You're saltier over this Xigbar thing than Nomura with his "Verum Rex" shenanigans. :monster:

You might (or maybe you won't :monster: ) find it somewhat illuminating that some fans have been predicting for close to a decade some form of Xigbar/Braig either actively being behind everything or at least manipulating circumstances enough to arguably make him responsible for the events of KHI & II -- and at least one fan guessed more than two years ago that he is Luxu:

... Wow.

I have no words.

Granted I also kinda saw Xigbar/Braig being the one goading Terranort (with amnesia) to experiment on hearts, the other theories are... Surprising to say the least.

That fan guessing Xigbar is Luxu had a mindmeld with Nomura. Lol it still is ridiculously convoluted as fuck but.. Wow. That's funny.

Well, I for one knew that Xigbar would end up getting Xehanort's Keyblade for years now, but I had also doubt myself on that theory because I thought I would be wrong and it could've either been Marluxia next given his status or someone else entirely. But I never thought it was Xigbar who started the whole experiment thing. I always thought it was Xehanort with amnesia who started the whole thing along with Ansem the Wise in order to get his memories back.

I'm both amused and irked by Toybox's version of video games, given it's canon that this is 1998, but they have Wii style consoles, and PS4 quality game cinematics. Everything else is pretty close to the kind of stuff I remember as a kid.

So I'm just going to randomly post about things that stand out or are interesting to me.

Like. Who the fuck is Sora posting these in-universe equivalent to tweets to? They even have hashtags. #sky, #sea, #whereheartsreturn

I don't know if it's corny, stupid, or interesting at this point. I'm not sure who this is going to or being read by.

The beginning "Dive into the Heart" was the same as every other version except with the instagram-like memory photos of all his past adventures. An amusing if rather on-the-nose reference of the time period this game is being released in. I kinda love-hate those kind of 4th wall breaking Easter eggs.

LMAO very funny.

So this is the game's way of having Sora communicate with the player? That's a bit meta for KH.

On another note. Does Phil just not talk anymore? Cause he's riding with Meg but he hasn't said like a damn thing. It's kinda weird. :mon:

This game dunks on Sora harder than I do.

I love it.

Mickey: Aqua's just like Sora.
Riku: ...What?!?! *horrified face*
Mickey: No no! I mean, *strong* like Sora!
Riku: ...Oh. Okay. Well, Sora could fall into *any* darkness and swim his way out of it!

I'm kinda bummed we didn't get to fight Hades again. That conclusion seemed a tad anti-climactic. But Mt. Olympus looked amazing. The area was incredible looking. And as I expected, the setting is looking great. Hercule's story felt integrated into the plot rather well. I'm glad for that at least.

Kinda hilarious that Heartless in the World of Darkness are strong enough to snap keyblades in half.

And I love how this plot keeps bludgeoning me with emphasis on Sora's gift of connecting with other hearts he's encountered, yet an entire world housing the first friends he made after Donald and Goofy are just casually omitted from this game entirely. :mon:

They blew their load on the three titan fight, although yeah, it does feel a bit strange that they leave the story unfinished. Hades last line pretty much screams "Sequel material"

Maybe they're saving more of the Hercules story of KH Universe for the next saga.

On another observational note, these loading screens are like... The inner thoughts/monologues of characters put together in a social media-esque format.

For whatever fucking
reason :mon:

Just got one from Mickey talking about Yensid and how his damn tower pops up out of nowhere randomly. #mymentor, #formerkeyblademaster, #mysterioustower

I seriously hope the game does these for the villains. That would be too perfect.

On another note, the Gummi minigame is awesome.

But.. The glowing effect on walls and buildings to indicate you can run up them is fucking obnoxious. This looks horrible in Twilight Town. What the fuck made them think this was okay...?

Anyways there's something I want to say about this game so far before going further and forgetting.

I totally love the transition to Riku and Mickey in the World of Darkness after Sora's adventure on Mt. Olympus. It felt so smooth and natural. I especially loved how they gave the player a chance to not only see Riku's adventure with Mickey, but also explore the world of darkness again with him after all those years ago. Tracking down Aqua's continued presence in the world in different areas, looking for clues while having Riku shares with Mickey his thoughts on his journey and growth.. The player got a feel of the new Riku in battle here, as he fights various Heartless mobs with The King, which culminate in the boss fight against the Demon Tower at the Dark Margin, where his keyblade breaks from overuse in the Realm of Darkness. That was a cool breather and transition from Sora who's lighthearted adventure contrasts with Riku's more serious one.

Oh wait. That didn't happen.

