Podcast discussion

The TLS.Net Final Fantasy Retrospective series is actually intended to be full episodes dedicated to the discussion of each game in the series. I don't want to short-change anything. There are plenty of things we can talk about for each game that would burn up the hour.
Right, sorry for misunderstanding. I'm not sure we're going to find many people on here with enough knowledge of some of the games to fill a whole episode, though.

My next door neighbor is a big Final Fantasy fan also and, if needed, he can be a third regular host.
Third? You and who else make up the first two?

I'm cool with having something more laid back for the show intro. A cover of "Ahead On Our Way" would be awesome for outro music. I'm really partial to Bulb and Haunted Shore's cover of "Ahead On Our Way" but I'm not sure if you would feel it would be too heavy.
The intro to that song is perhaps a bit too laid back. I'm sorry if I'm not being helpful here. I just feel like I'll know the right intro song when I hear it and I haven't heard it yet. You can also disregard my opinion if you want, I shouldn't have the final say. :) We could also try a few different songs in our first episodes and see what works best before settling on one.

Yeah, the idea behind doing the Retrospective series would be to have the hosts play through the games one by one and then provide our look back at each game as we complete them. That way each game is fresh on our minds. Basically, we would set a deadline for each host to have the game completed and then we would do our look at that game on the next episode(s).

I naturally assumed that you would be the second host. :) Would I be mistaken about that?

We can select which pieces of these songs we want to use for our intro/outro's. I agree that the beginning of this particular song is a bit slow but we don't have to use that piece. We would instead start later in the song when the music picks up.

I think you are seriously overestimating how much time people are willing to put into this. I only play through a couple of Final Fantasy games a year, and VII is usually one of them. Having to play through entire games before each episode would be a heavy burden, which is why I thought we'd get someone who is already an expert on the game to appear on the show to talk about it.

I don't think I've indicated - in these current discussions - that I want to host. I am happy to be a regular guest and reserve host though. I think one is enough.

(Maybe your idea of the word "host" is just someone who appears on every episode. I'm thinking more along the lines of someone who opens and closes each show, guides the discussion and makes sure we cover what we're supposed to. In some podcasts I listen to, the host does the least talking of all the guests, though it doesn't have to be that way.)

I'm not overestimating at all. It's more wishful thinking, I guess. Certainly, I am the first one to tell people that my time for hobbies and games are limited because I have a family to attend to. However, I am also committed to doing the best job I can to support my hobbies. If we can't get folks on-board with doing the Retrospective series then I have no problems doing it myself, no matter how long it takes. It's something I'm very passionate about doing.

I guess I assumed you wanted to be a co-host given that the podcast seems to be your baby. You ran the Skype call and put together show notes and seem to be pushing this as hard as I am.

I think proper terms would be 1 show host and then co-hosts and guests. Co-hosts are your show regulars along with the host. Guests would be experts, interviewees, etc that we would have on the show from time to time. Several of the podcasts I listen to have the host/multiple co-host set up. The host does have the job of keeping the show on the rails and kind of leads the topics of conversation. They also actively participate in whatever interviews/discussions are taking place. Regardless, a lot of this is just semantics.

One good thing about FF is that every game has its own hardcore fans and experts.

For sure! Everybody has their own favorite FF game for one reason or another. I think having these fans on the show from time to time will help maybe open others minds to why these games are good and maybe encourage them to try playing them.

Maybe we could incorporate both of our ideas: you could play through the games one at a time, and then, when you want to record an episode about one of them, you could invite other experts from our community onto the show.

Having run a couple of community playthroughs, I can tell you, very few people have the enthusiasm to play even one Final Fantasy game all the way through, let alone the entire series. We always get about 15 people who say they're going to do it, of whom maybe 10 actually start playing the game and five make it to the finish. :P

I'm pushing hard because... it's my job. :salute: The podcast is more or less a community project, and I'm the community manager. Also because I want to see more content on TLS in general, and I know that if I don't push for something, then it's unlikely to happen. I wish it wasn't like that, but it is.

So, what's up Flintlock? We going to go ahead and move forward with this? Do you want to post up something separate from this thread to ask for interest from folks in coming on the podcast? Maybe like a sticky/pinned announcement post?

I can do that. When shall we aim to record our first podcast? It'd be good to have at least a rough timetable, even if we wait until we know who's appearing before we nail down an exact time.

Let me check with my wife about her work schedule. I'd preferably like to record when she's home so that she can watch my son. I'll let you know just as soon as I talk to her. Probably a bit later today.

I don't know, aren't you the one who set up our iTunes account? :P I can send an image to you later/tomorrow. I've made one for the first episode of our new show already but I haven't yet made a generic one.

Actually, just use this, I made it for the new show but it works as a generic image too:

Can we have a separate sub-forum for podcast episodes? We're going to be making a new thread for each one. I don't mind where in our hierarchy it goes.

Just listened to the relaunch. It turned out really really good. Also listened to the little endcap there.

Vader, you sly pooch, lol.

Agreed! I very much like the music snippets (or whatever they're called) Vader edited in. The intro was particularly great. As for that outro... well, alright then. :monster:

I didn't sound so great, but I have a new microphone and I'm still learning how to set it up just right. Hopefully I sounded better in the minisode we recorded today. Lex also sounded a lot better today.

It was just too good to completely remove from the show. I thought it was quite funny. After all, if we can't laugh at ourselves, then what can we laugh at? :monster:

I think you sounded fine. You definitely sounded a bit better in the mini episode last night. Lex did as well.

All right, turns out we're still missing some settings in our podcast plugin (or they were removed, idk). Could you guys help me fill these values in?

Yop,

Here are my suggestions for what to fill in on some of these spots:

iTunes Program Subtitle: Come join us as we go on a mythical journey into all things Final Fantasy!

iTunes Program Summary: It's TheLifeStream.Net Final Fantasy Podcast! Join us as we go on a mythical journey into all things Final Fantasy (and related)! Each episode we will discuss recent news and notes, have a main discussion relating to Final Fantasy, respond to listener feedback, and may a few other surprises along the way! Subscribe to us so that you never miss an episode!

iTunes Explicit: Yes

iTunes Image: I would use the latest image that Flintlock just made. The one with the Final Fantasy VII remake logo on it. It's gorgeous and generic enough that it can be used for the show on the whole.

iTunes Program Keywords: Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Bravely Default, video games, reviews, news, Square Enix, RPG, MMORPG

By the way, is there no direct link to our podcast episodes? I expected to find a list somewhere under "Content" on the frontpage but there doesn't seem to be one...

Updated; as for the image, it needs to be 1400x1400 in .JPG format

I can get on that when I'm back at my home PC. (JPG though, ew.) In the meantime, Pixel's original logo might be the right size, that's around here somewhere.
