SPOILERS Predictions for Part 2? (*Open Spoilers for Part 1*)

Cat on Mars

Actually not a cat
Well look who was right!
They did mention somewhere that there was originally going to be a scene with Tifa beforw leaving for Wall Market where Jessie helps her get ready, or something like that, but that it got cut for time. If they do DLC for part 1 that adds new scenes, that could be what they're recording for.
This guy. This guy was right.

Here is a list compiled using the IGN walkthrough breakdown of the OG as well as Obsidian's input on the server and my own notes, so we can look at what we have yet to cover, and what can be retained or cut. It's obviously not some sort of perfect, exhaustive list, so if you think I've missed something I can add it in:

Midgar [Finished.]
Kalm [Essential for flashback.]
Mythril Mines [Can be cut.]
Junon [Mainly important as a plot device.]
Boat [Mainly plot device, but Jenova fight.]
Corel [Essential for Barret.]
Gold Saucer [Essential later, but not now. Dyne fight can be moved to Corel.]
Cosmo Canyon [Essential for Bugenhagen and Nanaki stuff.]
Nibelheim [Essential for obvious reasons. Also Vincent and Sephiroth meeting. Possible P2 ending place?]
Rocket Town [Essential for Cid and ship.]
Gold Saucer P2 [Essential for keystone and the date.]
Temple of Ancients [Essential for obvious reasons.]
City of Ancients [Essential for obvious reasons.]
Snow place [Only essential for the Gast stuff, which is oddly optional in OG.]
Crater [Essential for obvious reasons.]
Junon P2 [Important, but room for modifying.]
Mideel [Essential for Cloud stuff, thanks to Obsidian for remembering this location!]
Huge Materia Quests [Essential, but room for modifying.]
Junon P3 [?]
Key of Ancients [?]
Midgar P2 [Important, Hojo stuff, etc.]
Final Battle [Obviously essential.]

The notes are obviously just my own opinions, but that's how I see it.

No mention on Costa del Sol (essential for Johnny).
Also tagging Mythril Mines as skippable is problematic for dungeon lovers (although OG did already lack in the dungeon department).

That list is buggy. :offended:

REMAKE leitmotif should be: expand on everything we reasonably can, then try to add more stuff.

But then imagine if Part 2 only goes as far as the cargo ship?
That might pose problematic too... though starting Part 3 at Costa del Sol could be interesting too.

DISCLAIMER:
I've always been on the 4 parts club, part 2 being Nibelheim flashback to Mt. Nibel Jenoroth/Unknoroth bossfight (and a Zack's death sequence continuation epilogue).

Another thing to note is that Meteor is summoned not at the half-way point of the story, but closer to the 2/3 or 3/4 point. Meteor being summoned is also the last time Sephrioth talks in the entire OG. And that's when he's making everyone see him as Tifa with Mimic to boot.

I get the idea the last part of the game after Meteor will be very different this time around, if just so that Sephroith doesn't stop harassing Cloud after he gets his memories back in Mideel.

Basically:

- Expect to be surprised/for there to be changes.
- Expect new story to be added in areas to retain the flow of the long original game.

I interpret this as:

- Expect Genesis to return and for Zack to be a main character.
- Expect the remake to consist of at least 10 parts.

haha.

Expect us to time travel back to the ancients and destroy Jenova when it first arrived, erasing everything that followed.

... Nomura!!!

Actually, I'd buy that to see the Ancients, that could be quite cool.

I've actually thought about this a lot. It would be really difficult to pull off to some extent because it would require a whole new setting and characters. But seeing someone like Minerva as a mortal/top tier Cetra mage would be awesome. It could be very old school FF styled and even include the original Al Bhed arrival. Imagine an ancient Gi as a regular character, a Nibel Dragoon, and so much other stuff. We would need like... a time traveling Chrono Trigger for that where you see Jenova Arrival, BC/CC era, OG, and AC/DC, something like this.

Yeah, I wrote it as a joke but then I thought, actually, that would be cool. Just as a pure experience kind of thing. Plus, think of the endgame stuff, and new world stuff and exploration because its an area of the story thats so shrouded in mystery.

