LOL wait whut....I love everyone in the party, but you can't deny that most of them are ballfuls of angst and emoness (I'm looking at you Cloud, Vincent and Red XIII) Hell even Barret has his moments of angst.

Okay it's probably pointless to argue with a troll but still.

No.

Cloud is not emo.

Neither is Red XIII.

Cloud is justifiably upset that Aerith died, and upset that Zack died. Only point in time he could be considered emo was AC wherein he was certain he was gonna die.

Red XIII I have no idea why you'd even consider him emo or angsty besides being upset he's the last of his kind (which he only mentions a few times) and his dad being dead.

Barret has an entire town that hates his guts and his wife is dead. No melodrama about it, it's just fucking fact that he has to deal with.

Wait so now I'm a troll....why do you think I'm a troll?? Just because I have a different opinion than you?? WOW....Tell me one time where I've ever done anything even remotely troll-like on this forum.

Gah.

I'm gonna disagree.

When AC first came out, I hated Cloud. D:

He wasn't emo exactly, but at the time, it was just downright irritating how pansy he was. Maybe because I loved him so much in FF7, after the LS sequence, I just wasn't used to this sudden change in attitude with the whole "I'm so full of guilt" thing.

I'm gonna get attacked for this but, the hell with it.

I don't know, AC Cloud just sucked. The way he treated everyone and the way he distanced himself made me think he was pretty selfish. When he got shot, I wanted him to die. He was such an abomination to the character I loved so dearly from FF7, I couldn't even finish the movie without cringing.

It played a part in why I sort of distanced myself from this fandom.

HOWEVER BEFORE YOU ALL JUDGE ME AND GO FOR THE KILL

I liked him better in AC/C and with the OTWTAS novellas, it really got me to better understand why it was he was acting in such a way. Re-watching it, I grew to like him again and dismissed the silly notion that he was being a self centered ass hat. :awesome: Although, yeah he still sort of was, he redeemed himself and went back to being himself. The novellas cleared up why he changed from the dorky moseying Cloud from FF7, so I couldn't call him 'emo' anymore.

I guess the compilation sort of justified him for me. It developed his character a bit better in AC and it wasn't just SE going: HE HAS DEADLY DISEASE + HE IS GUILTY = HE HAS RIGHT TO BE EMO/SELFISH/ASSHOLE.

And here it comes.

Actually Cloud is pretty emo IMO and I don't see how you can't see it. It's fine for him to be sad about Aeris and Zack which is justifiable and I'm not saying that being emo is a bad thing. Its pretty obvious though that Cloud has a huge chip on his shoulder from his past that he constantly dwells on throughout the game and hardly is ever shown to be happy.

As for Red XIII he has big time daddy issues, just look at what happened at Cosmo Canyon though thankfully he gets over it, but he does have issues during that part of the game.

Also I didn't include Barret in my list of emos because yeah Barret is not emo, (He's too awesome to be emo :monster:) I'm just saying that even he had some angst to deal with during his whole Dyne arc.

I notice though that you didn't comment on my Vincent choice :monster:

Agreed. What they did to AC Cloud was just annoying, Cloud definitely was more emo and "woe is me" in that film than he was in the game.

First of all that was in the general discussion thread so it was perfectly acceptable. Second of all I honestly believe that and if you don't agree with me tough luck because that's my opinion and that's how I see things. Someone having different views does not a troll make.

His ENTIRE TOWN GOT BURNED TO THE GROUND BY SEPHIROTH

I'd love to see you NOT dwell on that shit.

But that's the time it only ever pops up is Cosmo Canyon. Otherwise he's just a 'teenager' trying to find his way in life. It's not like he's saying 'MY DADDYYYYYY' every ten seconds or anything.

But it makes sense since Dyne had a bone to pick with him and he just left a town that hated him. Like I said, not melodramatic.

I notice though that you didn't comment on my Vincent choice :monster:

I used to label him as emo before, but I don't find it appropriate anymore. I just didn't like his negative attitude. It had nothing to even do with his guilt over Zack and Aerith's death, really. Just the fact that he abandoned his family while he experienced the disease and gave everyone the cold shoulder.

It irked me. :\

It didn't sit well with the image of Cloud that they painted in FF7.

I agree with this -- AC Cloud was just not FF7 Cloud, and I think Nomura even said they just had him that way because that's "what the fans remembered". He was never emo, he was just quiet and awkward, but he was the leader for a reason. He had some pretty extreme lows but had his friends help him through it to continue on the journey. He didn't give up.

It had nothing to even do with his guilt over Zack and Aerith's death, really. Just the fact that he abandoned his family while he experienced the disease and gave everyone the cold shoulder.

I feel like the disease was just an excuse to get Cloud upset again, so maybe I'm just rationalizing a bad storyline choice, but I felt like a big part of why he left was that he'd seen two loved ones die before him and he didn't want Tifa to experience that.

You know, I never saw it that way before. That's a very interesting perspective. I quite like it, actually. It makes a ton of sense. It's a very refreshing perspective from the whole "Cloud left because he was unhappy" one.

I never understood why he wanted to die alone and not with those who love him. It boggled my mind. Sort of left a bad taste in my mouth, too because I couldn't justify it. I thought he just left because he had given up and thought he had failed everyone. Like I said, a pansy. :awesome:

But I definitely like the way you said it much, much better. Thanks. ^_^

Every character has their hardships and personal struggles. But that doesn't define them as 'emo'.

Red is far from emo. I can't agree there.

I found his story about his dad so tragic and heart warming. He hated him at first; loathed him. Thought that he had abandoned him and his mother. That he was a coward.

