Craig Stitt, the guy who made Sonic 2's Hidden Palace, recently released this video from a VHS resume from 1994. It features a cancelled MD game, with reused/updated Hidden Palace art.

Those green slopes weren't in the S2 beta without water, but they look similar to the Taxman's 2013 version.

There's more details emerging, apparently it was supposed to be set in Sonic's universe.

Sega also announced earlier that they are "aggressively" focusing on steam ports of their games.

I doubt they'll ever see the light of day again. Taxman isn't even updating them now, Sega took over when they made them free with a paid upgrade. I bought them and I'm still getting ads in them. The 3ds and Switch versions are the M2 ports.

Anyway, Craig Stitt posted again. SEGA used to hold internal competitions for Sonic's new buddy, and it turns out he submitted "Boomer the Turtle"

“For Sonic 2 we needed a buddy / player two for Sonic. This little guy was my submission. He would have been tough with the shell, but vunerable, needing Sonic’s help, if he got flipped on his back. He would have helped out Sonic by being able to ‘fly’ if Sonic pushed him up to speed. Then Sonic would jump up and ride on his back over lava, spikes etc etc.” – Craig Stitt

There was also another canceled game called Treasure Tails. It never got a playable version:

Rumor: Sonic Forces 2 for PS5 accidentally leaked on Sega's website, with it's release window also accidentally leaked-for June 2021.

My translation: Sonic Disaster 2(Sequel to Sonic Disaster, officially known as Sonic Forces-PS4).

Interesting character design. I remember coming up with a “bad” version of Tails called Sneaks the Fox, as part of a game idea I sent Sega back in the mid 90’s for a Sonic Olympics game (about a decade before the Mario and Sonic Olympics game came out).

About time we got a sequel to Sonic Mania, preferably featuring some of the characters from the old SatAM cartoon. Was so good to finally get a proper Sonic game again, after 20 years of forgettable pap.

If you've never done white-collar work at a large corporation that markets products to children (I never have), then I would say: we really don't know what that job is like, do we?

You might think that it'd be great fun; I imagine (being almost 40) that it probably isn't, for the most part.

Tight security
Day-in-day out drudgery
"Bottom-up" focused communication
Unmerciful management
Lack of feeling like you make an impact

All of these things, I imagine, are part-and-parcel to working *at* Sega or any type of entertainment company that has a flagship 'kid-friendly' mascot character at its center.

It can't be pleasant every single day, I'm sure of it. And the people who make decisions for which direction franchises like Sonic The Hedgehog go in, may or may not be making those decisions for reasons one might consider to be 'rational.' It's hard to say, because entertainment companies tend to be extremely secretive to the point of being monolithic.

I know it's not a satisfying answer to "why don't we have Sonic 1+2 mobile on PC yet", but I think it's the most rational possible answer, knowing as little as we know about it. It doesn't leave much room for discussion about it either, which I personally find quite unsatisfying, but at the same time, it's as close to a truthful answer as I think I can come up with.

"Even a theory requires facts, Captain. So far... I have none."

The guy who made the tweet confirmed it as fake. He did it just for the reaction.

Thank god for that. Whoever that guy is that did it, if he thought it was funny, it's not. No offense.

Here's another tidbit from Craig Stitt about Sonic Spinball. Turns out there was a level that was supposed to be before Toxic caves that got cut...created by Brenda Ross, who made the desert and wood zones. That's every level she made for Sonic games cut.

That's pretty interesting, poor lady couldn't catch a break lol. From the same page though, apparently they found the full version of the credits theme from the OVA:
Love that song, pure 90's cheese.

Not sure if any one here has been buying and reading the STH IDW comics, but given what's happened due to the preview of Issue 31, this is how I strongly feel and believe the Post-Metal Virus Saga will play out along with already summary details from Issues 33 and 34.

Failing to restore Sonic's memory due to the Warp Topaz and the Chaos Emeralds, Blaze let's "Mr. Needlemouse" burrow the power of the Sol Emeralds to transport him home, where he regains his fighting will and skills to fight Eggman and stop him from hurting his friends, who are shocked to see him return, but horrified that he has amnesia. Remembering how Dr. Starline helped Eggman to get the latter's memory back, Tails takes it upon himself to help Sonic get his back and allows Sonic to become his assistant.

While attempting to figure out how to restore Sonic's memory, the duo are approached by Team Dark in hopes of fixing up Omega who, after being over-written, is badly damaged. Tails and Sonic agree and search around Eggman's seemingly abandoned Base where they are eventually approached by a mysterious figure. At the same time, Cheese the Chao is being threatened to be taken away by another mysterious new enemy called Clutches who is collecting the Chao. Cream, Amy and Rouge are forced to enter races in order to save Cream, while Sonic and Tails attempt to find parts to fix up Omega as well as try to restore Sonic's memory, but the two begin to fear that Sonic has permament memory loss.

At the end of the new Saga in 2021/2022/2023, Sonic's memories are finally restored.

