's absence than focusing on one other character.

I got the Tifa date scene my first time through, too. I was nice to both of them, but Tifa was my fave so I was a *little* nicer to her. And I always included her in my party because I liked her fighting style and limit breaks.

But even though I like Tifa a little bit more than Aerith, and C/T a lot more than C/A, I prefer the Aerith date scene. It seems way more likely at that point in the game that Aerith would be the one to invite Cloud out, and Aerith's lines are more important than Tifa's(I don't think she reveals anything we didn't already find out in other scenes).

Aerith starts off with the most points at the time you meet her. Most people think it's to give her an advantage, but it actually seems more likely considering the numbers that it's to put her on an even playing field with Tifa because before you ever get to start with Aerith you can have Tifa either equal or beating her can't remember which. EDIT: Tifa can be at 6+ points higher than Aerith before you fall into the church which is when you can start changing Aerith's numbers.

Then after that, it's pretty even and all depends on your preference.

Also, I got the Barret date first, and Tifa's second. Never legitimately got Aerith's date.

Completely possible. All you need is a Tifa AV of 50+ and it will definitely happen.

And yeah, playing through normally, favoring neither girl (Alternate between niceness to them, and such) and you can actually have Aerith at several points down. Taking her on the Dyne quest can often be the odd tipping point to make her the date.

From earlier in the thread, Cloud could very well have been attracted to Aerith, but that's a far cry from romantic love, much less a romantic love that 'burns' two years after. That's the leap I think is entirely unsubstantiated, and I'd ask those people who want to say there was romance there, even if it is a lesser form, where the evidence of this serious romantic thought comes from. Even without Cait Sith's unreliability or the metacontext of setting the player up for Aerith's forthcoming demise, for example, Cloud's complete nonplussed reaction to his prediction doesn't speak well as to his opinion of the things foretold.

And before we go down that path again, no, I'm not 'against' this idea. I simply don't think the idea has been properly supported yet.

I've never gotten Aerith's date XD... but even if Aerith's date is waaay easier to et, this is why:

As a motif for them, Tifa is “the childhood friend who’s been with you since nursery school”, and Aerith is “the girl who transfers school mid-term and quickly leaves for another school.” Since she doesn’t have many scenes, you’ve got to make it so that the transfer student has a big impact. That was what I thought.

^ This is what I thought as an answer to the argument that Aerith had to die for Tifa to get the spotlight. It's backwards: Aerith HAD to take the spotlight because she was to die early in the game. :monster: I think this also explains my personal distaste towards Aerith: I found her intrusive and the emotional aspect of her story forced. It's like the creators were screaming down my ear: "SEE THIS GIRL??? LIKE HER!!!!!! PAY ATTENTION TO HER!!!!! FEEL EMOTIONAL ABOUT HER!!!!!!!" to which I answered with "HELL, NO! YOU CANNOT FORCE MY TASTES AND PREFERENCES, BITCH!" and it went downhill from there. Maybe if her story was played out a little more tastefully, I'd like her. Heck, at times, she took the spotlight from Cloud and he's the main character!

Can someone geekier than me testify the line that said that they put more emphasis on Aerith than what was originally planned because she dies? Please? I cannot keep track with all these lines in all these Ultimanias, profiles and whatnot. @_@

NOT AMUSED
I think this was discussed before in the Aeris/Tifa thread, but you're right, Tea-chan. Before the Compilation, I think Aeris didn't have enough room to be developed as well as her fellow mains like Cloud and Tifa. They had to make her likeable FAST, so you can tell they gave her some generic qualities they thought would make her endearing. And it worked.

Also, I think Q/Tres/Ryu are the resident Ultimania encyclopedias.

Tifa wasn't originally planned to exist at all, so...

Well, Tifa not originally planned was so early in the development that most of the story wouldn't be recognizable as FFVII anyways.

lol Vendel beat me to it. XP
