Expecting three years between releases seems sensible. In fact, that'd be fast imo. Maybe the last one can be two years with heavy asset reuse. But I expect part 2 in 2023 at the earliest and part 3 in 2026 at the earliest and then maybe part 4 in 2028 if we're lucky. :monster:

The fact the Yuffie thing is already almost out the door as a side project only a year later is giving me a lot of hope for shorter turn-around times in the future.

These days, AAA sequels take 4+ years to make:

Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) -> Horizon Forbidden West (2021)

God of War (2018) -> God of War Ragnarok (rumored 2022)

Splatoon 2 (2017) -> Splatoon 3 (2022)

Breath of the Wild (2017) -> Breath of the Wild 2 (???)

I've seen the argument that future parts should take less development time considering asset reuse and internal workflows being established. However, one could say the same about the sequels above. Character and enemy models, basic animations, menus, the above sequels could and should reuse those assets, yet they're still taking 4+ years to develop. The standard is just that high these days.

Development time saves from asset reuse doesn't necessarily equate to us getting parts quicker. That saved time could be used to improve other areas of the games or make even newer assets. Keep in mind that the Sector 5 and Sector 7 slums, two areas were you would expect heavy asset reuse, are completely distinct. This will be even more true of towns in future parts

That being said, I do believe part 2 will release in 2023. Square Enix doesn't have the wild quality control that Sony or Nintendo exhibit (from the examples above). However, at no point do I think we'll be getting parts on a two-year basis or less.

Now they've changed the entire storyline with magical fate ghosts and time Daemons (??‍♂️) there is no telling how long it will be. Maybe a fairy will wave a wand and speed up the first disc and miss loads out ?‍♂️. I've heard rumours that Fort Condor is going to be missed out. Maybe it's due to some alien which uses technology to fast forward reality with an enchanted butt plug? After that ending from FF7R part 1 there is literally no telling with anything. ANYTHING can happen now and all preconceptions from the original game are moot.

It also was already confirmed to be a real location as well in the World Preview short story.
So it will probably be involved in the main scenario in some way, but the mini-game aspect might be separated from it.

Also even with the new/added plot elements, Nomura again reiterated a couple weeks ago that the overarching story is still following the OG, thus speculation on the future installments structure is still a more than reasonable and feasible endeavor.

I'm starting to come around to the "Nibelheim to Nibelheim" prediction for part 2.

Like Red XIII in Part 1, Vincent could be a guest character for the last few chapters. Then have Cid star in another intermission DLC afterwards.

A big priority for me is to have the entire main cast appear as soon as possible. This would make that possible.

My idea for a Cid intermission DLC: Junon is the biggest city outside of Midgar. The Highwind is also stored there. That gives Cid a reason to visit the place and I'm sure the devs would be happy to reuse those assets. Write some Avalanche HQ subplot and we're good to go.

Yeah, I've come to think that Northern Crater would be the perfect end point - after believing that they'd do an Aerith death point because it would make a great ending for a part. However what I could see them doing is Nibelheim to Nibelheim, then Nibelheim to Northern Crater, then the rest. The third part of the OG is basically chasing after huge materia and Weapons, so I think everything can fit there starting the last game in Junon with Tifa. The third part would include a redesigned Wutai, Cid, ToA etc. If it was in 3 parts, it would be great, but seeing how they over-design everything, I think realistically, it should be 4 parts.

You'd really have three new characters then. Yuffie, Red XIII and Cait Sith. And how those three new characters fit and combine with the other four. There is only three character slots for an active team. So... effectively the team size is doubled with three more characters. Adding two more characters means you have nine characters and only used 1/3 of your team at a time.

I'd almost rather they introduce characters slower so we get more time with the characters they are added. So many characters in the OG feel ignored by the story once their arc is done. It would be a shame if it happened in Remake.

Would Nibelheim be epic enough for final boss battle?
I still stand that it's gonna end in Temple of Ancient and leave Aerith's fate as cliffhanger for the next part.
We'll all get 4 parts.

Mt. Nibel is prime material for a final dungeon, imo!

Before part 1, we were all wondering what the final boss would be. If I remember right, most people said Motorball would be horrible. After getting Whisper Harpinger/Sephiroth, I have no idea what kind of final boss they would come up with if we end at Mt Nibel

Would Nibelheim be epic enough for final boss battle?

After what we got for part 1 final boss, I'd say yes

It ends up with Roche becoming a mako-demon, Zacks show up, Sephiroth shows up, it definitely has ending material.

If the Part 2 begins with Seph's backstory, it's only fitting that it ends in Nibel.

I can't see them getting past Temple of the Ancients. Honestly, I have doubts that they will get as far as Nibelheim...but that is possible I guess, because it's one of the few decent places to stop part two. They can also end with another Sephiroth fight, because everyone likes seeing Sephiroth over and over (sigh), considering that he's waiting in the mansion basement. Vincent will also be there to help, so it should be fun.