BIB: Well Sephiroph did it to make Remake happen so presumably Aerith could too if she tries hard enough. She needs to get her arse in gear and figure it out so Part 3 can be FFVII Through Time.

Fire and Blood
OK, I'm going to take points from the OG to try to dissect where the devs are going to stop part 2 because I feel we were maybe a tad optimistic thinking they could even lead us yet to the Temple of the Ancients? I also take into account that they want to add new locations seen elsewhere in the Compilation, but I have difficulties to locate them on a map so... I also can't seem to find a CC map? I am using an OG+BC one, but not having played CC, I don't know where its important locations are, aside the OG ones. I'm going to compare it to Remake Part 1 to get a rough idea for action/breather and where this could lead us to. I'm discovering this as I type BTW, I have not analysed before typing, but I feel the need to lay it down.

The timeline I use is the WikiFandom one.

At Kalm Inn Cloud tells the others about the Nibelheim Incident, but due to his altered memories, tells a different version where he was the 1st Class SOLDIER to accompany Sephiroth with Zack being absent entirely. Cloud's memory fails him and he doesn't know what happened to Sephiroth at the end of it.

The more I think about it, the more certain I am that we're going to start there; it will be a new game, with new mechanics - hopefully they'll just improve on what we had for the part 1 - and the flashback with young Cloud certainly is a good way to introduce us to them. The travel from Midgard to Kalm served as a breather in the OG, so it's not needed at the start of a game.

I feel that this will be chapter 1 AND 2 OR just chapter 1. They could add Healin which I see located on the CC map between Kalm and the Chocobo farm, so it may be a good chapter 2, alongside some travelling.

Cloud's party arrives at the Chocobo Farm and learn Sephiroth was spotted approaching the Mythril Mines. Choco Bill teaches the group how to catch chocobos tp safely traverse the swamp leading to the mines.

This is definitely going to be the equivalent of chapter 3 in part 1. I could see us doing some quests around to unblock the chocobos too. A bit of a breather before we head towards the marshes and the mythril mines.

  • In the marshes Cloud's party finds an impaled Midgar Zolom and deduce it to be the work of Sephiroth.
  • Sephiroth leaves the Mythril Mines and heads for Junon.
  • Cloud and the others encounter Tseng, Rude, and the Turks' newest recruit, Elena, who have been assigned to track down Sephiroth. They tell Cloud's party to stay out of their way, but Elena lets it slip that Sephiroth is heading for Junon.

This is definitely going to be one chapter. There's not much to do in the marshes and mythril mines, and I doubt that this is where the staff is going to put the most thoughts in them. It will be the equivalent of chapter 4, the travel towards the mission - which moved to Junon. I guess it's also going to be action-packed with mobs etc.

  • Cloud's party is ambushed by Yuffie and upon defeating her she joins their group with intentions to steal their Materia.
  • Cloud's party visits Fort Condor whose inhabitants hold off the Shinra armies from capturing the Mako Reactor where a condor has made its nest, but their resources have grown thin. Cloud and the others help Fort Condor fight against their common enemy.

We might or might not find Yuffie there. It is my thought that it's easier to make her appear in Wutai, but they might still keep her there. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't meet her there though, but in thinking about it, it might be a good time to introduce a new character.

Fort Condor is definitely up for a major overhaul. It was a major place, story-wise, but quite weird in the OG with the mini-games I never quite understood. So I feel that this is one of the places they will expand upon, we'll have more missions to fill in there. So this is the equivalent of chapter 5.

  • Cloud's party arrives in Lower Junon to find that access to Upper Junon is restricted due to an increase in security for Rufus's inauguration parade. A girl named Priscilla is attacked by Bottomswell, a mutant sea monster made from the waste of the Junon Mako Reactor. After defeating the monster Cloud administers CPR to Priscilla, who is taken home by her grandfather. The townspeople allow Cloud and the others to stay in Lower Junon for the night.
  • Priscilla shows Cloud her trained dolphin can jump on command and gives Cloud her whistle so he can use the dolphin to get to Upper Junon.

