I used to go hunting for ways to get out of the map on BF3.
For most games with "Revive" functions it's generally possible to do so as long as the map geometry intersects properly in key locations or if the Revive function gives "I-Frames" which is a duration of time where you are invulnerable.
In this case they used the I-Frame method as you can't be killed as you are ressing and use it as a way to circumvent the death walls.
My favorite way is geometry revives though. This was possible in pretty much all of the maps in Battlefield 3's Vanilla maps as the majority of them had "terrain" that was under the map that intersected with buildings that had false floors/weren't rendered on the interior.
So you would go to one of these buildings with no interior and stand at a door or basically any corner structure where the corner pointed into the building, go prone with your legs sticking "into" the building and kill yourself with a grenade. Then a friend would revive you, since you were half in and half out at the point of death the game defaults to placing you at either side of the wall randomly , sometimes you go into this building that your not supposed to be in, other times you don't and at which time you just kill yourself and try again.
Once you get in you have access to the "undermap" and get to see a lot of strange things.
There are other ways to force it to work in some games too. Like getting into a vehicle and parking it against a building with no interior with the door pretty much fused with the wall and see if it lets you exit. If it lets you exit it generally will poof you into the inside of the building lol.
Once you get the hang of it it's pretty interesting to see how you can apply it to other games. A lot of games follow similar rules and architecture so as long as they get a little lazy you might be able to exploit , it's just about having the patience and time to keep trying.
My favorite applications of just breaking the game are in Bethesda games though. It's insane how the engine they have just gives no fucks and defaults to betraying physics regularly lol. I.E. To walk through walls in Skyrim, Fallout 3/NV/4 etc. All you need to do is pick up an object and walk into a wall at the right angle with it in front of you and bam your in lol.
Heres one of the original basic applications of it. If this is at all interesting to you I highly suggest looking up Skyrim speedruns. The game is totally broken in this sense lol.
