Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Apparently it’s actually just due to SE twitters merging and the process involved in it.

Still it is fun to joke about it being in response to the luke warm E3 presentation (which honestly I is likely to be true in general this year, we’re finally seeing the delayed effects of COVID-19 affecting publicity and works that can be shown).

In case anyone forgot what the FF1 story was more or less... here's a rough outline...
Lufenain used Wind Crystal's power to craft the Flying Fortress and airships
Tiamat, the fiend of wind darkens the Wind Crystal
the Lufenairn country declines

Kraken, fiend of water sinks the water shrine and darkens the Water Crystal

Shortly before "Present" Day
Lich, fiend of earth darkens the Earth Crystal
Melmond's plains and vegetation decay
Lukahn, a sage, tells of a prophecy that the four Warriors of Light will save the world in a time of darkness
Marilith, fiend of fire wakes up due to the WoL coming back and darkens the Fire Crystal

"Present" Day
four Warriors of Light appear, one with each darkened crystal
WoL travel to the Chaos Shrine in Cornelia, defeat Garland and take Princess Sarah home
King of Cornelia rebuilds bridge the leads to the east of the country

WoL liberate the town of Paravoka from pirates and get pirate ship

WoL travel across the Aldean Sea, but get trapped in it by a large rock
the rock can only be removed by a powder in Castle Cornelia, but the key to where it is is held by a sleeping elven prince
WoL get a stolen crown from the king, Astos, who put the prince in a sleep in the first place
WoL get Matoya's Crystal from Astos and give it to Matoya
Matoya makes herb to wake up prince
Prince gives WoL key to get to Nitro Powder to give to dwarves to remove the rock in the Aldean Sea

WoL get to rest of the world (finally)
WoL go to Melmond and fight and kill the Lich, fiend of Earth
WoL go to Mount Gulg and fight and kill Marilith, fiend of Fire

WoL get airship
WoL go to Cardia Islands to meet with the dragon King Bahamut
Bahamut tells them to survive Citadel of Trials
when WoL do, Bahamut upgrades their job crystals

WoL go to Onrac and fight and kill Karaken, fiend of Chaos
WoL go to Flying Fortress and fight and kill Tiamat, fiend of Wind

even with all the Fiends dead, the power of the Crystals is still being absorbed though a time portal in the Chaos Shrine

WoL travel 2,000 years into the past!

2,000 Years Ago
WoL meet and defeat the Four Fiends made by Chaos
Chaos now can't send the Four Fiends into the future to bring Garland back into the past
Chaos turns out to be a Garland that was brought back to the past by the Four Fiends
Garland had created a time-loop to live forever

WoL defeat Garland, ending the time loop
WoL travel back to their present

"Present" Day Redux

because the Four Fiends would never be sent into the Future to get Garland, they would also never be created by Chaos
so the Crystals are never darkened by them
this means the WoL never were WoL and never had to save the world in the first place
so no one, including the WoL remember what they did to save the world
Can I just say... the idea of throwing a bunch of modern-day looking protagonists in this is hilarious in all the wrong ways.

It feels a lot like what Capcom tried with DmC.... only to realize that no, people actually liked DMC and they really should just have continued that series...

Why SE tries to keep making experimental content under the Final Fantasy name that don't feel like they fit the Final Fantasy brand image never fails to amuse me. I guess they need *some* kind of selling point other than "we're trying out a new game style" given how well that has gone for them in the past...