Chapter 6 was a breather in Remake, here we'll have to find our way to Junon - how they do it is still unknown, will we have a big map? - and then to upper Junon. Maybe add a few quests here.

  • Cloud infiltrates Upper Junon where he is mistaken for a Shinra infantryman and is forced to partake in Rufus's inauguration parade. Afterward Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith, Red XIII and Yuffie stow away on the cargo ship unaware that "Sephiroth" does the same.

I can't wait to see Red XIII in an uniform lol. The parade is quite a big thing, and I'm guessing it'll be expanded on. We will probably fight more turks here. Now this may still be part of chapter 6 or it will be chapter 7. It seems a bit tiny for chapter 7, but Junon is also up for a big redesign - I always imagined it was supposed to be really big, so if they want it big, it makes sense to have 2 chapters dedicated to it?

  • Onboard the ship bound for Costa del Sol Cloud finds his comrades in disguise and Barret spying on Rufus and Heidegger. Sephiroth attacks the ship and the party confronts him in the hold. He throws a piece of Jenova at the party that transforms into Jenova*BIRTH before escaping.
  • In Costa del Sol Cloud and the party find Tifa's friend Johnny and Hojo who has left Shinra. He asks Cloud to attend the Reunion but he doesn't know what Hojo means. Rufus reprimands Heidegger for his incompetence for failing to catch on Sephiroth and Avalanche were onboard the ship.

I can definitely say those two events are going to be 1 chapter. Nothing big happens in those two locations, they might add a little stuff to do, especially in Costa del Sol (come on I need that AerTi swimsuits shopping SE!), but will Hojo even be there? There will be a redesign, but I think nothing major.

It is to note that in the OG, I always wondered why we didn't kill Hojo right and there - I was so ready for it - but it didn't happen. How could Red XIII not jump on him as soon as he sees him? So Hojo may not be there, after all. What would be left to do in Costa del Sol, aside from more Jonnhy shenanigans? ^^' Costa del Sol is a mystery to me, because I do feel they're going to expand on this - we will get a bit of new quests etc. but we will probably also not exactly get Hojo with his subtle info about Reunion? So I don't feel like it's going to be a BIG location.

  • The party crosses Mt. Corel and arrives in North Corel where the villagers are angry Barret has returned, and he tells the party Shinra raided the town. They take the ropeway to Gold Saucer.
  • In Gold Saucer Barret runs off alone. Cloud meets with Dio, the owner, who says a man with a tattoo asked him about the Black Materia. Cloud runs into Cait Sith who reads his fortune and spooked by the bad omen insists on joining Cloud's party.
  • Finding a massacre at the Battle Square Cloud's party suspects Barret and the party is thrown into the Corel Prison by Dio. They find Barret in the prison who tells the story of himself and Dyne. As the only way out of the prison is to win a chocobo race on the boss's permission, the party treks the desert in search of him.
  • They discover the boss is Dyne who has had a gun crafted as a replacement arm like Barret. Dyne is overcome with hatred and fights the party upon hearing Marlene is still alive, but realises he cannot ever see her again due to having become so twisted and she wouldn't even remember him, and commits suicide.
  • Cloud is permitted to race at Gold Saucer and upon winning a chocobo race the party is granted their freedom with Dio gifting them a buggy as apology for the false accusations, saying he met another tattooed man who was headed toward Gongaga.

Chapter 9, the Gold Saucer! It's going to be massively redesigned, and I wonder if it's not going to take TWO chapters, one with GS and the other with the Corel Prison. We also may have to help Leslie's fiancée there - it might be in Costa del Sol, but my guess was immediately GS after what don Corneo said about taking over there. The GS might feel a bit darker while FUN! The Corel Prison will definitely be BIG with Barret's arc.

Also, we will get Caith Sith there, I guess.

  • In Gongaga the party runs into Reno and Rude who were expecting their arrival but they flee after losing the confrontation. Cloud suspects there may be a spy among them but decides to trust everyone. Scarlet and Tseng inspect the ruined Gongaga Reactor for Huge Materia but cannot find any. The party meets Zack's parents in the village who wonder of their son's whereabouts, upsetting Tifa and Aerith. The former still refuses to divulge the whole truth when questioned but Aerith tells Zack used to be her boyfriend.

