I think the difference is that Aerith needs to be protected but doesn't like to be (although she likes the idea of people being willing to protect her), whereas Tifa can look after herself but would actually like to be rescued once in a while.

Aerith is the token non-com, after all.

I've met Clerith who find both sites to be an embarassment..

As well they should.

Oh that's interesting, it's yet another parallel between Zack and Aerith and Cloud and Aerith...

Though the difference is that this was before Zack properly met and got to know Aerith, but Cloud's was long after, so Cloud held onto the motherly vibe whereas Zack went on to date the girl.

As I've said before, Cloud expresses understanding, Tifa expresses intent. "Hey, Tifa, it'll be okay, even if we die, we can meet all our fallen friends again, Aerith included." "Then let's go meet them/ her together", in longhand.
And if Cloud DID want to meet her again as they claim, why didn't he just hop back into the lifestream?

Remember she always wasn't though. Aerith was hurt a lot and now she sees her second change down to friggin "falling into her life" part with Cloud. Ya, she sees Tifa has feelings for Cloud, everyone does. But I think she gets almost possessive right away because deep down she's really terrified of loosing this second change.

Unless she's going back to the church to wait for a third boy to fall through her roof who acts similar to Zack, where's his clothes, has his sword...

I actually believe Tifa wouldn't have even said much if Cloud chose Aerith. There isn't just much to support that she would in the game; even her "Oh, I get it" is still much milder than it could've been. (Anyone knows what she actually said in the original Japanese version?)

Cloud's decision at the end of FFVII was to be with Aerith, to "meet her there" ("there" being The Promised Land).

If that line is supposed to show his decision, then it doesn't speak much of his conviction to be with Aerith when he proposes to live with Tifa mere hours later.

Indeed. I all falls into that wanting to be over Zack but not really being over him and chasing the last phantoms she sees in Zack.

Pretty much the same as the english, except I'd say the 'excuse me' sounds more wounded or possibly sarcastic than outright angry.

If that long. But yes, the 'I wanna go see Aerith' take of that line doesn't fit, and here's an amusing and deliberately silly vignette to add to my point.

I'd have thought the answer to this was fairly obvious by now... While Cloud loves Aerith to death (and beyond)...
... he's just too sensible afraid to die for his love. The loser.

It's one of those contextual things. In another situation, I'd probably use 'I see', but 'so that's how it is' struck me as sounding more bummed at that point.

Oh yeah, that's true. I remember how you get minus affection points if you ask her to fight or push the wrong barrel in the game. Though at times I think she does want to be protected, but she doesn't want to underestimated.

She and Tifa are pretty much alike in this aspect. But for Tifa, I think she wants to be saved. Aerith wants to be protected. Hence the Aerith's bodyguard/Tifa's hero thing.

I think SE made some effort to draw these parallels in CC to show how Zerith > Clerith. AC/C shows this as well. Well, it shows Clack > Clephiroth > Cloti > Clerith, actually.

So, I went on a trip down memory lane, and watched the first ep of Mork and Mindy.

Now, Mork, a stranger to Earth who speaks english but doesn't quite get a lot of its meanings, says to Mindy's dad 'we're living together' causing a major misunderstanding between Mindy and her dad, as Mindy has to explain that Mork didn't mean what her dad thought he had meant.

It just reminds me of all the hemming and hawwing and insiting statements on the lines of 'living together' and such not meaning anything romantic like.

I mean, back over 20 years ago such things were understood as such, so much so basic humor could be derived without needing to explain at all, yet in the present day, such understanding is alien to these people, and this meaning is now unworkable.

In unrelated news, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Mork and Mindy- same continuity. Reminds me of the FF10- FF7 thing.

To say nothing of the Hillside Blues-iverse.

Marlene seems to still live with Cloud, Tifa, and Denzel, and Barret still seems to be doing his thing.

The thing is, would Barrett come back to live in Seventh Heaven eventually? There's no where else for him to go afterall and Marlene is very attached to Tifa so I doubt he'd take Marlene away somewhere else.

Unless he's going to spend the rest of his days finding himself, which seems unlikely because Barrett is bound to have a conclusion to his story and self-searching eventually.

If he moved back in it could possibly hinder any development between Cloud and Tifa (provided you don't think they're already a full-on couple).

Barret moving back in with Cloud and Tifa would most definitely not hinder Cloud and Tifa's relationship. Unless we see a Barret x Tifa x Cloud love triangle going on with people who believe it to be so.

In my opinion, he seemed to be really gung-ho about the whole oil thing. Once he makes it big as an oil tycoon, I could see him buying a bigass mansion for himself and Marlene.

I guess I Just feel bad for Marlene cause she doesn't get to see him much. I know she's attached to Tifa and Cloud but I personally don't think it's fair for Barret to just kinda leave her there.

I always assumed he'd eventually, as Ninra said, find a place for him and Marlene to live.

I doubt he'll move back in. Perhaps move in nearby, though.

In Reminiscence isn't Barret referred to as having his own place? I'm pretty sure Cloud is told to head to Barret's place to pick up a package. Barret gives him gifts for Denzel and Marlene too, so I'm thinking that his moving back in is completely unlikely.

He wasn't really there all that long to begin with if I remember right.

I could totally see him as some dude on Cribs. That's why he's getting a mansion.

Even if on Cribs, the only thing he'd talk about would be Marlene. He'd have an understated house, well kept, but everything he'd buy for Marlene would be ridiculously expensive, and she'd be seen lecturing him that he didn't need to keep buying her stuff, especially such pricey stuff.
