i'm the only one who, everytime see Thrainduil sit on his throne in that way, think Thranduil singing i'm just a sweet tranvestite?
also, I see why Rivendell is called 'The Last Homely House East of the Sea'. just look at Thrainduil and his obsession for elks. (ok, i'm joking, but he's definatly not like a elven king should be and one thing is riding a elk in a battle, another is having a throne made by elks' horns)

^^The Mirkwood elves are way more down-to-earth then the Rivendell elves are (and not always in a good way). They also have never been as powerful as the Rivendell elves have been, as they weren't in anyway involved in the making of the Rings of Power and stuff.

As far as ME history goes, the Rivendell elves are descended from elves that left ME and then came back more powerful then when they left, while the Mirkwood elves never left ME in the first place. TBH, they are probably one of the oldest civilizations in ME at the moment. They've also got Souren in southern Mirkwood to deal with, so they're not exactly at peace. And Dwarf/Elf relations have never been that good to begin with.

i know the silmarillion (read it last year).
i know everything about the Noldor, Sindar,Avari etc. and I know about the Doriath (which is, iirc, the kingdom which ispired Mirkwood, since those who lived in the Doriath now live in Mirkwood and Lothlorien)
i just noted that Thrainduil(who is Sindar) look tresh when Elrond(who is half Noldor half Sindar), Galandriel and Celembrion (who is Sindar) look solemn and kingly.
let's say that i don't think Thingol ever sitted how Thranduil sits in the Hobbit.

i don't know if i'm more clear now.

This is a lower quality version of the trailer (with subtitles), but the colour balance is a little different than the official trailer for some reason, and it lets you see Smaug's face a lot better at the end.

Well, he may have been, but he wasn't identified by name. Given who his father is, t's probable that he was present, though, at least for the Battle of Five Armies if not sooner.

Legolas doesn't appear in the book The Hobbit. That being said, Thranduil is his dad, and there's no reason that he wouldn't have been there at the time, but the mythology wasn't developed by Tolkien as heavily until The Lord of the Rings was written.

The film trilogy that is composed of An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and There and Back Again tells the story of The Quest of Erebor (the story in the book The Hobbit about the Dawrves' quest to take back their home from Smaug), as well as the events with the White Council dealing with The Necromancer which is only offhandedly mentioned in the book and is fleshed out within the Appendices of Return of the King (this is how Sauron returns and deals a little bit with Saruman being corrupted), along with some extra content by Peter Jackson (like Tauriel to make a more gender-balanced story). Essentially this is not JUST telling the story from that one book, but it is also showing how all of the elements that brought about the War of the Ring came into place that lead into The Fellowship of the Ring within Middle Earth at that time.

tl;dr - the Hobbit trilogy of films is really just building a completely unified version of Peter Jackson's cinematic vision of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth (which I hope to one day own as a complete BluRay set) that begins with the events of The Hobbit, and ends with The Return of the King. :awesomonster:

The end of an incredible adventure that began in 1999.
I'm feeling very sad right now."