Gongaga is going to be expanded on, definitely. It was a very small village in the OG, but we ought to focus a lot on Aerith there. Travelling+Gongaga will be chapter 11.

  • The buggy breaks down when the party passes Cosmo Canyon and they seek help in repairing it. Red XIII leaves the party saying he is home, and Bugenhagen tells the party of the spirit energy and the hazardous effect Shinra's drilling for Mako is having on the Planet. Aerith learns of her Cetra heritage and the Promised Land from the elders. Having learned Red XIII resents his "traitor" father Bugenhagen takes him to the Cave of the Gi to show him the truth. After the buggy is repaired Red XIII decides to continue accompanying the party on Bugenhagen's request.
Cosmo Canyon is one of those super important locations in the OG where very little *happens*. So I am not sure how they will tackle this: if they keep that size, they may decide to just put it in chapter 11 with Gongaga and call it a day; or it will be majorly redesigned to fit a whole chapter by itself. But we already have at least three major redesigns - Fort Condor, Junon, GS - so this might not be top priority, especially since I feel it ought to be more "natural" a much more silent place than the other ones. Guessing we're still in chapter 11 then.

  • The party finds Nibelheim fully rebuilt with impostor villagers hired by Shinra posing as the villagers to cover up the town's destruction five years ago. The town is full of Sephiroth Clones, the former villagers whose minds have broken. They meet Sephiroth in the Shinra Manor basement who asks Cloud to follow him across the mountains to the Reunion.

Nibelheim!!! At least a part they already have worked on!!! Woohoo!! Hello Vincent!!! This will definitely be chapter 12.

  • After crossing Mt. Nibel they enter the Rocket Town and ask Cid to borrow his plane to continue hunting Sephiroth but he refuses. They meet Shera who tells the story how Cid's plans of going to space were ruined. Rufus arrives with Palmer, but instead of bringing news of restarting the space travel project like Cid had hoped, he also wants to borrow Cid's plane as the Shinra airship Highwind is not ready yet, as they have info on Sephiroth heading to the Temple of the Ancients. The party tries to stop Palmer from stealing the plane but it takes off with the party and Cid onboard and is shot down by Shinra soldiers, crashlanding into the sea, becoming a boat for the party. Yuffie suggests they head west.

Chapter 13 for travelling to Rocket Town, discover it, have some quests get Cid on board. If Yuffie is already there, then she can suggest they go west. Elsewise, the devs will have to make the party want to go to Wutai by themselves!

  • In west they find Wutai but are ambushed by Shinra soldiers. During the tussle they notice Yuffie has taken off with their Materia, although she insisted she is not collaborating with Shinra. They track her down in Wutai village where Reno, Rude and Elena are on vacation, but when the Shinra soldiers request their help in locating Don Corneo who has been spotted in the area, they refuse. The party corners Yuffie who explains she wanted their Materia to restore Wutai to its former glory, but takes off again after the party is trapped inside a cage. After freeing themselves the party discovers Yuffie and Elena have both been kidnapped by Don Corneo who has taken them to the Da Chao mountain, and Reno and Rude join forces with Avalanche to save them. Reno kicks Corneo off the Da Chao precipice and Yuffie returns the Materia and rejoins the party, thankful for having been rescued.
  • Yuffie battles the five warriors of Wutai at the pagoda and discovers the top warrior is her father, Godo. After besting him in battle he admires her strength and asks her to keep accompanying the party, suggesting she steal their Materia again once Sephiroth has been dealt with.

I'm expecting a full Wutai redesign. They may throw in Fort Tamblin, though I'm not really sure. If we didn't get Yuffie, we'll get her here. Wutai could easily be 2 or 3 chapters alone, and Yuffie might or might not be fully playable.

