Seen the Sonic and Knuckles playthroughs now. Think there's a Tails one too? I'm satisfied with what I see. I think I need to be a kid again to be an absolute fanatic about a new Sonic game though (I drew Sonic so much for about 2 years, my teachers were concerned :P). New bonus stage is cool. Certainly better than that S&K one... which also features in this game. What do the coins you're rewarded with do?

is the new music. Hard to capture the minimalism (for lack of better word) of the well-composed 16 bit sounds of the original series, but I think it is essential to the Sonic feel. Not all the new music is bad, having said that. Just not spectacular :P. Maybe the rest will grow on me, but I don't recall disliking the "new" music of "new" Sonic games when they were released back in the 1990s. Could just be getting old and hating change, and whippersnappers :awesome:.

Am I supposed to jump on the missiles? I feel like sometimes that flings them at the boss, but when I try to repeat what I did it hurts me.

Do I just not touch them at all and they'll eventually get to the boss?

I was confused at first too.

Jump on the blue missiles. Avoid the red ones.

Just finished Flying Battery. That boss was annoying. =/

Man, I haven't found any special stages past Chemical Plant so far D:

I'm actually crying a little bit because this game is so perfect holy fucking shit why do I have to raid today. Played through to the third set of levels, and yeah that boss was something else XD.

Composer (and fan) Tee Lopes released a thank you video:

Halfway through now. The stages are a blast. :D
Bosses can get a bit annoying at times. Definitely a bit harder than the Mega Drive games. Maybe I just get more easily frustrated these days. :P

Yeah I will throw my hat in to the annoying boss ring, Studiopolis Act 1 right now because
I don't like "running" bosses a la metal sonic from CD :/

Um holy shit I just discovered something (playing as sonic and tails):
if you jump and hold "up" you can get tails to catch you and fly! When he grabs sonic just keep pressing the jump button to hover as though you're controlling tails. WUT

Same here.

Unfortunately, Metal Sonic makes a return and yes, it's a running boss again

I think you're right Tetsujin. The bosses feel a little harder, but it could be a skewed feeling because my patience levels are a lot lower than they used to be lol.

Just finished Flying Battery. That boss was annoying. =/

That threw up a roadblock for me this morning. Will give it another bash tonight.

I know very little about any of this, but apparently there's a secret joke mode of sorts talked about in this article and I was curious on you fine folks' thoughts.

This goes hand-in-hand with the kind of content they post on their social media. I almost wish I hadn't read this now, though. That would have been fun to find. :(

I'm sorry. TT__TT
Hopefully you still get to unlock it and have fun with it!

My Collector's Edition arrived today... and I have an issue with how terribly Amazon packaged it. Zero padding, two thin sheets of brown paper, that's all. Damage to the outer box, and inner box are...not great, but worst of all is the Sonic statue(Full-size). Amazon can't/won't offer a replacement, just a refund (the total price being $48.87)... which given the current prices of the PC CE on both Amazon and eBay, fall short of what I'd need to buy a new one (that I presume will be packaged with far more care than Amazon).

I've been able to play Mania thanks to a friend letting me borrow their PS4 (I played for about 5 hours straight once the game's midnight release came). I had to purchase the game yet again, but I'm more than happy to give them an extra sale. The game is AMAZING. I do wish there were more Zone transitions however... I was surprised when Flying Battery just became the next Zone without any transitioning between the two. I really hope that the dev team will patch in more transitions as they really add to the flow of the game (I won't spoil where Chemical Plant leads, but it's surprising and works well).

It feels much harder than any 2D Sonic game I've played before, but perhaps I'm rather rusty? I see others find it difficult too, so maybe it's not just me. The new 3D special stage took many tries to finally get it down, and even then I only have 2 Chaos Emeralds with Tails (which is my 3rd play-through, not that I've beaten the game with Sonic or Knuckles, I just wanted to try it out with all 3 characters). Blue Spheres as a bonus stage does work, though they are also difficult. However the medals you get as a rewards for completing (Silver for just Spheres cleared, Gold for a Perfect) DO something... but I won't say what.

If you thought Mania looked beautiful in the various teasers and trailers, you'll no doubt drink in every detail when playing, This is how I want 2D/Classic Sonic games to look like until Taxman and co. run out of ideas for Zones.

Tee Lope's music is top-notch. Sega better release a full album, or they'll lose sales to YouTube rips for those that don't want lossless FLAC audio of these masterpieces.

Been thinking about this most of the day and can't wait to get home and play more, can't believe we have a sonic game this good in 2017

Birthday party last night so I couldn't play much more, got through the 3rd and 4th levels. Still love it. Basically everything about it so far.

It does seem harder, but I'm not sure if it's simply because I don't have all the levels memorized like I do the old versions :monster:

Anyone who hasn't played it yet and wants to be surprised by things like the boss fight we were gushing about, watch out that Kotaku put an image of the boss right on their damn page. >_>

I LOOOOOVE this game, guys, haha. It is tough, but only a boss/obstacle or two have really gotten on my nerves. (Does anyone know how to work those jumpy conveyor things in Press Garden Zone? lol) The gimmick in the new city level was adorable. There are also quite a lot of levels, I feel like. I'm calling it for tonight and maybe playing some XII, but I feel like I got through a healthy bunch of them, I dunno how close I am to the end.

I had been spoiled in my skimming of reviews about Lava Reef Zone, but I enjoyed it, I always liked that zone. I like the amount of S&K in general actually, as I probably played that one the most growing up. Oil Ocean was a total surprise though, and the fire shield lighting the oil was a freakin awesome touch. I also didn't expect Hydrocity Zone, I LOVE the theme song for that stage, so I liked it for that alone. And reversing the old boss fight was completely brilliant.

The Flying Battery boss does indeed suck. Probably the most annoying thing so far, haha. I haven't found any more special stages after the first one, which I bombed hard at. I like the S3 special stage, and I've gotten quite a few, I feel like they're a little long for Starpost special stages though. I wind up skipping them because I just don't always feel like doing them. They were a lot more spread out in S3&K, and the Starposts just giving you the reels or gumball machine was easier to take (I loved the gumball machine, haha).

I'm just typing stream of consciousness here so I might think of some other stuff, but a lot of the "gimmicks" so far have been pretty fun, I like the lottery machine :P

A friend of mine had been talking about this game for a while now, and linking me music from it. Been years since I've played a Sonic game, but I'm keen to indulge :) - Downloading right now!
