I'm sufficiently interested, and I think that now that the BvS trailer is out, the tone of the DCCU is a little more clear, and I think that this fits right in.

Looks alright, but I don't really like the way the Joker looks. It feels like they're trying to hard.

I'm pretty sure the casting of Will Smith as Deadshot has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with the fact that Will Smith is an incredibly talented actor. We all remember Idris Elba as Heimdall right? It's not like Deadshot being white is an important part of his character, and he usually wears a mask anyway. I actually really like the decision to cast Will Smith as Deadshot, and I think he'll do a great job, plus the fact that he's in it will probably help a lot with sales, as Will Smith movies are almost always successful.

My fear with Will Smith as Deadshot is that as much I love Will, he is a very vain kind of guy in my book. He doesn't seem like the type to be gun ho to keep the mask on a ton and I think they will find any excuse to get it off immediately to keep his face in shot a majority of the time. And don't get me wrong I know a LOT of actors are this way I just frickin love the Deadshot outfits and am sad that I'm sure they will find multiple reasons to show him out of most of it.

That said what surprises me most is how well Diablo looks in video compared to how he looked in the early cast shots. As I said in the other thread he legitimately looked a caricature and that I know someone in my hometown who looks exactly like that (seriously lol). In video though the tattoos look really really well done and not janky at all lol.

Movie looks great. Shame it had to leak, DC are pretty mad about apparently. On one hand I feel like a jerk for watching it because it was really for the SDCC attendees, on the other hand fuck those guys, I want to see it.

I'm really digging Leto's Joker, a lot, and it looks like they've nailed Harley. Can't wait til they release something officially!

DC aren't really in a position to be complaining, this isn't the first time videos from their conferences have leaked. So clearly they're not doing a very good job at preventing that from happening.

For the record I always thought restricting trailers for attendees is a stupid idea.

I just read about the trailer leak. But it's not really a leak if people have already seen it? I mean in today's age where computer's are being produced to be worn on eyes what do people expect?

I don't actually; the theme of the movie is grimdark, the story - based on the trailer - is paper-thin (something vague about bad guys that apparently aren't all that bad saving the world from Something Unspecified), the characters... who are they anyway? Is the non-comic-book-reading person supposed to know them from anywhere? etc.

The non comic book reader will know Harley and Joker and maybe think Deadshot is a mashup between Deadpool and Slade/Deathstroke. Otherwise... No =/

Idk about them being not all that bad. Their only saving the world because there is a bomb attached to their skulls :monster:

The Non-Comic reader will most likely recognize Harley and Joker, even though Harley hasn't been in a big movie yet she is still kind of a staple type of character like Wonder Woman. Not to mention she was pretty prominent in the Batman TAS which is a staple for a lot of peoples childhoods and has been up and down a ton of other types of spin offs and merchandising.

After that I think Killer Croc is recognizable due to TAS as well and maybe a few other things. After that heck as a Comic reader I still barely recognized some of the characters (especially Diablo as his latest incarnation is the one I always forget about).

edit:

Also I've come to the conclusion that Joker has a grill cause Batman keeps knocking his teeth out :monster:

Harley... nope, hasn't been in any movie that I remember, :monster:

Well not just movies but video games and the animated series, so she is fairly well known... plus ALL THE MERCHANDISE there is of her out there is hard to ignore :monster:

I hate that the word 'grimdark' has entered into common vernacular these days. Is the story paper thin? How would you know that? It's a collection of footage from a movie which is still in the midst of filming, cobbled together from what they've managed to shoot already and was NEVER intended for wide release. The footage doesn't show enough of the characters personalities to determine that they "aren't all that bad", how do you reach that? Why does it matter if non-comics readers know who the characters are already? That didn't seem to be an issue for the success of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy didn't need to establish 9 or so 'protagonists', if you will.

I mean, color me interested in the premise. I'm not a massive comic book fan but I enjoy the concepts and I enjoy the films. There are articles which very neatly explain some great strengths of this particular premise which I find really clever.
But it is absolutely valid to have concerns about the narrative structure when the main cast appears to be a relatively large group of mostly minor supervillains.

I was also slightly put off by the dark tone of the trailer. Perhaps not "grimdark", but definitely something to that degree that I did not expect from what honestly looked to be (up until that point, from an outside perspective) a wacky, crossover-like, more niche concept.

Not feelin' this one. I'm not familiar with the comic; I just know the Joker and Harley are in it.. and their portrayal in this is kinda meh. Plus they casted Jai Courtney, the franchise killer.

Also, I wonder why Joker is still young and Batman is old in this universe.

We can't possibly know how old he is meant to be; Leto is actually a year older than Affleck so who's to say they're not incorporating his real world age-defying magic into the movie?

Also to an extent Joker has always been universally young looking.
Even in DKR he looked reasonably younger than the 55 year old RETIRED Batman despite both of them still being long rivals since the beginning in that universe.

I really like that they cast Leto for that very reason as well as it is a stark contrast to the aged look Afleck is sporting for his portrayal of Bruce who's been Batman for atleast 20 years by this point.

Also even though we only have very short lines of his performance I want to say he nailed it. That voice is pretty great, has a nice nod to the Ledger take and that laugh. God that laugh was great.

The movie isn't out yet, we don't really know what their portrayals are going to end up like. Some of us have a general idea and they seem to remember that Dr. Harleen Quinzel was a smart and talented doctor before snapping. Not just Joker's girl and if I'm right I'll be extremely happy about it.

I meant how they look in the movie. From seeing the pictures and now this trailer, I'm still not sure about it. Anyone who saw Batman the animated series knows about Harley's origin, and it looks like we'll see some of that in the film, only darker.