  • The party discovers they need the Keystone to enter the Temple of the Ancients where Sephiroth is said to be headed. Cloud acquires it from Dio of Gold Saucer but they are forced to stay the night when the ropeway breaks down. During the night Cait Sith steals the Keystone and hands it over to Tseng of the Turks. He is caught but because he has had Marlene taken hostage, the others allow him to keep accompanying them.
  • In the temple the party finds Tseng injured by Sephiroth and he relinquishes the Keystone. At the heart of the temple the party meets Sephiroth who divulges his plan on summoning a Meteor to wound the Planet so he could absorb its spirit energy and become a god. As the temple itself is the Black Materia required to summon the Meteor, Cait Sith volunteers to sacrifice himself to get it. After the temple is shrunk a new Cait Sith appears to replace the old one, and Sephiroth takes control of Cloud to hand the Materia to him and to attack Aerith until a party member knocks him unconscious.
  • In a dream Aerith tells Cloud she is heading to the Forgotten Capital to stop Sephiroth. Cloud awakes in Gongaga and tells the others and they decide to follow her.
  • In the Bone Village the party digs up a Lunar Harp and passes through the Sleeping Forest to the Forgotten Capital. While staying the night Cloud awakes as he hears Aerith calling for him, and the party finds her on an altar praying. She is killed by Sephiroth who claims Cloud is nothing but a puppet, and a white Materia piece falls from her hair to the water below. The party mourns her passing and Cloud rests her in the lake, vowing to avenge her.

This will be the end of Remake Part 2. You can have easily several chapters here, especially with the ToA redesign, everything that needs to make it flow together, etc.

Looking at this, I think "well, luckily they already have worked on the character designs" because there is a LOT left in terms of graphics and towns redesigns. I'm expecting some parts to change more than others, but it's really a lot of work, graphic-wise. Especially since they want to add new locations, I don't expect them to go further than Aerith's death, but looking at it, if they want to make it a full-fledged 4 parts, then they will have to add a lot more and finish *before* we arrive in Wutai. The problem is that to "finish", they have to give a point where it feels good to finish and to me, Aerith's death is the only waypoint in the OG that can serve like this. Before Wutai too, but it would mean that Aerith's death isn't the ending point of part 3, which could be the Northern Crater instead, fully admitting that they would have to add a TON of things on both part 2 and 3 for it to work.

I think you have a solid roadmap there, @Eerie, at least up to Rocket Town. What happens from there is so difficult to guess because it could depend in part on when Yuffie is meant to join up.

Perhaps I'll be proven mistaken, but I expect that to occur before Junon (probably after hearing about a thief in the region a couple of times). It just feels better paced to have her join up in the first quarter of the game, then Cait Sith around the halfway point, then Vincent and Cid in the last third to last quarter.

I also expect that -- if the Wutai quest plays out at all in similar fashion to how it did in the original -- it should happen before the Temple of the Ancients, so the intended length of the Wutai portion could determine whether the game is forced to end just after Wutai, just after Rocket Town, or possibly even just after Nibelheim.

I would like to see it end just after the temple with either Cloud's dream or the party setting off to save Aerith in the north, but I increasingly feel we're unlikely to see Part 2 get that far.

Ending after Nibelheim has been floated as a possibility by a number of fans, due in part to the possibility for the game to open in Nibelheim via the Kalm flashback, then end there in the present day -- as well as due to the increasing likelihood that we're looking at four parts before all is said and done. If Nibelheim does end up being the stopping point, I expect we will definitely get Yuffie in the first half of Part 2 (either shortly before Junon or right after Costa del Sol), then pick up Cait Sith around the halfway point or a bit after, with acquiring Vincent saved for the beginning of Part 3 so that Cid isn't the only new character introduced in that game.

Rocket Town could be rejiggered a tad to make it a more suitable place to end Part 2, though. That section is going to need some reconfiguring anyway since the Tiny Bronco subplot would seem absurd now (it was already ridiculous enough before).

This may actually work in the dev team's favor the most, as they could put off having to worry about giving us a vehicle that can travel oceans until Part 3, then have that game open with the party already on the Wutai continent (at Yuffie's suggestion). Next, with our materia (possibly all of our equipment?) stolen, the first portion of Part 3 could be a functional tutorial section in much the same way as the Kalm flashback would serve for Part 2.

