I don't understand where the spirit sexks arguement came from. Loving someone even after death is not a new concept in literature or games. Ashe loved Rassler, Vincent loved Lucrecia (though her situation is more complex than just simple dying), Laguna probably still loves Ellone, and Yuna loved Tidus (ignoring X-2 because ugh). It's just a matter of opinion on whether or not Cloud falls into this category or not. I never thought the arguement was that he would somehow find her dead body for some hot necrophilia action.
When I make comments about romance post mortem, I do mean they think there's a relationship going on.
All of the first part of the game. Cloud had a special relationship with her different from the rest . It's the same way with Zack, both Cloud and Aerith cherished him. That doesn't mean that because they both cherish him, they are both either in love with him or not.
How is is relationship with her different from anyone else's with her- Tifa's, for example- aside from the bodyguard thing and her having affection for him? What SHOWS the romance?
Aerith was clearly a romantic interest in the game, she died a romantic interest.p
Aerith as a romantic interest DIED when she did. That anyone insists otherwise is rather absurd. In all the cases save 10-2, no one suggests there is a ROMANCE potential any longer, and even in 10-2, Yuna only started back up once she got shown a sphere with what appeared to be Tidus in it.
And moreoever, with 10-2, we were explicitly shown her feelings for him.
Cloud somehow turned into Squall after the ending of the game and we have little insight to his true inner thoughts, so where he stands is up to debate.
No, we have PLENTY of fucking insight to his inner thoughts. We are told plenty of times what Cloud thinks and feels, like that Tifa is an important woman to him, that he's happy with her and the kids, and the happier he becomes with them, the more the guilt of his past failures eats at him and the more he worries for his family, etc.
NOTHING. NOT A GOD DAMN THING about wanting to pursue a romance with a dead woman. This is the sort of thing you must be VERY explicit about, certain people's insistence to the contrary notwithstanding.
As a CloudTifa, I honestly think he moved on. Some people think he didn't. That's fine too.
There was nothing to move on FROM. At no point does Cloud indicate he wants to pursue Aerith. He is oblivious of her intent the entire time, and mere weeks later, he's spending the night with Tifa and asking her to be by his side as he begins his new life.
I think it just stems from some Cleriths using the argument that Aerith lives on inside of Cloud as proof of their romantic relationship.
AerithX AVALANCHE, whoo!
They always forget the whole 'hold her within their hearts' bit. And that their lovely quote is general, not specific. The dead live on in the consciousness of the living.
There was also a topic at CxA saying that Aerith could solidify for Cloud at any time... which ... you know could lead to them having sex at any time
They didn't actually SAY the sex thing but... yeah...
Yeah, they meant sex. I like how they treated that as fact despite zilch zero and nada to back it up.