I have been keeping tabs on this, but when I saw and read what happened...I'm going to stop now since I always thought all comic books of any media to be quite dark to me. Somehow the Kingdom Hearts manga and Pokemon Adventures Manga seem to be more lighter, which is strange, I know.

Edit: Another theory, similar to the first.

Remembering how Dr. Starline helped Eggman to get the latter's memory back, Tails takes it upon himself to help Sonic get his true memories back and allows Sonic to become his assistant.

Theory 3: Failing to restore Sonic's real memory due to the Warp Topaz and the Chaos Emeralds having altered them with false memories, Blaze uses the power of the Sol Emeralds to transport him home, where he regains his fighting will and skills to fight Eggman and stop him from hurting his friends, who are shocked to see him return, but horrified that his memories are replaced with fake ones as Blaze explains the situation and asks Tails to help restore Sonic's memories. Tails agrees readily to take it upon himself to help Sonic get his back and allows Sonic to become his assistant while Blaze, knowing that Sonic is in good hands, returns to her world.

The rest of the theory is the same as the two other theories.

Either way, I seriously hope the new Sonic games don't become canon to the IDW comics or base them on the storyline of the comics themselves. Plus, one of these theories are right. I can feel it. I'd be relieved if I'm wrong and that Sonic will be back to normal
his memories back and everything
, but I extremely doubt it.

By the way...is the Spoiler tag broken or something?

This was reported on Monday and is almost all over the internet.

New multiple Sonic Games for 2021

Hopefully these new games(or maybe a remake of Sonic Adventure 1 for one of them at least) will be in Modern Sonic 3D(not the live-action movie look), and not like Sonic Forces...but that's a...well, hard to say kind of thing. Guess we'll see what happens.

I'm hoping for a new game that isn't a reboot
doesn't involve memory loss or a connection with the IDW comics, but it most likely will happen, and I have a feeling it's already confirmed
, 3D modern Sonic that isn't like the movie or Sonic Boom, not a disaster like 06, Lost World or Forces, on a similar scale to Unleashed and Colors, a return of most characters(Sonic obviously), like Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Cream and Cheese, maybe Shadow(where he's written right and not like the recent games), better story telling, better gameplay, a happy ending(I know that's asking much*Shrugs*), and good songs for the opening and ending, and a new continent location that isn't reusing the world Zones.

Or at least a remake of Sonic Adventure since I like that game's story. I'd ask for a remake of Tails' Adventure, but...I don't think many would agree to that despite that the story set between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 holds potential for giving Tails' a back-story.

Craig Stitt on MJ:
Micheal Jackson at SEGA of America / STI (March 10, 1993)

Micheal Jackson was a huge video game fan, and in particular a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. He was going to work with SEGA on the music on Sonic 3. One evening we got word that Micheal was there at SEGA of American headquarters, I assume working out details for the music on Sonic 3, and he had said he wanted to meet the team behind Sonic.

Knowing this I made sure to stay late that night. I then got a little too focused on what I was working on until I noticed that no one else was in the office. I then went across the hall to the confidence room and sure enough, that’s were everybody was, along with Micheal Jackson.

There were maybe dozen people in the room, including Micheal and a couple others (I am assuming a manager and a bodyguard?).

I slipped into the room and found a seat at the table, across from and a couple people down from from Micheal.

As I sat there I remember thinking that I was sitting across from someone who was probably the single most popular person on the planet, and that there where people who would LITERALLY kill to be where I was sitting.

Micheal was wearing a hat and dark sunglasses (which he never took off). He was also on crutches, my understanding being that he had injured an ankle while rehearsing for a TV commercial.

I don’t remember much about what was talked about other than Micheal was very soft spoken and very, very free with his compliments towards the team and the game.

I know I said something to him or asked him a question… but I can’t remember what.

At the end of the meeting we gave him a STI jacket. I believe it was actually our office manager’s jacket. While there are lots of pictures of him wearing a SEGA letterman’s jacket, I haven’t seen any pics of him wearing the STI jacket.

At the end of the meeting Micheal gave Naka and Yasuhara an extended applause for their work on Sonic 1 & 2.

Our interpreter was a guy named Daisuke and he was SO nervous the whole time, but he did great!

At some point later, Micheal invited Naka and Yasuhara to come visit him and spend an afternoon at ‘Neverland’ ranch. I remember Yasuhara saying something about being impressed with Micheal’s pet giraffe and his ferris wheel!

Micheal’s visit to STI was just after he had been on the Oprah Winfrey Show (February 10, 1993). Unfortunately, shortly there after the accusations of child abuse came out and SEGA distanced themselves, so he never did the music for Sonic 3.

(There is a LOT more to the story about what Jackson did and didn't do with regards to the music for Sonic, but I don't have any direct knowledge about those events)

Looks like they found the rest of the OVA's OST too!
People have wanted this for years, especially the South Island theme (18:15) so this is pretty amazing.
EDIT: There are a lot of tracks on here that weren't actually used in the OVA. The one at 13:51 is actually incredible.