That would then give the developers the freedom to make the Wutai portion as long or as short as they need to accommodate their intended endpoint for Part 3. Maybe they make Wutai five chapters and the game ends just after Aerith's death or after Meteor is cast. Maybe it's only two or three chapters and the game ends after the escape from Junon (or when Tifa wakes up there).

The fourth and final game opening up with the search for Cloud (or even during the Junon execution) seems like a good spot for another "tutorial" section a la the Kalm flashback as the start for Part 2 and my proposed Wutai open for Part 3.

Of course, if the developers decide to get thrifty with the Huge Materia portion of the game by addressing all that during our first visits to those locales, we could still potentially be looking at a Part 3 thàt opens in Wutai and goes to the very end -- no more than three chapters spent in Wutai, Aerith's death and Meteor's summoning around the halfway point, Cloud's recovery in the Lifestream by three-quarters to eighty percent ...

I am literally salivating contemplating the possibilities. =\ I need an update from SE on what to expect.

Yes, I feel that if they want to do 4 parts, then they will end at Nibelheim. Then we could expect some other parts to get expanded on, like Costa del Sol, etc., so that the game will be longer. Since we will see a lot of towns, I do expect a lot of side quests to pop up, as to make sure we'll visit all the areas fully.

Also if they go that route, I expect them to show Yuffie only in part 3 with Wutai, like this they only have to work on 2 new characters for Part 2 and 3. Part 2 we'd have Caith Sith and Vincent - with Vincent maybe not even fully playable - and part 3 we'd get Cid and Yuffie.

I hadn't considered the possibility of saving Yuffie for Part 3 ...

Hmmm. Thinking on it, though, I don't think they will go that route.

From Kalm to the Gold Saucer seems like a really friggin' long way to not have a new character join us, only to load us up with two on the back end (last third even?) of Part 2 and another two in the first quarter of Part 3. And imagine being new to FFVII, going that far, getting a new character, and it being not a sexy, spunky ninja -- no, no, it's ... Cait Sith. XD The random AF cat that briefly appeared during the fall of Sector 7 in Part 1.

Sounds disappointing. :monster:

And I do feel like it would have to be before Rocket Town for Yuffie to join -- otherwise we probably have her joining after the temple or Aerith's death. Logistical incongruities of the plot with that aside, that would also have her stealing her companions' shit after Aerith has gone missing (or died), and that's going to make her irredeemable to too many players.

I can maybe see the heavy-on-the-back-and-front-ends thing being alleviated somewhat if they at least introduced Yuffie in Part 2 as a minor antagonist who we fight once or twice, such that her finally joining up on the way from Mt. Nibel to Rocket Town doesn't seem wholly out of left field ... but I'm still leaning towards the better pacing and fun factor offering of introducing her as playable in Part 2.

How about not just Yuffie/Cait Sith, but we have some other chap join the party?
Avalanche member at Fort Condor or something else totally unexpected?

As much as I've been in the Nibel-to-Nibel scenario almost since the remake was announced to be made in parts...
I wouldn't be surprised if Part 2 ends up expanding so much on Fort Condor, Junon, along some new places that
they end it at the Shin-Ra Cargo of Horror. Worst case? They don't expand so much and still end it there. :mon:

My problem is less "where does Part 2 end" and more "how much plot would part 3 or 4 have after that".

The FF7 story is very "front loaded" where the majority of interesting (and iconic) stuff happens in the first 2/3 of the game. Once you get past that, the game... almost repeats itself in terms of locations. Other than Mideel, the party doesn't go anywhere new after Meteorfall. They just go to places they have already been to.

Which leads to the awkward position of the first 2/3 of the game being where all the new assets (and a lot of dev time) have to be spent compared to how much "story" happens. One reason I think Part 2 (and Part 3) will be slow to come out is asset creation. No matter how much story happens, the entire Eastern Continent has to be planned out in terms of assets... As does the entire Western Continent... and Wutai, Northern Continent, etc.

The "half-way point" of the OG story is the 2nd Gold Saucer bit as that's where the plot has kept building and so far, everything has worked out. It feels like it's time to go get rid of Sephiroth then, and then everything goes down-hill. I can't help thinking that however the story gets restructured, the 2nd Gold Saucer visit is going to be the half-way point again. But ending Part 2 at Nibelehim feels... too soon for that. Since the 2nd Gold Saucer Visit is right after Rocket Town technically (which is longer if you go to Wutai first, but still).