I really think it's going to be Nibelheim to Nibelheim. I think some things are going to change a bit:
-Yuffie will join the party on the first continent for sure, maybe sooner than in the OG (before swamp, possibly). Detailing an adventure with her, chasing chocobos, trying to get through the swamp while she's stealing stuff (maybe making our materia reset to make the start of the game a tutorial-esque section) would make a lot of sense.
-Seeing the Turks in the Mythril Mines will be a big battle, probably, and possibly involve BC Turks (though not needed).
-I don't know if we'll do much with Ft. Condor this time around. If so, Ft. Condor will be expanded to possibly include other Shinra Rebels, including Veld and Felicia. It'll be a place of insight for Barret into his war and maybe even tension between him and Tifa about how many lives they need to take.
-Junon will be expanded and be quite the city to explore. We'll see more about Cloud's past as a grunt.
-Big Sephiroth/Jenova fight on the ship.
-Corel, Gold Saucer, and Cosmo Canyon will be great developments for Barret and Red XIII. Seeing Gongaga will be very important for Aerith and Cloud re: Zack. All of that I think is going to be hugely important. Seeing the expanse of Shinra, their reach, and their devastations. Seeing Scarlet at the Gongaga Reactor could be a big deal for Yuffie now.
-Nibelheim will change. It's going to get massive illusion the closer we get to the Reactor, probably saved by Vincent who can navigate the nightmare really well. Getting back into the past, the illusion that's normally saved for the Northern Crater, we might actually see Zack.
-I think the final boss will actually be... Genesis.

I know. I know, it's crazy and won't happen, but hear me out. With the ending of Remake, the storyline of the Whispers, the Planet may need to upgrade it's defenders in trying to keep the proper timeline in tact. Genesis could do that. It'd be a big twist that wouldn't completley interrupt the flow of the OG game. The party would be on their way to Rocket Town where they'll meet Cid at the start of Part 2 followed up by crazy events in Wutai. Vincent's insights on the Jenova Project will be critical for new players to understand what's going on, and Genesis can explain things the party and player need to know about timeline shenanigans and what not.

-I think they could then do some Cid DLC. However, I've another theory about the next DLC, though, which would essentially be DoC's Mulitplayer Mode revisited to build up some big changes going on in the storyline and continue with playing around with DoC stuffs.
If Sonon is the Player Tsviet, you get to then play with mechanics Cid would use, so the effect is the same. The Tsviets and Deepground gets a bit further explored, including Genesis's past, which works with him being the Part 2 boss.

Alternative DLC Option:
We might actually get something for Zack.

After this, Part 3 will pick up in Rocket Town and take us through a good chunk of the game yet, probably either the Forgotten Capital (which will be enough) or up through the Northern Crater and the party disruptions there.

I do think that at the Forgotten Capital,
Zack will save Aerith, something Sephiroth won't see coming. But it'll also ruin the chances of Holy and the Lifestream saving the Planet.
. I think that's how Part 3 will end, leaving some very serious questions lingering in the air.

Part 3 DLC would then be
Zack's journey to the Forgotten City to save Sephiroth, exploring his alternative timeline and/or events surrounding him getting into Remake timeline.

Part 4 would then be revisiting locations, essentially, so it should be easier to do. I expect the party will split up a little more than in the OG, more like in FF9, for getting the Huge Materia. I don't expect Part 4 to have any sort of DLC. Though, if it did, it would be something like AC as a game, or Sephiroth backstory... something not too critical to do. Cid won't need his own DLC as he'll be party leader.

My prediction for the twist ending of the saga though:
Genesis and the Tsviets will be present as the Planet's Champions (under Genesis's leadership) and they'll be trying to fix things, creating new bosses/enemies in the final dungeon. The final fight would be a threeway battle between Genesis, Cloud, and Sephiroth (mirroring the Junon fight that involved Angeal), possibly with the party choosing which fate to end with.

I wished hard for Motorball :monster:

Maybe revisiting the reactor could be not totally pointless this time.

I kinda liked that it was an out of the way thing that you know is there because of the story but is also totally out of your way to crossing the mountain range. But yes if Nibelheim is indeed the end, I'm sure Sephiroth will be in the reactor to show us 3.5 seconds before they end. And Materia Keeper will challenge us to a game of Fort Condor first.

If I had to make a baseless guess for how part 2 starts, it'd be something like this:

Starts in medias res with Cloud and Sephiroth in the truck on the way to Nibelhiem. Truck gets stalled out by monsters, leading to the crew having to walk the rest of the way. This is where tutorials about fighting enemies would be, and possibly team attack mechanics. Sephiroth is a far more valuable asset in these fights than Cloud, and has more competent AI than normal party members because he can't be controlled directly. The tutorial boss would be the dragon, which would be fought later on and not right after the truck crashes. After beating it. this is when we are shown that this is Cloud telling the rest of the party his story. The flashback plays out mostly like it did in the original game, with added detail. Maybe some allusion to Genesis, considering his involvement in the Crisis Core version? The flashback is the first chapter, or maybe even the first two.

Once Cloud is done with his story, the party goes to sleep in the inn. In the middle of the night, all of their equipment is stolen by a mysterious it's Yuffie come on you know it is. Kalm serves as the sector 7 of this game, as the town that introduces you to side quests and NPCs. The framing device is you looking for information on the thief who stole your things, as well as doing quests to get new materia and equipment (the mandatory quest would get everyone some new weapons, maybe killing monsters for the shop owner with them?) Eventually you find Yuffie somewhere, and she serves as the boss of this chapter. After beating her, we flashback to the new intergrade scene when they arrive outside Kalm, except this time we see Yuffie spot them and recognize Barret and Tifa as members of the splinter cell. She follows them and sees them go into the inn to get out of the rain, and then waits for her moment to steal the stuff and do whatever with it. Why does she steal your things? I dunno. After this flashback we see that it's part of her explaining herself to the party, and what her situation is. Her relation with the other Avalanche group is enough for the party to tentatively accept her into the fold, and then they continue from there.

All of this will be wrong, but that's my best guess.
