• I'm being moved back to morning shifts again. This sucks for several reasons:
  • I am not a morning person
  • Less time to get things done
  • More interruptions
  • I have to let people in every. five. minutes before the store opens (see: more interruptions)
  • Fifteen minutes of my shift are spent at a meeting, not shelving (see: more interruptions and less time to get things done)
  • Less time to myself at home
  At least they're giving me a week advance warning but still. Annoyed.
• The fucking stickers they use to mark percent-off prices. Some books are completely ruined because of them. We have two different editions of Rob Bell's Love Wins. Both of them are completely ruined. It's probably as much the fault of the cover types they use as anything, but I mean, the odds of them selling now are pretty much nil. I'm halfway tempted to tell the managers to send them back and request new copies because, I mean, I think they've been off the bestseller list for like four weeks and haven't sold a single copy in the entire time. And I'm sure it's down to the shitty covers, because they were selling pretty briskly before that.
• In related news, someone stickered all the copies of Tom Clancy and David Baldacci's new books in the wrong fucking corner. We didn't even have time to fix most of them.
• Sterling Publishing apparently doesn't take any returns. Even expensive hardback books. Which means this shit ends up languishing on our shelves wasting store space and not being sold until we put it in a clearance sale and sell it for a pittance.
• I was very explicitly told that I was to take my lunch at six-thirty. So I did. Five minutes after that I was called to the music section. The manager was sure I was supposed to cover music and that my break was supposed to be at six o'clock, despite the fact that I was very explicitly told to cover the registers at six o'clock (which I did, and it wound up being for forty minutes, I might add). Needless to say they found someone else to cover music, but they need to sort their shit out. And given the choice between the registers and music, I'd much rather have covered music.
• Those stupid fucking debit gift cards. Half the fucking time they don't work and half the time they're the cause of absurd amounts of bitching. Some customer bought the e-book edition of some book using the fucking thing, but due to some wi-fi error it didn't download. However, it still charged them for it, and it was still attached to their store account (so in other words it would have downloaded as soon as there wasn't an error). So when they presented the stupid debit gift card it didn't have the full $25 on it, which caused the customer to freak out, demand to see a manager in an incredibly snotty tone, and hold up the line for five minutes because the manager was busy and there was no one else to back me up. And then she had the nerve to complain about my attitude, even though I didn't start to get impatient with her until she snapped at me. I wanted to punch someone so hard.
• Mondays.

You're from Christchurch? I have a few friends and family there. Some of them moved to Brisbane where I live and don't want to go back. Hope you're doing okay.

Oh god, Blackboard is unbelievably shit....even when its supposedly functioning. Its like it was devised by someone who didnt know what a computer was and who couldnt understand how a search function should work. Yet loads of universities still use it... when I was doing my teacher training we attended a load of 'Blackboard Feedback' meetings and told the faculty that it was fucking shit. As far as I know theyre still using it.

I WOULDN'T GIVE BLACKBOARD TO A DOG!
