but I can totally understand why someone who looked at a picture of him would think 'girl.'

No, I'm being perfectly honest. I showed a picture of him to a random person, a friend's mom, and asked whether it was a girl or boy. It was to settle a little argument. She said the face was masculine in shape.
For a more expert opinion, a guy who loves anime and Japanese culture in general also agrees the face was masculien in structure.

And Kuja is ccalled Mystery man from the moment of his introduction. You come upon him and Brahne and the first line you hear is his comment on the rain IIRC.

Pardon me for backing up my position. I said his facial structure was masculine, some other people disagreed. I provided some grounds for my claim and that's it. Nowhere did I say everyone thought the face was masculine.

I never mistook Kuja's gender, although one have to admit that he's very adrogynous/effeminate.

As for his face, it is not very manly nor is very feminine. Instead, i think it resembles more the face of a child, without defined gender.

A more expert opinion in comparison to the random friend's mom I mentioned. I didn't mean the person was authoritative in judging what looked masculine to everyone.

Kuja has feminine facial structure. I study this shit for a living, and he has exactly the kind of symmetrical facial structure common in females. It's very uncommon in males over the age of 13. Is that expert enough for you? HAH.

Everyone did, he's a girly character among a series of girly characters. Honestly, I think its the clothes. He shows so much skin but covers his waist and his chest, its that which I think really makes people mistake him for a girl.

When I saw scans of him in magazines before the game came out, I thought it was a tall lady, but I wasn't positive. That's only because I'm used to bishies, and usually they make girls' eyes a little bigger, and the nose a little shorter. Lips a bit fuller and stuff.

They didn't show his bottom half in the picture I saw, though. If they had, I would have been 100% convinced it was a woman until I played the game.

Well Zidane has a slim figure. Not quite as shapely as Kuja's but I cold sitll mistake him for a girl just from the face alone.

As for them being special, all Genomes except Kuja have the same hair. All of them have tails. I don't think there's any real big differences aside from the clothing.

Seriously, it's impossible to mistook his gender because the first time he appears, we have quotes like:

Zidane(or Freya) - "Who is that guy?"

And when Kuja is talking...

"Mistery Man: Blah blah blah..."

Seriously, everyone who say they mistook Kuja's gender or who call him gay, are just haters trying to find an excuse to bash him.
This is the same think they do with Sephiroth and the "mamma's boy" label.