That would be the alternate version KH3 that actually paces its progression properly so its story makes sense and flows naturally between its own unique story and the Disney Worlds. :mon:

Like. Why didn't they do that? The story tees it up so perfectly. Like... It just fits so naturally with the narrative and helps the story feel more cohesive. How did they miss it? It wouldn't even be hard to design, just reintegrate the assets from KH 2.8 that Aqua visited.

Such a simple addition makes Riku being playable feel more organic, meaningful and like it wasn't just... Shoehorned into the game there. The fact you don't even get a chance to look at Riku's abilities or get a feel for them is stupid. I didn't know what any of his abilities or combos were since you're thrown into a random boss fight with a character you hadn't used before and don't have any idea what his abilities, stats, or combos are. That was frustrating to say the least.

And there are so many points they could easily have shown Radiant Garden, it's inhabitants and what they're up to. The scene where Riku and Mickey look around for clues on Xehanort/Terra and see the area where they disappeared and reappeared with Dilan escorting them there is one example. The scenes where Ienzo contact Sora at the computer and let him know what's up is another. Why would Cid, Leon, Aerith or Yuffie NOT be there helping Ienzo on that front especially since that entire computer area in the castle was were where the FF characters worked and investigated Ansem's research in the first place?

The spots where the plot is just wide open and ready to be delved in are just so glaring. Sora not even asking about his previous friends from Radiant Garden is just jarring and awkward given how the plot leaves it so obvious in how they could be there. Nomura saying he didn't know how to fit them in the plot or anything is a crock of shit because there are holes in their shape just floating there in portions of the storyline. It's not like the plot is so fast paced and heavy that they just don't get brought up. So far it's long and meandering in its progression between each world. Unless the staff had no event planner or scenario writer in charge of Kingdom Heart's continuity, there's no reason someone on writing staff couldn't go, "hey Nomura, so-and-so lives here on this world and is connected to Sora in X-Y-and-Z. Maybe you should have them appear here and drop a hint or mention to have the continuity fit the progression?"

Like, does nobody do that over there with Nomura or something? Like, what the fuck do the writers do over there?

I don't know how no one else would pick up on this. It sticks out like a huge sore thumb to me.

Pretty sure you were joking about the X-Y and Z part, but was that from the Pokemon series and Anime, or something else?

No, it was just an example. Those are just place-holder variables. X, Y, and Z can be anything. Like "so-and-so" could be any FF character in Radiant Garden that's not in here. I was just speaking generally and using that as an example.

"Hey Nomura, Squall lives in Radiant Garden and he also did research and uncovered Ansem's Reseach inside the old castle here and the computer room. Maybe you should have him appear here and drop a hint or mention to have the continuity between the games fit?"

Someone like, should've said that.

Also, I guess I'll officially turn in my Man Card, but I have legitimately had an "awwwwww" moment in every Hundred Acre Wood level throughout the Sora-focused games, and this one is no exception. Not as much as the one from KHII, but it still made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

The Monster's Inc world fit so perfectly with Kingdom Hearts, it's not even funny. I think this might be my favorite new world included in this game.

Toy Story pleasantly surprised too. I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, it was pretty exciting and Young Xehanort's experiment there really fit.

Unsurprisingly, the more the KH story is able to have leeway with the Disney worlds and not just have it be a rehash of the movie, co-starring Sora, the better the world flows narrative-wise. By taking elements from the Disney film that actually meld and are in line with KH's lore, and combining it KH, you can actually make a unique story that's interesting and in line with the Disney source material. Using the plot thread of Monster Inc previously using fear, a negative emotion, as a power source that lured Vanitas' heart to that world so that he would use said negative emotions to rebuild himself, was brilliant. That coupled with the exciting level and gameplay was superb. The level didn't seem like some awkward detour from the plot.

Like Kingdom of Corona did. :mon: Aside from Rapunzel being a princess, that entire world just felt like it was included because they wanted a popular Pixar movie to fill the slot.

Which is a shame cause I loved that movie. However, that world just did not jive. It felt like a chore with only a cursory connection to the original KH plot.

EDIT: Just when I was really loving the plot progression and how it was going, Merlin's dumbass appears and fucking throws 100 Acre Woods at me AGAIN. FOR NO REASON. It's 2019, why is this book fucked up again?

FML.

Tangled's not done by Pixar, though. Neither is Frozen. The only Pixar films in KH3 are Toy Story(which is the MAIN reason why KH3 took so long) and Monsters Inc(which I admittedly was never too keen on).

And yeah I kinda agree with the Hundred Acre Wood part. Not saying it's a bad world, but why did Nomura pick that one over Agrabah when the King of Thieves Story had more excitement to it? Apart from the New Princesses of Heart silliness, could it be because unlike other Disney Trilogies, the third and last Aladdin film had a new final Antagonist and no Jafar(apart from the brief face mask Genie used in the beginning of the film)?
