After Dark - Haruki Murakami

It was a good book, not as brilliant as Norwegian Wood or Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End Of The World, but it was a pretty good read. Written in real time, which I thought was an innovative way to have the chapters, and it's one of his smaller novels so it's ideal for someone who would like to start reading Muramaki's work.

He has this way of making the whole world into one huge metaphor. His writing is just lyrical and song like, it's amazing, I don't know how to describe it. Especially this novel, the way he brings forward the relationship between two sisters at totally different end of a spectrum is wonderful.

Uh, it gives us people a wider perspective on why you shouldn't be a ding-dong head and be prejudice towards gay men.

Why do some people suddenly get so defensive and bring up the gay prejudice thing as soon as you mention how stupid yaoi is? Get a clue! So not liking straight porn would make me a "ding-dong" head that's prejudice towards straight couples? Does not compute!

More like a way for Japanese fangirls to get their rocks off. 'Cuz ya, pron.

The all caps suggests to me that you are being sarcastic, yes?

Twilight was pretty decent...

...up until Edward and Bella finally got together. :-X

Seriously I liked the beginning because Edward was a total douche bag towards her. It was funny. But then he becomes this goody goody sniveling idiot.

And seriously, almost every single conversation him and Bella have is all,
"Oh I love you Edward never leave me!"
"I'm such a sick masochistic freak you should stay away!"
"No Edward I love you and you aren't scary!"
"But I could bite you and devour your innards!"
"I don't care Edward. Do whatever you like because I love you!"
"I wish I could stay away from you but I just can't!"
"Oh gee Edward you're so pretty and you sparkle in the sun, too!"
"I watch you while you SLEEP!"
"lol That's okay Edward I love you."

No doubt, you write some of these doujinshis yourself. I have heard tale of American women helping their azn counterparts make such scary novels.

Twilight was an awful film and I don't see how the fuck so many people liked it.

And most of them were women, wtf.

Isn't Sin City just a comic? I wanted to watch the movie but have been too lazy to. However whenever I hear "Violet Sauce" I always get the urge.

I hate Twilight so much. It's not well-written at all. The author has no writing style to speak of; she just abuses complicated words to try and make her writing sound smarter, when that's such a basic no-no in the world of writing.

Bella is also a dumb cunt who likes to be abused by Edward. He's too possessive. It's disgusting when you realize that so many teens want a "perfect" romance like this when it isn't perfect at all. It's so dysfunctional; the makings of an abusive relationship. If I was Bella I would have kicked that loser's ass.

I didn't realize that people here were against the ideas of yaoi. :monster:

I didn't say I was against the idea- rather that I think that it gets old after a while. The art, too, starts looking the same after a while.

Oh, I agree. You know, there was this girl (infamous girl) who had this forum with ridiculous names for Clotis.

I don't see how this relates, but tell me more?

Totally loved "Those that Hunt the Night". Yeah, it sounds really hooky, but the characters are hilarious. And anyone who likes a good detective story, ye ol' England and the supernatural would enjoy this very much.

Speaking of Neil Gaiman, you all should check out the book he did with Yoshitaka Amano. Most of the art in that is really good, and I greatly love the story. It's a retelling of an old Japanese myth, or some such, but I still really like it. :)

It's called The Sandman: The Dream Hunters. :)

No, it actually isn't. The story Gaiman said he based it on doesn't exist. Gaiman then claimed he made the story up on his own. Who knows what really inspired him.

And anyone who's a fan of Gaiman has more than likely already read that. Even given the artwork, which I can't stand, it's still a great book.
