I mean, I posted before that I was going approach this part 1 as a gift of a tech demo of FF7 as though there would never be any more parts. Just a way to enjoy existing and... being in Midgar. So I think I'm emotionally prepared for that.

Seems unlikely at this point. Although, I guess if it continues to careen off the rails, it could still technically be true.

The “unknown journey will continue” line promises a future for the requelverse franchise but whether that’s another AAA game is not actually guaranteed. Nothing in the marketing said explicitly that it was going to be a series of AAA games, in exactly the same way as the marketing never said explicitly that Final Fantasy VII Remake was “a remake.” So no one is allowed to get salty if there’s never a part 2, because creative freedom means no one can criticize you :monster:

Slightly more seriously, though: considering the dynamic timeline, the unknown journey continuing could very well be First Soldier and other compilation entries.

The devs have talked of being aware of scenes that fans are anticipating so I’m expecting more of what we got already, the core story being the same but layered with expansions and alterations

It's been amusing seeing them seem to not be able to make up their mind on that point, lol. "It'll still be FF7, BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT WE MEAN BY REMAKE, OKAY? JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE THE JUNON CANNON SHOOT WEAPON IN THE FACE DOESN'T MEAN WE'VE DECIDED TO DO A REMAKE"

Amusing isn’t the word I would use, lol, but as long as they give us the assets, the modding community will make “a remake” in short order.

They've definitely been explicit that there's going to be a follow-up to Remake's story. It doesn't have to be a AAA title, no, but some mobile stuff set in the past is clearly not what they've been talking about.

Funny that you mention MGS, as there are some light similarities...Big Boss as Sephiroth, Cloud as Solid? The Tsviets as Liquid's FOXHOUND, maybe. Genesis suffering from FOXDIE in Crisis Core.

No, and I do assume there will be a big PS5 title called FF7 Remake Destiny’s End or sommat. I’m just interested in exploring that assumption.

The idea that Fort Condor might be reduced to a diagetic minigame makes me think they might actually get to Meteorfall in Part 2 and make this a trilogy.

It will essentially be a full-scale game for each part of the multi-part series...

So, if we're just looking at each of these parts, one part should be on par with the scale of one Final Fantasy XIII game," Kitase said.

That same article where they say they’re sticking mostly to the original story? Yeah, okay.

Intermission just means a break, when they were used in the old super long movies. No rule it has to be 2 parts due to that.

Yeah, I was trying to make a dumb joke. I don't want there to be two parts, anyway. Mil

... But I'll take a AAA title.

I’m pretty sure they’ve made up their minds, it’s the fans who read too much into every single statement

I dunno what this precious “true” remake would have to offer at this point aside from stroking off the people who didn’t like where the remake went but I don’t doubt this fanbase’s ability to at least try lol

You say that like it isn't offering something

But yes we'd probably be looking at Skywind-like time scales

I mean I consider that statement to have held true so far. Mostly sticking doesn’t mean completely staying, there will be some additions and changes and that’s what’s happened so far. And the fact they said each part will take a while between each (at minimum a year or two IIRC), I think that makes the assumption each part will be a Triple AAA level game a fairly reasonable one.

I had voted for 3 games, but that was only if they remade the storyline of the OG game. Now, less than a month to the release of INTERGRADE and the DLC INTERmission I think differently. With the introduction of a lot of new and old characters in the REMAKE. I am starting to see a series of more than 5 games, maybe 7 games.

Not only do we have the Sephiroth/Jenova/Shinra arcs, but we also have expanded storylines for Wutai, Avalanche in the REMAKE. Now with the intergrade of Deepground and with them there is a possibility of Genesis' return as well there is no way they can finish all storylines within 3 or 4 games.

I am even starting to believe that the REMAKE series will go further beyond than Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus as well and give us more new content as the finale.

4-5 games + side-content means FFVII for the next ten or more years. God save us all.

How many Genesis can you handle

How are they going to cover an expanded version of the VII story in two more games?

Before part one, they said Midgar would be expanded by so much because it's one of the most popular locations in all of final fantasy games (if not any game). Unless they plan on expanding everything else to that magnitude, I think they can still finish out the rest of the story in two more parts.

I don't remember how long it took me to complete the main story of the OG. I think it'd be pretty easy to encompass that, even if expanded upon, in three parts though

It all depends on how they want to expand on the rest, but I agree that doing the rest is doable in 2 more parts. Globally, the only real big city is Junon. Kalm is a medium town, as is Costa del Sol. I still think that the Gold Saucer is going to be completely overhaul with new quests there because it's a big location in the players' hearts. They already have Nibelheim at least partly done with the flashbacks we already had and some key arts we already saw.

However, they might want to add too many locations from other Compilation games, so that might add to the load. I'm thinking 3 to 4 parts in total is probably the targetted scope, or was at some point!

Also depends on how they go about dividing up the story/world building load. They could potentially have three FFVIIR-sized titles along with multiple INTERmission-sized interludes. It's not clear at what point they decided to do the Yuffie DLC, whether it was always intended to be separate from a main game, etc.

I'm not expecting the other parts to get the midgar treatment, because if that happened the remake would finish in 2040. That being said, I'm not convinced that they can cover such a massive amount of material, fleshing it out to modern standards, in two games.

As a reminder, we still have: Kalm, the Nibelheim flashback, chocobo ranch, the marshes, the mithril mines, Fort Condor (?), Junon, the boat trip, Costa Del Sol, Corel, Gold Saucer, The Desert Prison with Dyne material, Gongaga, Cosmo Canyon, The Ghi material in the caves underneath, Nibelheim again, Shinra Mansion with Vincent and Sephiroth, the mountains with that annoying spider boss, Rocket Town, sailing in the Tiny Bronco, Gold Saucer again, the date with someone, the temple of the ancients and the heavy plot stuff that goes down there, Gongaga again, Bone Village and the digging for the Lunar Harp, The Sleeping Forest, the Forgotten Capital or whatever it's called, the Icicle Inn village with the Gast material, the snowboarding, the travel through the snow and mountains, the North Crater with the big drama material, the Highwind Execution stuff and the escape, Mideel, the big Materia Quests which involve the train and Corel challenge, the Mideel Cloud and Tifa psychological bit, Rocket Town again and travelling through space, Return to Midgar and settling things with Hojo, Wutai with the Yuffie material, the actual crater area, and finally the battle with Sephiroth.

Have fun breaking that -- in a modern, fleshed out style, where certain things could well be expanded upon, like Lucrecia or Zack -- into two games.
