And, the community seems pretty contradictory to what message they're trying to get across; being anti-gay and saying it's perverted to be gay is dumb as fuck. well being someone who regularly reads porn doujinshi, I can say this happens just as often with straight pairings where the guy is like 'HAHA I'MMA RAEP UR BUTT' to some chick. When you need lube.

Hell, it happens in romance novels, or they use lube that just wouldn't work (HONEY LUBE AND COCONUT MILK LUBE WHAT)

It all depends on how the person looks at it, tbh. For some, seeing any hot guys fucking gets them off. Period. It doesn't matter who they are, or what they are to each other. That's a fetishization. A fetish exists for everything, you know.

Imagining a scenario where two straight characters are gay isn't a fetish. However, habitually doing so is another story, especially if you feel particularly strongly about it or it gets you sexually excited BECAUSE it's two straight characters doing things they normally wouldn't.

Personally, I think the entire thing is stupid as hell. Ffs, live and let live, people. Who gives a shit if people like yaoi because of the romance or the chance to see one guy take it up the ass? For God's sake, it's not bothering you unless they're shoving it in your face.

Most fanfic is pretty much fetishised. Even if there's no sexual stuff in it, it usually serves as emotional porn. Or something.

Also, the problem with calling yaoi a fetish is that it implies a certain amount of abnormality to it. A fetish is usually a sexual fixation on something one usually not regarded as sexual. So something like a foot fetish for example, it's a fetish because generally feet aren't regarded as something sexual.

Yaoi/slash is a genre that deals with sexuality, so the sexual component is ingrained. The problem with calling yaoi/slash a fetish is to imply gay sex is something abnormal to get aroused by. Which... the issues of that are quite obvious. Then again, yaoi=/=gay porn so idk I think I maybe blurring the issue.

If anything, I'd maybe call fictional porn/animated porn/pornfic/pornographic fanart fetishes. Yaoi/slash happens to be subgenre of that.