Wutai is going to get a very heavy rewite I feel. Kind of like Wall Market did. Because Wutai isn't connected to the hunt for Sephrioth in the OG. So my feeling is... Sephrioth and the Sephrioth Clones are going to have a reason to show up in Wutai so that it feels less "tacked on" to the Main Story. Have the gang think the Key to ToA is at Wutai and both they and Sephrioth would head there in a heart beat.

It's... after Northern Crater that the story gets weird and this is when I think they'll have a very story-heavy last part instead of a location-heavy part. At least in terms of dev time. After Mideel, there's no "new places" that really need to get made en masse. Instead it's the gang running around fighting people. So... I could honestly see everything post-Mideel getting put in one Part.

Actually... heh...
Junon ends with a Jenova boss battle... expand For Condor and/or send the gang down to Mideel/Banora for whatever reason, and that would be a decent end for Part 2.
Make Wutai end with a Jenova boss battle... and that would make for a good end to Part 3.
Part 4 would be everything from ToA to Mideel. Have it end with the Weapon fight at Mideel and Cloud and Tifa in the Lifestream.
Part 5 starts with a finally sane Cloud and finishes everything off.

Of course... that's all assuming the story isn't going to get changed like I think it might. In which case, the OG's plot structure isn't going to be worth all that much to compare back to...

Would be interesting, but maybe it doesn't make much sense for Sephiroth to be wrong.
Sephiroth's always a dozen steps ahead since falling into the Lifestream, and it will be interesting to see how they tackle this in the next parts.

Like, when did he wake up from that, when did he started his Reunion plan? Was it while Zack escaped Shinra Manor? When Zack confronted Genesis? Way Before? After? I wonder how story subtleties like these could play a role going forward. Probably a mistery forever?

Think we will be reaching the sleepy old-man at that random cave on Part 2? What use could it have in REMAKE? Maybe they'll skip it?
How 'bout the lone weapon-maker too? Would he recognize the Buster Sword and remember when he helped make it? I just made that up, but...

Random stuff, I know.

I'm still not shaken off of Nibel-to-Nibel for Part 2. I think they'll add in a Jenova fight (or maybe a Vincent/Chaos fight) to close it out with. I think it makes the whole thing deal with Cloud's psychosis really front and center and buttons things up.

I also expect to see a few different things, such as in Cosmo Canyon with the whole "original Avalanche" bit. Meeting Veld/Verdot and Elfe/Felicia here could really bring Barret's story arc a lot further as he has to sit down and think through his actions. Should he be the most radical branch of Avalanche? Are the innocent deaths worth it? What cost is too much? That tension is built up in Part 1 with Tifa and the others, and seems like the cut Tifa content would have expanded upon that. I think this would be a great additional arc to fill their characters out. You could even meet Felicia out in the canyon when the buggy breaks down and she helps save them from some monsters or something. Cosmo Canyon would be a nice little retreat for her and Veld after everything.

I think Costa del Sol will be punched up a bit with silly swimsuit section and Aerith and Tifa making Cloud uncomfortable. I think after the heaviness of the Junon Cargo Ship bit, this could really work.

I think we will see Fort Condor, and I think we will see Yuffie before Junon, too. It might make the most sense to wrap her into the marsh/mines/Condor area and have her join the party like that. She could even be someone rescued from Shinra soldiers, or be a Wutai agent sent to work *with* Avalanche, as it seems the other branch of Avalanche was possibly funded and armed by Wutai.

Ending it at Nibelheim for the second go-around (or the reactor for a surprise fight there) would give them time and room to prep the heavy-development for Wutai, Rocket Town, and ToA, all of which I think are going to take huge and heavy redesigns.

Personally, I think it has to be when Genesis is "cleansed" by Minerva a la final fight in Crisis Core. Cloud and Zack still have a bit of their journey to go, but that would track with my own understanding fo the Jenova-noosphere.
