this isn't ps4 related strictly, but does anyone else have problems accessing the ps store from a browser? i have tried a couple of times but it didn't work and keeps telling me to go to playstationnetwork.com or something which doesn't work either (one because the like was malformed, and two because the site itself wouldn't load for me). going through the ps4 brought up an error message as well (haven't tried vita or ps3 stores yet)

I for one would need a 4K television before even considering this

And even then, I have a sneaking suspicion that this thing won't manage to run 4K smoothly. I mean GPU's costing the same as the whole device have trouble with 4K already.

Now I'm really torn about this.

When we move into our new house, my wife wants to buy a 4K TV, and so now (as a person who doesn't own a PS4) I'm really considering going with the Pro.
However, given the price and how I'm not really sure how much I would care about the graphical stuff, maybe I should just buy the slim and save the money for something else...

What to do? What to do?

I think any of us interested in the console gaming will have to eventually upgrade to PS4pro (or any other possible new iteration) or to be more precisely will be force to upgrade. During the first years all games might be compatible with both vanilla PS4 & PS4Pro but I think we will eventually reach a point where it might no longer be the case, like how some new apps are not compatible with some old firmware or how new PC games start requiering more powerful GPUs/CPUs as their low-end minimun requierement as time goes on.

They made it a point that PS4 Pro will not have exclusive games though. There is eventually gonna be a new proper iteration in the form of a PS5 no doubt but there won't be PS4 games specifically requiring a PS4 Pro.

i'm glad about that because it was dumb when they did that with the whole 'new 3ds' thing (though i don't know if there is any other game that requires the new 3ds other than xenoblade)

It's definitely not going to run native 4k. Optimistically. Very Optimistically , it will probably do 30fps / 1440p upscaled to 4k.


The 1080 , heck even the 980TI from last year, can do 4k at unstable between 30/60 fps on some games (Doom, Tomb Raider etc.) but you really gotta scale some shit back and definitely have to turn off any kind of Anti Aliasing (which admittedly 4k should still make look good without AA).

As you noted both of those cards cost more then a PS4 sooo... lol.

Comparatively the card the PS4 probably has is some sort of offshoot of the RX480. Which "kinda sorta" can do 4k on some games but it struggles and most definitely needs settings to be on Low.

Yeah AA shouldn't be necessary when you can't even see individual pixels (and that isn't a problem on regular TVs, let alone 4K TVs)

If PSX was before the release I'd say yes, but it's not. I'm going to not get my hopes up again but that'll be hard because when it airs that'll have been a year from the last trailer. And I want MOAR.