And then, he finds out his father was a hero all along; that he died protecting him and everyone else. That he loved him and was an exceptionally brave warrior. Red being distraught about something like that didn't make him emo; it made him more relatable as a character. It added depth to the character we simply assumed to be some experiment for Hojo.

Every time I play through that part, I remember why I like Red so much. So it was always a significant point for me in the storyline when it came to characterization in FF7. Not many other FFs have been able to do that with every character.

Not saying he's emo, but wasn't his 'Case Of' rather depressing? I only read it once, and I'm not 100%, but didn't he need VINCENT of all people to cheer him up?

Also agree that Cloud wasn't emo. A bit of a dick, sure, but not emo.

Good point, Zee, on him not wanting Tifa or the kids to watch him die... and it makes sense, except he still walked out on Denzel who was far worse than him. The whole 'leaving to find a cure' in ACC made me not want to steel-toe his tonberries quite so much.

Seriously though, its not just on Youtube this is more of a response to all the haters Tifa seems to be getting both on Youtube and the CXA forums (Ooh what I've seen on those forums)
Dude... no one cares about what's going on at CxA. You really should stop looking there if it bothers you so much.

Especially since TLS has a rule against bringing debates here from other forums.

regarding the font thing, specify the name of the typeface you want to use under "Font typeface in posts" in "Edit Your Details". It has to be the exact name of the typeface or else it won't work. You can specify multiple typefaces by using commas in between the names of the typefaces; each person's computer will use the first of the listed typefaces that they actually have installed on their computer.

I wasn't insulting them, I was just stating a fact :D

Calling someone whiny, emo, angsty and full of bullshit is pretty insulting IMO.

.why do you think I'm a troll?? Just because I have a different opinion than you??

I thought you were stating facts? Looking at the topic title you seem to be correcting other peoples opinions of Tifa so, don't ask others to just agree to disagree with you.

but you can't deny that most of them are ballfuls of angst and emoness

You know I probably could but that's neither here nor there. Tifa is not the one has to put up with Vincents and Red XIII angst. Red XIII's least appealing behaviour gets dealt with by Vincent, Vincent broods around when he alone (which is often enough), being evasive and distant when the party is in the room is much more Cloud's stick then Vincents.

As for Cloud, I'd remind you it's Cloud that's supporting Tifa more then the other way around in Case of Tifa and in AC the writers confirmed that Tifa's impatience was fueled by her lingering insecurities concerning the feelings Cloud yet shares for Aerith, more then anything else. Seriously, read Reunion Files, that's what the people that made the movie said.

Cloud himself in AC, well he's depressed after he visited the place Aerith died to deliver flowers, he's got a disease that has detrimental effects on his mood as symptoms, he's dying, his son is dying. I can forgive his behaviour, though I'm not happy that "Cloud's just emo like that' is what most people took from that movie.

Why is there no longer a difference between being "emo" and being sad?

^ This. This so fucking much. That's what I want to know.

I don't see Cloud as being emo period, IMO, I mean, I feel he had every right to be. It has been 2 years, but what he went through in FFVII is not so easy to get over. Yeah he got over the hurtles then, but sometimes it can come back and haunt you for awhile, especially when another situation comes up that weighs heavy on you. Cloud's just the kind of guy who's worried he can't protect those dear to him, so he ends up shutting himself off (and everyone else out) when he feels lost and confused, having to deal with something new and dire, like the Stigma. That's just me tho.

EDIT: I wholeheartedly agree with your last post, Shikimaru. I would thank it 1000 times if I could, srsly.

The reason emo and sad/depressed/etc. are now the same is because most people on the internet don't know what the hell Emo even means. Hell, people applying the label to themselves don't know what it means all the time.

Not saying he's emo, but wasn't his 'Case Of' rather depressing? I only read it once, and I'm not 100%, but didn't he need VINCENT of all people to cheer him up?

Depressing != Emo. Emo, classicly defined, is highly expressive about one's emotions (especially one's frustrations) and wearing your heart on your metaphorical sleeve. Recalcitrant depressives may have the same set of emotions as an emo, but wouldn't be, as they aren't expressive.

Also agree that Cloud wasn't emo. A bit of a dick, sure, but not emo.

More of a well intentioned idiot than a dick, I think.

Good point, Zee, on him not wanting Tifa or the kids to watch him die... and it makes sense, except he still walked out on Denzel who was far worse than him. The whole 'leaving to find a cure' in ACC made me not want to steel-toe his tonberries quite so much.

Part of it gets into that Cloud thinks he's just making things worse, that he's being punished and that those around him, those who make him happy, will bear the brunt of it. That's why he stays away, I think. But yeah, him leaving for a cure makes it far more palatable.

Cloud's not even emo in the movie. Yeah, his life sucks and he thinks he's powerless. That's depression. Not emo.

You know who probably would be Emo? Sephiroth. He loves making a show out of everything.
Likewise Kuja. Kuja kinda went Emo at the end. Just emo with high explosives.

I whole heartedly loved the improvement they did to it all in AC/C. It was probably one of the better things SE has ever done since...well, ever.

The improvement that was made to Cloud drew me back into the fandom, actually. Also, it helped me get into CloTi again. AC Cloud is null and void in my mind; they brought back a lot of Cloud's personality traits from FF7 in the Complete version and I quite love the idea that Zee presented regarding the single itch I couldn't scratch with the storyline.

They gave him more depth and reasoning for acting the way he did and it coincided much better with what we got from FF7. I dunno, I guess I really did enjoy ACC and the novellas and everything because it all just added it up together like super glue.

Kind of like the "Complete" word making so much sense, ya? :awesome:

That being said, you have to thank EAG for creating so much discussion, despite it being controversial. A different opinion can be refreshing at times. If she hadn't, I'd have never gotten that perspective out of Zee. :monster:
